Curious problem

  1. I have an interesting problem. I did some grocery shopping yesterday, walked home with it, put it all away sat down on the couch and fell asleep. When I woke up a short while later I felt fine, but as soon as I got up and put weight on my foot I got the most excruciating pain in the three middle toes of my foot. It's fine until I put my weight on it.
We've been thinking that I pinched a nerve, the shopping was quite heavy, but after a day of trying to stay off it it's not any better.

Anyone ever had similar trouble before? I can happily press the region while sitting down and can walk around as long as my weight is not on the front of the ball of my foot, but it's also very annoying.

  2. Airy,is your foot swollen anywhere? Any discoloration, does your foot only hurt when you bear weight or when you move your foot a certain way? any temperature changes between the two?

  3. No swelling, discoloration, temperature changes or anything. I can sit here and rotate and bend my toes like normal (and I can bend them further than most) without hurting, it only hurts with weight.

  4. It will have to come off!

The foot, not the weight - although......

  5. I'll agree to the weight :)

  6. The problem may not be in your toes. If you can apply pressure to them without pain but get the pain when putting weight on it, the injury may be elsewhere. For instance, if the nerve bundle serving your foot is getting pinched against your hip bone when you put weight on it, the pain could manifest in your toes.

Same with a bruise in the ball of your foot. It wouldn't show but when you put your weight on it, it could compromise the nerves to your toes. It's doubtful you could apply as much pressure to your foot with your hands as you do when you put your full weight on it.

You might have twisted funny while you were putting away the shopping which could result in a compromised nerve.

It's probably something minor, albeit irritating. Try some Advil or similar anti-inflammatory. Do some stretches. Maybe soak in Epsom salts or just a warm bath.

If it's something pinched or inflamed, it is going to take a little while to heal but if that's what it is, the pain should start lessening soon. If it doesn't start getting better by weekend, you probably should see a doctor.

  7. I would say get to the vet asap - that IS the guidance we all give usually - but I guess maybe you're the wrong species (ok I was going for a giggle but I've probably just been confusing.) Actually I think what CBsMommy said makes a huge amount of sense, you may also want to alternate between warm and cold treatments. Cold reduces inflamation better than warm.

  8. DCH - I was thinking the same thing but I had already made my facetious comment!

  9. Hey! Does that make me the cats mother then? Find a jungle gym or a tree branch to suspend yourself from Airy, but not by your ankles. :-)

  10. Toes all better people. If just faded over the course of a few days and went from pain to twinges then to nothing.
Does anyone know if you visit a specific pharmacy for a prescription do you have to return to the exact pharmacy for the repeats? Can I go to a closer pharmacy of the same brand name or just any pharmacy?

  11. Usually you can call the closer pharmacy and ask them to transfer your prescriptions. If it's within the same company, it can be done immediately. If you are changing pharmacies, it could take a little longer.

You should check some of the bigger names (WalMart, RiteAid, CVS). Some of them were giving gift cards to people who transferred their prescriptions. You might be able to make a few dollars.

  12. If it's the same company you can go to any pharmacy, their computers should be linked. I go to Giant Eagle Grocery Store for one of my prescriptions and I can go to any of the stores to get them refilled. :)
