  1. Hey everyone, I was able to send out a few emails on Friday and I hope the word got through. As those of you know who have been watching the weather channel, Western Kentucky got hit very hard with snow and ice. We were out of power for 6 1/2 days. There are people around here in rural areas that will be down for WEEKS! No exaggeration. Weather channel broadcasted from Paducah, KY a lot because Jim Cantore came here and got stuck! We got over an inch of ice followed by 4+ inchs of snow. Fortunately for Hubby and I we have a gas fireplace and camping equipment. My work ended up being one of the city's official warming shelters, so hubby and I came over for several hours on Friday to get warm, see people and check email.

My biggest worry was the steaks I had in my extra freezer along with some other high dollar meats. Fortunately a friend got power back early enough and had freezer space so the ribeye's and cajun stuffed chicken made it through the storm. (I had two whole ribeyes that I had had sliced and vacuum sealed) Hubby and I ate a couple of them that we cooked over the camp stove as well as many things that had thawed.

I hope everyone else that was in the path of the storm is doing ok. We got power last night during the Super Bowl so I am really grateful for the power crews working 24/7.

I am going to try to get some pictures on my blog and I will post the link. I missed ALL of you this past week and am glad to be back on-line.

  2. Glad you made it through, KYKat and that you're back! I'm done the power outage-thing after a couple of hurricanes and it's miserable and I was bored out of my mind.
    I like Jim Cantore :)

  5. KK, I have been thinking about you all weekend. I did hear on the news just this morning that the governor is warning that some people may not have power restored for six weeks. I can't even imagine!

I'm so glad to know that you and hubby are safe and sound, and the rib eyes, too! Hopefully your power will be on to stay.

    Stay warm!

  9. I missed you guys!!!!!! I read so many books last week and over the weekend! Since we knew the storm was coming and that it was going to be a big one, I spent Monday night charging up the portable DVD player and the computer and cell phones, gathered every flashlight, oil lamp and camping lantern we had and filled every pitcher with fresh water. So we did get to watch a movie Wednesday night and Thursday night.

  10. We were all worried about you, KK!! I'm sorry that you lost so many of your big trees, though!

  12. Gee KK it was even on the news up here in Canada. I saw them interview a lady who said they were filling their coolers with snow to put food in that was in the fridge. Some people had basements full of water. Not sure what caused that. They said a good portion of Kentucky got hit and it may be weeks before everyone has all their power back.

Stay warm, stay dry and stay with us.

  13. Glad you made it through, KK. I knew we had members in the area and was hoping someone could give us info. I am sorry for those who don't have power back and hope it comes on soon. I am glad you are ok and are able to contact us. Please continue to stay safe and well. God Bless.

  14. I'm glad your power came back on and life can return to near normal for you. I'm sure it is a challenge getting around in that mess!!

  15. I am glad that you are okay, KYKAT! Glad to hear your power is on too. We keep hearing the reports of how hard your area was hit. I was just talking today with one of our Regional Managers who lives in Pittsburgh, PA and if they were going to get the last of the ice storm. She said the weather reports weren't able to pinpoint that.

  16. My power blinked back off this morning for about a minute and I thought my heart would stop. I guess they just took us down long enough to bring another neighborhood back on line. Many of my co-workers are still without power and may be for 6 weeks. One lives an hour from here on a farm and because they are remote they are at the end of the list to get fixed.

It really looks like a bomb went off around here. Most of the big trees got topped and there are giant limbs everywhere. One of my friends had 3 trees land on her house. In Kentucky alone there have been 27 reported deaths. Many of those from carbon monoxide poisioning. I am grateful and thankful that we came out of it as well as we did.

  17. Thanks for thinking of me..we made it thru ok, we were lucky, power was only out for a little over 12 hours for us. But like KY there are places that will not have power for at least another month. We have power crews from Mississippi and Louisiana working with the power company here. We have been cleaning up downed trees and tree limbs.

  19. We've had you in our thoughts and prayers Patti...it sounds like you were as well prepared for this predicament as you could be. Brrrrrrr...imagine those people who didn't have a gas fireplace! The ground hog says it's another 6 weeks of this winter weather.
Chuck so glad you got off light in comparison to others there. Dodging bullets again! =)

  20. On of my co-workers was doing laundry when her power went out. Their house was down to 42 degrees when they finally gave up and headed south to family. When she got back her laundry was frozen in the washing machine.
