  1. Well, her nibbling has finally caught up with her. I know I've mentioned before how Molly likes to chew on things, like fringes, cords on blinds, pretty much anything. I've tried to keep these things out of her reach, but as you all know, you can't keep your eye on your pets all the time.

Anyway, since she hasn't been feeling well, throwing up, etc., and now not eating, I took her to the vet today. (I felt bad that I had waited as long as I did, but I was in the hospital myself having my appendix removed.) Dr. took x-rays and found a mass in her tummy--not a tumor, but a large mass neverthless. And after I told him about her string/cord fetish, he said that this was probably the problem (and she has some kidney stones, too). So, I left my baby tonight, she will have surgery in the morning, and I'll go to see her in the afternnon and see if she can come home. I have to work tomorrow night, so I may wait until Thursday morning to pick her up so I can stay with her when I get her home.

Max is sitting with me right now, kinda wondering where his sister is tonight. He won't have anybody to antagonize for a couple of days. We'd love some good thoughts and good wishes for Molly to come through her surgery okay.

  7. Little Molly, you must not eat those things. Hope all goes well and that she is back home in no time and fully recovers. (((Molly)))

  8. Poor Molly. She needs a homecoming present of bitter apple spray, I think. Will send white light and healing thoughts for a successful surgery and a swift recovery. And I thought Labrador Retrievers were the only hoover-mouths of the pet world!

  9. The Dr. was telling me about things he had extracted from animals, not the least of which was a big blob of "Gorilla Glue", which a dog had lapped up and it had, of course, expanded in his stomach. They thought in the x-ray it was a huge tumor. Doggie was fine afterwards. Dr. also said he'd removed batteries, plastic items, and from one kitty, many feet of the thread her mistress used in her needlepoint.

Bitter apple spray would be fine--if I knew WHAT to spray!! Thanks for everyone's good wishes. Will keep you informed what happens tomorrow.

  13. Spike (cousin Spike across the street) had a similar surgery recently. The vet found a big glob of stuff in his gut. His mommy and daddy picked it apart to discover that it was little pieces of yarn. The knitting supplies are all locked up so all the yarn confused them at first. Then they discovered that Spike was getting his yarn fix by:

    1. Sitting in mama's lap while she knitted and carefully chewing off the little ends of her project, and
    2. Hiding in the back of the coat closet and unraveling the knitted scarf that was hung over a jacket.

One the vet gets the glob out, ask to examine it so you can see exactly what the little rascal is eating. And give her little belly a rub from me; she'll have all the fur shaved off so rub gently.

  15. My Spooky used to try and eat rubber bands. I don't know if it was the texture or what. Never had a problem from them, thankfully

I love your avatar! That is great. And silly Molly, eating all that stuff. MMM, I hope you are having a speedy recovery and my best to Miss Molly.

  19. CTR, my Bobby - who doesn't like anything - LOVES rubberbands!!! I've found out, though, that if I give him the hairband rubber bands , he doesn't swallow them, just the regular ones.

  20. Our Friti once found an old rag rug and managed to eat a twelve inch cord from it. Blocked his intestine, turned it inside out for a portion of it, two weeks in the hospital and surgery gave him an intestinal bypass - after that he was always a skinny cat but he fully recovered and lived to almost 18. We threw out the rug of course!

  21. I feel sorry for Maxie--he heard a noise and jumped up on his kitty condo-no Molly. Then he looked up on the back of the rocking chair where Molly sleeps sometimes--no Molly. He just looked confused. Now he's sitting on the footstool where he usually is at night when I'm watching tv, looking very forlorn.

Don't know about rubbing Molly's shaven tummy when she comes home--I didn't want anybody fooling around with mine when I got home!!!

  22. M&M I am so sorry to hear about Molly. Prayers that she gets through this quickly and learns to not ingest foreign objects! Oh Max wait your sister will be home soon and she will smell funny! You can set an example for her and remind her where the good for you food is. Love to you all.

  23. Poor Max - he's missing his sister! Maybe you should rub HIS belly?

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  24. Dancingcathill-
When I asked the vet if there was anything we could do besides surgery, he said we could try a laxative, but if the "mass" wouldn't pass through the intestine, we'd be in big trouble again. Since I think all of this is twine, string, cords, maybe even dental floss, which wouldn't pass too easily, I opted for the surgery. And Dr. will also take out her kidney stones, too (for the same price). I do worry, though, because she is almost 10 years old-hope she's healthy enough to withstand all this.

  25. GD-Max and I will snuggle in bed together tonight. At least we won't have to worry about Molly-she's in a good place and she'll be good as new pretty soon-I hope.........

    Posted 3 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

  26. Of course she will, MMM! Maxie will probably appreciate some Mommy-time!

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  27. It will be strange when she comes home--she'll have to wear a collar, and she'll have her stitches for about two weeks. When Max came home from the vet she wouldn't have anything to do with him--wonder how he'll react when she comes home with all those vet/antiseptic smells??

    Posted 3 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

  28. prayers for Molly and her mama and Max. Please keep us posted. The smell may be a bit difficult, but she will be home and Max will adjust. Stay strong. Love, Mama Lynn

  29. Thanks Lynn--gosh--Lucky looks a lot like Maxie (but Lucky has about 5 lbs on my guy). Oops, make that 10 lbs.!

Thanks everybody--your good wishes mean a lot.

  30. Just read this thread; poor Molly! One of my cats seems to like rubber bands too, but I don't know which one. I just try to keep them locked away. I hope everything goes well tomorrow and Molly is back home soon.
