  2. http://vetmedicine.about.com/od/diseasesconditionsfaqs/tp/TP_catfacts.htm

Scroll down on this link and you will see that the normal heart rate for kitties is 120-140 bpm, much faster than our normal.
Please make sure to get a check up with the vet, if she hasn't had one yet.

  4. One of my cats, Dixie (3 of my cats are called Pixie Trixie and Dixie!) is totally mute and never meows. He opens his mouth and looks as if he is going to, and we call it "miming". the vet told us this was OK and he is healthy.

  7. Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm not sure about the Meouw issue. My kitty Willow, a feral rescue di not meow for the first year and a half that we had him. He now meows a little but still does not have much of a purr.
Is that your baby on your avatar? Beautiful tiny black angel!

  8. yep thats my baby pixie! littledevil she is .. she was really scared when we first brought her home but now her character has come out .. only had her nearly 3 weeks :) your cat is sooo cute :) do you have any more ?

  9. Kitties do have a very fast heart beat, compared to sluggish humans. The next time you go to the vet with her ask him if her heart beat is normal, then hold you hand on her chest and see how fast it is. That way you'll be more comfortable with it.

So far as her meowing goes, some cats just never do. One of my four, Squeaky Shoes, is named that because the most she ever does is open her mouth, look like she's trying to meow, and lets out a tiny high pitched squeak. Her vet says she's fine.

  13. On the catster page, you will see "catetser fun buttons", the second one from the left is for friend invites.
If you let us know the link to your catster page, I'm sure you will receive many invites from TDK.

  14. Hello,

i hope someone can help me, i actually have two separate situations but i think they might be connected. i have two ragdoll cats, one is 3 (male alpha kitten) and the other is 2 (female beta kitty). a few days ago i came home and my female beta kitty had her right eye squeezed shut and was completely lathargic, i took her to the vet and they thought there might have been a trauma to the eye or right above the eye. they checked for scrathces and there was none. they prescribed steriod drops in the eyes for the next few days in hopes that it will help. it almost seems like there is white fuid building up in the lower front inside the eyeball, it is sad to see. That is one issue if anyone has any suggestions.

However, out of nowhere, once we brought the beta female (the sick one) back home the male alpha kitty has completely freaked out! he growls at her almost like he doesnt even know her and hisses in a menacing way like we've never seen him do before. Also, when we scold him he actually growels at us and even swiped at our face!!! My guess is either the alpha cat is trying to protect us from the "sick" cat and is why hes being so mean to it, but i dont understand the alpha male kitty being very upset with us and growling and hissing and swiping....my guess is maybe since we've been spending extra time nurturing the beta female cat he feels like he lost his senior position?

Either way we need to solve this somehow and it is a very tense situation and the alpha male cat is acting irratic! thanks for any tips or any help.

p.s. both cats are fixed and have been living together for two years.

  15. About the eye, please return to the vet to have it checked out ASAP.
About your sick kitty coming home from the vet, likely she smells like "vet office" and many kitties are taken aback by this, it is quite common. However since sick kitty is not well, I would confine her to one room until she is recovered, for now.
Others here, may have other helpful advice, but you may want to start another post asking for help.

  16. Chris, I'm sure some more knowledgeable members will be on soon to help. In the meantime, I'm really sorry to hear about your little girl ragdoll's eye, I think you need to keep in touch with your vet and take her back in again if you're not happy with her progress.

Many members here find that when they bring a cat home from the vet, the other cats growl and hiss at him/her and avoid him/her for a day or two, just because of the unfamiliar vet smells, which they hate. I'll see if I can find one of those threads for you as they have suggestions for improving the situation. Good luck with those beautiful babies.

  17. As for the growling and hissing, when you take her to the vet again (and you should for the eye) take a t-shirt or something that smells like you to rub her with before you bring her back into the house. It should help with the 'vet office' smell that is disturbing the male kitty.

  18. Can't find the thread, unfortunately, but I think one suggestion was wiping vet kitty down with cat wipes. Maybe someone else can remember. But I think Tigerlillie's right, if your male cat is swiping at your female, maybe put her in a different room for now, the last thing she needs is another eye injury from your cross boy's claws.

  19. thank you , i will try that with a shirt when i bring the female back to the vet monday. also, do you think the male cat is being mean to her for the reason of being a sick kitty? as so thinking hes protecting us from her and even contaminating the food?

Posted 3 years ago by ChrisT #

  20. by the way, my vet said the problem with my female kitten eye probably is from a cold or flu that was not totally gone and then could have settled in the eye by a possible trauma to it. they prescribed a eye drop steriod, i think was called presidone or something

  26. Don't worry too much, Chris, you came to exactly the right site for advice about your kitties and we are always pleased to see new people posting. It just makes it easier to keep track if each person needing help for a new problem starts a new thread, otherwise people who have already answered Pixie might not realise there is another query on the thread and we want you to get all the help available!

So you have done the right thing with the new thread and we hope it helps and that you stick around and keep us in touch with your babies' progress!
