Okay, please forgive me but I had to post this. We just love it in NZ when someone says nice things about us (we're kind of insecure I guess, lol):

{{{CM}}} We'd love to have you! Come on down!
I have to admit, it is the South Island which has the spectacular scenery, the mountains and fjords. In the North Island we have beautiful beaches and rolling hills. But it's all pretty nice. There's the odd mountain and lake in the North Island too...

The only downfall to visiting NZ or Australia is the plane ride from Ohio...that would be a loooooooooong time traveling.

Tee hee. There was an article from an English paper, The Telegraph, I think, reprinted here the other day about an English journalist who brought his family to live in Nelson for about 18 months. Yep, he agreed, it was paradise all right -- but after 18 months, Paradise got really boring. He yearned for the big city and went right back home again.
It is very nice here, CM, but unless you really love extreme sports, I'm not sure you could call us exciting...!
KK and MS might beg to disagree of course :-)

JCAT, I "recommended" this article on NYT, maybe more people will see it. I looked you up on Wikipedia to see how close to the equator you guys are, not very close, but it still looks like the weather is fairly temperate :) I've always wanted to visit Tahiti, so maybe after visiting there, I could make my way down, seems Tahiti is half way to New Zealand from the West Coast of the States :) Elizabeth

Thank you Cato and Karenopa :) If you do make it down, and I hope you do, remember you have friends here! Cato, stopping off at Tahiti -- or one of the other beautiful Pacific islands, like Samoa or Tonga or Vanuatu or the Cook Islands, and just lying on the beach for a week, eating fresh fish and fruit, and maybe doing a bit of scuba diving, is a really nice way to break the journey.
We are temperate, the further north you go, the more subtropical it is. The east coast, where I am, has hot hot summers and frosty cold winters. The further south you go the snowier it gets in winter but it's still temperate the rest of the year, and can get sizzling in summer inland.

Oh I wish and hope that I can do the Milford Track sometime. I've heard so much about it from friends who have done it.

Sounds like my pace Jcat. We'd have to book a year ahead I believe. We could take KK to piggy back us when we got tired.

That's what younger sisters are for. We won't tell her until after the second day into the walk though. I believe the Sutherland Falls are a sight to behold.

Nah, she wasn't as good at compass reading as I was. She'll stick around.

Actually I think you are right but we wouldn't tell KK that either.
