  1. Does anyone know of a brand of towels that are truly made in the U.S.A.?

I need some new towels and can't find any made here in the States. I realize we live in a global economy and that I can't always buy domestic made goods but prefer to if and when I can and the quality is worth the price. We've so many folks out of jobs (including me) these days that I like to support domestic manufacturing, what little there is left of it.

If you know of any American made brands of towels, then I can easily research to find which stores in my area carry that brand.

    Thanks.

  2. Makes it frustrating doesn't it Marnet. So many US jobs are outsourced. I have no idea if any are even made here anymore.

  4. Thanks Soxmom. Unfortunately, MySimbaTowel is a failed/non-working website either by link or directly typing in the url and the other one there is for imported towels. But I appreciate the help. Just proof of how tough this can be to find!

  5. I just went to a lecture on the failing of our students in the US. They were not getting enough education to compete and jobs had to be out sourced. My first thought was other counties do not keep passing students that can't read to the next level. I never want to see a student fail, but sometimes we fail--adults fail, kids fail. If they can't do the work they need help to learn. Oh the soap box I should never get on. As a teacher I see my peers and myself go to great lengths, but if a student can't read they should not graduate!

  6. Here is one website, but they are very expensive: http://www.tomorrowsworld.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=towels

Pinnacle towels are available on e-bay: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/MK-Linen-Supply__W0QQ_armrsZ1
Listing says they are made in the USA.

  7. Soxmom, I've a friend who is a teacher and a sister-in-law who used to be. Both say two main problems are interfering with our education system. First, most parents simply do not value education enough to make sure the kids turn off the video games, tv, cell phones, etc. and STUDY, nor are they raising kids with the manners, values, and discipline to sit still, shut up, pay attention, learn, and give a hoot about being in school. Secondly, the more the government keeps legislating endless mandates for socially relevent teaching and mandated testing, and endless paperwork filled out documenting every little statistic, the less time there is for real teaching of core basics and building on those.

  9. I agree with them whole heartedly!!! I have complained about having to teach values too. That used to be taught at home--not anymore!

  10. I recall my mom telling how some of the history and social studies they learned in grade school back in the 1920s was incorporated into penmanship drills, like copying "June 14th is our flag's birthday." And by the end of the 8th grade she had already learned how to write a check and balance a check book, research, write and footnote a research paper, and had far more intensive instruction in grammar and math basics than I ever got in the 1960s or most schools appear to teach today.

  11. Thanks for the help and discussion. I'll check back later. Right now I have to go feed four hungry cats and fix a late dinner for myself and then, afterwards, change all the litter trays; my thrilling highlight of the weekend! :-)

  13. Marnet, as a native Carolinian (where towels were made in my youth), your OP intrigued me. I did find one interesting link to an ebay store/sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/18-Piece-Elegant-Ivory-Bath-Towel-Set_W0QQitemZ250358242067QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBath_Towels_Washcloths?hash=item250358242067&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262 , which is "made in the USA," and some commentary that suggests that the top-end Cannon and JC Penney towels are still, in fact, made in the USA. I really don't know any more than that; as a single-again old slob, my knowledge of linens is limited to what sisters/girlfriends/mother give me or tell me to get.

  14. Enjoy the rest of your evening, Marnet. This has been an eye-opening experience for me. I've been looking online and reading about how manufacturer after manufacturer of towels and linens has gone bankrupt.

The JC Penney Towel is made in the USA of imported fabric. The JC Penney Classic is imported. Some of the Chris Madden line at JC Penney is made in the USA.
