  1. I was wondering if kittens go through a teething process like babies? If so when does this happen and how would they be acting? Is it uncomfortable for them?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't know much about cats.

    Thanks!

  2. Yes they do. You will notice it when they start biting and chewing all sorts of things. I'm sure it's a bit uncomfortable for them, like it is when babies are teething.

There are others on Daily Kitten chat who can give you more specifics.

There is no such thing as a stupid question :-)

  3. It's not a stupid question at all and I think it's wonderful that you want to learn all you can about the care and growth of your new fuzzy family member.
This website has some helpfull info.

  4. S&S 54...I can only tell you my kitties began to lose their baby teeth at around 5 months. I was even lucky enuf to find one of the lost teeth. I now keep it safe as a souvenir & a reminder of how teeny tiny my furbaby once was. :)

btw...there is no such thing as a stupid question. Don't ever feel bad about wanting to learn. It only make s you a better person. :)

  5. S&S54, I think everyone covered the yes...I think my kitties started around 4 or 5 months.

And as one of my Air Force supervisors used to say "The only stupid question is the question that goes un-asked."

    Welcome to TDK!!

  6. Thanks everyone! I'm so glad you guys are here to help me and my husband out. We just want to make sure Geoffrey is comfortable in his new home.

Should we take him to vet to make sure everything is coming in okay?

  7. Has he been to the vet yet?? How old is he??

And most important....when can we see pictures???

  10. He's 5 1/2 months old, we just got him last week so we haven't taken him to the vet yet.

How do I put pictures on here?

  11. If you have a look on the Hello thread that's up at the moment, there's some guidance on how to get your avator to show a picture (I can never remember!!) You could also make a Catster page - click on my Avator (that's Button), and you'll see mine for our crew of 4. They're really easy to do!

  12. Yes a catster page...It's like a MySpace for kitties!! You can also click on the picture to the left if you'd like to meet my furry family..

And yes, you should schedule a vet checkup unless he has his shots and is already fixed..

  13. Thanks for the help guys!!

He has all his shots and have been neutered.

  14. That is what I thought, J! He must think that perforations are IN!

Posted 3 years ago by Dee #

  15. LOL..Aren't they?? I sure hope so, cause just about everything I own have those same unique perforations....

  16. I can tell which books I owned during the Titch years - all the corners have teeth marks!

  17. My since departed Juliet, was a big chewer. I was reading The Shining...the paperback had a shiny silver cover...when I came home from work, she had shreaded it with her teeth. And she also shredded my friend's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People. I think it was because she was mad that she had no friends and did not influence any people.

  18. LOL!!! Titch only chewed the corner on whatever book I was reading, don't think he liked not being the centre of attention!

Posted 3 years ago by MadcatwomanintheUK #

  19. hahahahaha...How to win friends and influence people!!! I remember that book and it's possible that Juliet read it and realized that it wasn't all that helpfull.

  28. Hello and welcome to TDK! What a lovely pretty kitty Geoffrey is :). Many years ago when my Sultie (my picture, sadly passed away in October at 18) was a baby, he went off his food for a day. My mum picked him up and gently opened his mouth to check if it was ok, and a baby tooth fell out :). After that he went back to eating normally, I think it's quite rare to manage to see a kitty baby tooth though.

  29. Welcome to the crew. The teething question has been well and truly answered. However, I think we need to emphasize the VET trip a bit more. In addition, to getting a clean bill of health, if he has not been neutered, your boy will need what we like to call a spa visit very soon.
5.5 months in kitty years is almost a man.

  30. Teething story -- real quick, as I am stealing time at work. This morning, while getting ready to leave for work, I left a plastic sack with three cans of pop to put in the fridge at work on my sofa. I went to do something in the kitchen, and when I returned, six-month old Dashiell had teethed a hole in one of the cans. I am 50+ years of age, have lived with cats since I was five, and have never had this happen. I am so proud of my little "monster."
