My daughters horse still goes the grave of my horse and paws the ground and sniffs the dirt. When I had my horse put down he was there with her I felt he needed to see they had always been together. That was first of july and he still stand by her grave. I have been looking at geting a another horse for a companion for him, maybe a rescue horse.

Do Cats Mourn The Death of Other Cats?
(36 posts)-
For a few weeks before Redford died, Mitzi would go up to him, sniff him, and then walk away and sit down a few feet from him and just stare at him. I think she knew he was dying. When the vet came to our house the day we helped him pass to The Bridge, Mitzi sat in the hallway and watched, but would not come into the room. For a few weeks after, she was very clingy and quiet. Now she is enjoying being an "only cat". She has had a huge personality change-she is very talkative, follows me everywhere, and seems to have come into her own. I think as Redford was always "top cat" she stayed in the background, and now she is the top cat and is loving it. I think she mourned Redford, for sure, but now is enjoying her new status. We originally thought about getting another companion, but now think that she is one of those kitties who just want to be an only cat. I did notice though that she often will stop and stare at the bookcase where we have Redford's ashes. I do believe she still loves him.

Now I am really bawling. I haven't had the experience of one pet dying, etc. But I do know about humans being basket cases losing a pet. Julie I am so sorry for your loss of Jack.

Abbi, that story made me cry---how sad! Animals have more devotion that a lot of humans.
