  6. Oh, i should have found this thread first before I posted on another. How do any of you deal with having to take care or your cats (vets, food, shots, etc) and deal with this recession? We have already taken in two extra cats because their owners were laid off. I am going to read the many posts on this thread for help and info! Thanks!

  7. I did want to offer a money saving tip. Our local grocery has completely baked chickens for $4.99. I know it can be cheaper to bake your own but that is really a good deal and we can even freeze the cooked chicken. It saves time and time is money.

Anyway, from 1 or 2 of those chickens, I can get
    1. one meal of regular chicken, roasted, and add my own sides (baked potato, greens)
    2. One chicken and noodle casserole (made from leftover chicken)
    3. One pot of chicken soup (made from more leftover chicken plus the chicken carcass cooked in a combo of water and chicken broth.

I think that is fairly economical!

  8. Also, for anyone interested, Walmart is offering a complete (with a complete Grade A turkey) Thanksgiving dinner for $20. We are already running out in my area but you can get rain checks. The info is here: Twenty dollar dinner

  9. I know some people are boycotting Walmart but I intend to get $20 gift certificates and donate to those in need. Many people seem to start THanksgiving with an uncooked turkey, potatoes and cranberry sauce (some prefer canned) so I thought the Walmart deal was economical and people will have to decide if they will shop there or not. As for stuffing mix, canned veggies, etc - will donate those to food pantry for those who are hungry. I wouldn't turn up my nose at packaged stuffing mix or canned gravy in tough circumstances. There are so many hungry out there that our food pantry can't keep up.

  10. Also, some places are giving away free turkeys if you donate blood. If you don't want the turkey, you can donate it to a food pantry. More info as I can find it.

  25. I'm disappointed :-( I signed up for a Red Gold tomatoes free tote bag and it hasn't arrived. But the promo emails have, in my inbox. I also haven't received my free Herbal Essences certificate yet. Shoot!

  26. Some freebies can take a long time to arrive...there have been many times when 3-4 months have passed and I finally get a freebie...and had forgotten about even signing up for it. And, sometimes when you sign up for a freebie, all you get is lots of spam. Luckily, that does not happen too often. I bet you get your Herbal Essences coupons soon...everyone has been getting them the past few days. I am waiting for a BOGO free sale at CVS or Walgreens to use the coupon...like the cheapskate that I am...haha!
