  1. When she came home from the vet after her operation, Molly was so much better. She was eating and drinking, though sleeping a lot. I did that, too, when I got home from the hospital. But day before yesterday, I noticed that she wasn't eating. Vet had sent home Science Diet canned food and she ate some at first. Then, even with broth or tuna enhancement, she wouldn't touch it. She was still drinking water, but not eating. So we went back to the vet today, and he thinks it is her liver, as she's showing some jaundice. Her incision has a little bit of infection, and she's losing weight. He said because her food intake had been affected for so long, she wasn't getting nutrients, and it has taken a toll on her liver. He said he'd keep her for a couple of days and give her antibiotics and force feed her. I asked if she could recuperate from this, and he only said "sometimes they do, sometimes they don't".

I feel so bad because I didn't take her to the vet when she first got sick (because of my own illness). I don't know how much difference it would have made, because she had the blockage in her tummy for so long, but I still feel as though if I had taken her in sooner, she wouldn't be so sick.

Please send some prayers our way. Thank you all--you're wonderful.

  8. Prayers for sweet Molly,I had a cat who had this so bad she was jaundiced(she was white). I told the vet I would be willing to do anything and they put a feeding tube in her, they insert it in the side of the neck and into the stomach. I fed her for about 2 weeks before she recovered her appetite then she dislodged the tube and came to me for me to take it out.
I've also given cats with that pureed Hills A/D,it's messy but totally worth it as I've had them pull out much faster,I never let one get as bad as my first cat Minnie(She was at my Moms). The other cat was sick w/ pancreatitis and had been throwing up,it seems to happen very quickly. Please don't beat yourself up,cats throw up all the time(some more than others),you took her in when you realized she was sick.

  14. It sounds like little Molly may have Fatty Liver Syndrome. If so, that can usually be turned around with forced feeding. Although it may have been a little while since she has eaten normally, you said she did eat when she first came home. That's a good sign.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and concentrating on sending white light to your baby. She has lots of good people thinking of her; she has to pull through.

Can't the vet tell by the tests taken just how bad the damage to the liver is? I'm sending you lots of Prayers & healing Light that her body accept the help & treatments being given her & that she has a full recovery.

  18. Prayers for Molly that she pulls thorugh this and returns to health. I had a cat that due to a high fever went off his food and water and started to have liver problems. He spend his days at the vet getting fluids and I force fed him at night and in the morning. The vet also gave him appetite stimulants. He did eventually regain his appetite and health and lived for many many more years. He was my 28-pound Maine Coon. He lost 5 or 6 pounds (mostly muscle) and never regained his former size or brute strength, but he was healthy and happy nonetheless. Keep us posted.

  19. MMM, don't blame yourself!!! Sending prayers for Molly and hugs to you. We all play the blame game when our furry baby is sick. I know I feel that way when it comes to my cat Whiskers. I feel as though I didn't pay enough attention the week before she died. When she started howling for me in the apartment it was the first symptom that she may have gone blind from the kidney failure and was wanting to hear where I was. I waited about 3-4 days before she collapsed and I took her to the vet. I still wish I had paid more attention to Whiskers before she got ill as I might have been able to do what Kykat did for her Maine Coone. I cannot change things now and have to know that she is in a better place.

  25. Just got a call from the vet. He said Molly isn't improving--force feeding has only caused her to start throwing up. Doesn't sound good. But thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your prayers and good wishes. I haven't given up yet.

  28. Jimmie...that's not a good news call at all. But,your so right to not give up hope. Ask the vet if you can come in & spend time with Molly while she's in there. It makes so much of a difference in how stressed our animals are when they have to stay in a strange place for very long. My vet let us visit with Cowboy while he was there (altho Cowboys liver probs. were much more advanced) & he always calmed way down & was very cooperative for them after our visits.
Sending you lots more {{{HUGS}}} & Healing Light for Molly to improve so she can come home.
