Wendy – I can only recommend that you take your kitten back to the vet as soon as possible and tell them the enemas are not working. This really is a case where the vet needs to see the kitten again.

I’d highly recommend a second opinion from a second vet. Also, although it is quite rare for kittens to have a condition known as megacolon, it does happen. I know because we had a kitten with it some years ago. There are treatments for megacolon if it turns out your kitten has that.

Again, I’d go get a second opinion from another vet.

Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out. *hugs*

Please take your kitten to the vet, whether returning to the same one or visiting a different vet for a second opinion. (This is not likely to be a problem that will spontaneously resolve without veterinary intervention, and if one delays too long, it can be fatal.)

Wendy, if I were you, I think I would be searching around for another vet. Are there any others in your area you could go to for a second opinion? It’s hard to tell from your posting how hard he’s fighting for your kitten but you do need a vet you can work with and trust.

You might find some ideas on this thread to help: http://www.dailykitten.com/chat/topic/13443#post-322984

I don’t understand the pet shop’s advice, I would stay away from hard food for a cat who was having trouble going. I am wondering if stimulating her little genital area, by soft, gently circular rubbing with a warm, damp cloth, the way you do for orphaned baby kittens, might help at all. I hope things improve for your kitten, good on you for not wanting to give up on her.

I also suggest another vet. I once had a vet tell me my baby Pharyn had Pyometra (a full blown infection of the uterus), that it would cost me $1,000 for surgery, and that if I didn’t do it within a couple weeks she would die. I called the Humane Society and they offered to do it for only $100 (that included the spay). When I picked her up from surgery at the Humane Society they told me she wasn’t infected with anything, she just needed her anals expressed. I have learned that a 2nd opinion is well worth the extra cost of another office visit.

Ty all i took her back last night they gave her another enema she went a bit last night this is starting to take its toll on her she is soooo tiny .i do have a app with a feline specialist Thurs morning might move it up though i like the vet we are going to … I don’t like the fact he is giving me all but one option if she dosen’t go says she is too small for surgery we have a cat clinic here with from what i have read very goog vets that deal with only cats

Good luck today WendyD. Please keep us posted. My first thought was possible megacolon; it’s a condition that’s hard to diagnose but is treatable so the second opinion might be very helpful. Glad you were able to move the appointment up; time is of the essence.

Wendy, I’m glad that they’ve been able to figure out the core problem and begin treatment; those are huge steps in the right direction! She’s in the best possible hands for starting her recovery. Are you able to visit her? Sometimes that can make a big difference for a pet that has to spend several days at the vet’s office. And what treatment does the vet think will be needed, long-term?

I haven’t seen her since Tuesday I am going to ask when I call this morning if I can see her I miss her so much ,if they can get her thyroid level up before we loose her the treatment from what I understand will be for life its kind of a race against time I don’t know …she was fine until 2 weeks ago other than her size she was good they did say she would always be tiny though but I do feel better that someone has done more than just give her enema after enema I am sure that if I had have taken her to the other vet Tues nite for another one it would have killed her so I feel better that way just worried might be to late but she is still eating and thats a good thing
