I got my cat spayed last monday. She had already been in heat three times prior and neither myself or my cat could endure another cycle (in vain)!
So I took her to the humane society around 8am and picked her up at 4:30. Thing is, ever since she's been back, she's been super attached to me. She's always been a vocal cat, but now she's more vocal than ever. She won't stop kneading on me, she insists on being on my lap or right next to me. In fact, when she's next to me, she needs to touch me somehow, whether it's just her paw or her side. She follows me from room to room and won't stop meowing at me. And she "bathes" (licks) me forever! It's cute, but her sandpaper tongue starts to hurt after a while, haha.
I have her food in the kitchen and she only takes her time to eat when I am in the kitchen myself. When I walk away, she nibbles on it and runs after me.
Before I got her spayed, she would explore the house, run around and pounce on me for play. She loved to cuddle, but loved her space as well. She was more independent than she is now.
She runs in my way and meows til no end when she notices I'm getting ready to leave. When I return she greets til I have to gently put her to my side or down to do what I have to do around the house.
While I think it's super sweet that she's this attached, I am worried she was traumatized by her trip to the vet. After all, I dropped her off at the Humane Society and the Humane Society then transfers all the animals to a vet via van to get spayed/neutered.
I can't stand the thought of my kitty being afraid of being abandoned. Since I've had her, we've moved three times, but she's always been with me and never reacted to the move in such a needy matter. But then again, her trip to the vet was the first time I ever left her in hands of total strangers.
Will she be okay? Is there anything I could do to make her less insecure?
I want my Abigail Rhode to be curious, energetic, unafraid and confident again. Help!
