  1. Hello everyone!

I am new here and have looked for advice elsewhere and haven't found anything helpful...

My little boy kitten is about6 months old and will not let me clip his claws. and the strangest thing is that I clipped his nails every two weeks since he came home with me when he was three months. he does use the scratching post, so that is nice but his claws are still pretty sharp.

I held him in my arms while sitting down and i put a blanket over his eyes so he couldn't see me coming close with the clippers and it was like he knew the clippers were right near him! i had his paw in my hand with his claw extended before i put the blanket over his eyes to minimize the element of surprise. but he still "freaked out" and ran away.

i can't get him to sit still at all! his sister will allow me to clip her nails with no problems. she is considerably smaller than he is by a few pounds so even if she did struggle it would be easier to restrain her. i wish he would take a hint and realize that it doesn't hurt and he'll feel better once i'm done!

any advice is helpful as i don't want to have to pay money to get this accomplished.

    thanks in advance!

  2. Sounds like you need help to get your boy to be still for his clipping. I have 7 kitties. Some let me clip their nails with no trouble and some require two of us, one to hold and one to clip. Each seem to have their own ideas on the subject!

  3. Oh gee, I have great instructions on my website with pictures but I have just disabled it and it may not be back up again. I forgot about all the instructions and information I had on the site.

MK hang in there I will see if I can put something together to send you the information. It is easier to see what I am talking about because it uses clothes pegs which sounds really bizarre but it works beautifully to calm any cat down long enough to clip their nails. They simply roll over like they are in a trance. Don't do anything yet I will see if I can find that info someplace else on the internet for you.

  4. O.K. MS here is the website with the information on clipping nails. Scroll down to "Cat Tips" and you will find the information and pictures there:

  5. I tried your link and it still says disabled :-( I am very curious to see what can be done with clothes pegs!

I'd love if my husband would hold him still while I clip Loki's claws but he is not really a cat person... weird huh?

let me know if the website is up, and i will totally check it out.

    best regards,
    miss kitty

  6. Since the website is still down, try looking at this link and petpntr gave the basic instructions for using the clothes pegs

  7. Thanks AZD. I haven't decided whether I am going to reinstate my website. I'll make up my mind this week I suppose but in the meantime I found another site that has pictures. These aren't my cats like the pictures on my site but it will still give you an idea of what I am talking about. Good luck and let me know if you try it.

Scroll down to point #5 about half way down the page:

  8. Petpntr, there is a site named http://drop.io which will allow you up to two free gigs of online storage (you can pay for more) which can be accessed by anyone if you choose to allow it. I use it for photos that my brothers/sister/kid etc. might want; I just send them the link as opposed to a large email attachment, and they can download the pix that they want. You had so much good stuff on your site that you might want to upload text files of them to drop.io and share that link with those of us who have issues that are addressed by articles on your former website which will be missed very much.

  9. Wow IB I will look that up. I am so ticked off with my webhost. I have been with them since they first opened almost 4 years ago. Last year they decided they would no longer accept payment through internet banking or PayPal. I paid yearly through my bank and refuse to use credit cards online. So now they put me on a monthly programme because I didn't want to pay for a full year again. I don't have a problem paying $20.00 a month but it means I need to pay with a gift card. So the gift cards come in $25.00 and $50.00 denominations. I go to the store purchase a $25.00 gift card and with the exchange on Canadian funds it usually comes to $23 - $24 a month. The problem was that the last couple of months they started adding another fee of $1.20U.S. Just enough to put the amount a few cents in excess of the $25.00 gift card! The first time it happened before Christmas for the sake of 40 cents they just disabled my site. They didn't even let me know. Their Accounting Department says if the full amount owing doesn't go through they can't just credit the $25.00 to my account and let me pay a balance if there is one later on. Everything is computerized like that and I can't even get through to the real accounting department who actually bills the account. It is so frustrating. Thinking at Christmas I would find another host, I copied everything on the site to CD but then gave in because it is just easier to keep status quo. This month I forgot about paying it and they disabled it again only I didn't contact them. They called last week wanting to know what the problem was and I said their accounting is such a hassle I am going to leave. They are trying to figure out a better deal for me but I didn't hear from them yet. I think I am going to pay for another month and then transfer the whole site onto another host.

Sorry I didn't mean to write a book.

In the meantime I will check out drop io and see if I think I can maneuver through the site and if it will serve my purposes. I have pretty much given up thoughts of selling so I don't need that aspect of a site and I don't know enough about Blogging to determine if that is all I need.

Thanks again for all your help. It is greatly appreciated and thank you for your compliment on my site.

  10. Hi it's kittenluva23
You could ckeck the bottem of his paw and see if somthings wrong down there. Does he fuss over every paw that you try and clip? It might just be the one paw! He also might have had a bad excperiance with clippers before that. <3

  12. MK3, Doctors Foster and Smith, (web site is www.drsfostersmith.com) have a Klaw Kontrol Bag (search for that on their website) that might help. The description is: "Restrain cats gently but firmly when trimming nails, applying soft claws nail caps, giving medication, or brushing teeth. Cat paws can be zipped in or left exposed for trimming. With double-stitched zippers, air vents and handles, it doubles as a pet carrier. Washable nylon." Hope this is useful for you.
