  1. Help family!

Andy, the tail-less wonder (aka 'Nilla Bean) has developed a flea problem. We gave him a bath and it seemed to help for a little while, but now they're BAAAAAAAAAAAACK and we're afraid that they will infect Bog and Clark too. I know that Ann suggested some ways to help the problem, but I don't remember. Can anyone help, please?

  2. I recall that Ann recommended food grade diatomaceous earth sprinkled liberally through the house.

  3. Terri.........It is always such a shock to have a flea problem with indoor only kitties. One of the buggers probably hitched a ride inside on your socks, shoes, etc. when you had been the yard. Unfortunately living in Fl, it is a year round problem. The last time it happen to me, I applied Advantage to all the kitties. One dose did the trick. Most of our flooring is tile, so it was easier than having a lot of carpeting, for the fleas to hide and multiply in. I also used a flea comb on them for several weeks, to catch any stragglers. Poor Andy !! :(

  4. Poor Andy-Butt! When XBF's kitty had fleas, we bathed her in flea shampoo once a day for a few days and used the flea comb as well. Applied Revolution to the back of her neck and went nuts with a huge bag of diamomaceous earth. Quite messy, but it sure worked. Best of luck!

  6. Food grade diatomaceous earth, applied liberally to cat, upholstered furniture, carpeting, etc. (Vacuum up after a week or two.)

  7. My 2c:

Advantage has always worked for us, but my cats (for the last five years or so) have always been indoor cats. I understand that Frontline Plus' active ingredient is chemically similar to Advantage, but the product is waterproof.

For the house, there is a product called Precor which can be sprayed on furniture, carpet, etc. which interrupts the lifecyle (egss, larva, etc.) of the fleas. Apply it twice, about two and a half weeks apart. I only had to do it once, about three years ago, and have not had a problem since, other than I have a darn near full can of Precor. The only problem with the Precor is that it ain't cheap; it cost around $30 for a sixteen ounce spray can four years ago. But it works; Texas' year-round climate is very much like Florida's, and we haven't had fleas since.
