They will not go quietly,
the cats who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survive.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a meow at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them....
and always will.

Ohmigodh DCH that is really beautiful. I am not familiar with Linda Barnes. Do you know anything about her. I would love to put this on my website but would not want to without permission. Do you remember where you got this from? Thank you so much for posting. It certainly touches my heart.

This is the site both poems I posted came from:

I don't know Linda Barnes, but it seemed so true and made me think of my Pixi that left two years ago. I know he is playing now with Molly and Sarah, but there is a huge hole in my heart that belongs to him.Posted 3 years ago by DancingCatHill #

That poem is so true. Whenever I go to check the fur babies I look for Tessie. There is an empty spot here--She used to sit on the stool in the kitchen and watch me do whatever I'd be doing there. She talked a lot too. In the morning if I was to long getting up she'd come to see what was going on. And she was always saying feed me, feed me and I would even though she had a dozen saucers of food that she had rejected.

What a nice poem! And true too! Growing up with black cats, I often did a double-take after losing Jinx, Aja, Taz and Smokie when I left something black like a sweater on a chair/couch/bed. With Leela, we decided not to let her know about people food, with the exception of tuna water. So without Shaddo and Jiggs, the ultimate mooches, I still catch myself getting ready to put something down with my usual "hey guys, try this, you might like it". Have to actually clean the stuff off the dish then wash it, sigh.
Oh and between the dreams I've had about my boys, along with Leela picking up some of their more unusual habits (I'm convinced they've visited her in dreams too!), they will not soon be forgotten.
Thanks for posting such a touching poem, DCH.Posted 3 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #
