I lost my kitten Mylie. She passed away, my sister gave me bella on Christmas. She has had non-stop diarrhea. She is nine weeks now and only weigh's 1.9lbs. She lost a pound since last week. I have taken her to two vets over nine times. I know she is a fighter and so am I. I cannot bare to loose another kitten. Please someone help me and if there are any home remideys you know of. After having her for almost five weeks she is still the same size. The vets just seem to charge me money and never give me a clear answer. Almost four thousand dollars spent

PLEASE get a second opinion. Better yet, if there is a veterinary school near you, often they have specialists that may provide a second opinion or recommend a good vet.

I have been to two vets. The one I saw on friday is finally doing blood work. She eats Science Diet wet kitten food. Along with water and pedialite. I am doing everything in my power and draining my bank accounts. I force the water and pedilite though she does not like to drink it. I do it because five weeks with this she needs all the water and minerals she can get

Oh my goodness, yes, I would definitely change vets. Are the two you have seen both at the same practice? Tigerlilly has great advice, ring a vet school if there's one near you and ask for help, otherwise ring round friends and family until you find a vet they can recommend. If all else fails, look in the phone book under veterinary services.
Has she not been admitted to their clinic and put on a drip for fluids and feeding? Have they done blood tests? Has she been tested for all the usual kitten viruses and serious illnesses? It seems appalling to me that they can have charged you that amount of money but not admitted her and not given you a clear idea of what is going on. Is there good communication with them (it doesn't sound like it)? You need a vet you can trust and work with, and who will explain to you exactly what they're doing, what they're thinking and what they've eliminated as a diagnosis so far.
Your poor little kitten. The most important thing is that she doesn't get dehydrated, which is why I would have thought they should have admitted her. Is she drinking lots of water? Try to keep her fluid intake up. Pedialyte is the best thing to give her, and you can mix a little of it into her food as well. You don't say if she's eating. If not, there is a high-energy paste (nutrical) you can give her a little of if her energy is failing -- also a little corn syrup smeared on her mouth (nothing she could choke on) is good for energy. Other people who are more knowledgeable will come on and give you better advice so please keep checking back.
But yes, find another vet. And get them to show you how to inject fluids into your baby, to keep her fluids up. Four thousand dollars and no blood work seems to me unconscionable!

She's nine weeks, Petpntr. AB89, I don't know what else to suggest. Keep her warm and comfortable -- if she's so sick, she may not be able to regulate her body temp very well. A heat pad, or a hot water bottle (not too hot) covered in a towel in a box or basket, with room for her to crawl to the side if she gets too hot might be an idea. Try to keep her comfortable. Warm her food gently in the microwave, it can help to make it more appetising. Sometimes fish (as it's smelly) or a real chicken-based baby food can tempt their appetite, if she's not eating enough. And as much love, reassurance, gentle cuddling and talking to her softly as possible may help to keep her morale up. But you're probably already doing all that. Poor little mite. I'm so sorry. I hope this new vet finds out what's wrong as quickly as possible. Keep in close contact with the vet by phone, if possible. {{{Hugs}}} to you and your baby, and please keep us in touch.

Í am not familiar with gardenia dieses and mail nurture. Have no idea what you are referring to so I don't think I'll be much help. Can you give us any more details? Its pretty difficult to help without more information because diarrhea and weight loss can be caused by many things. If you have receipts or a health record from the vet maybe you could copy what it says so some of the experts here can try to figure out what they have done so far to diagnose her.

Ouch. Four grand is a lot of money. That's an average over $444 for each of those 9 visits.
I've scoured the internet with Google for "gardenia diseases", and the only references I find are those that relate to the Gardenia plant. Nothing on kitten diseases with that name.

Kathyanne...according to the poster, the kitten was a Christmas present at 4 weeks old. And a previous kitten died. I can't imagine a kitten under two months old would still be alive with 5 weeks of "non-stop diarrhea" and having lost a third of her body weight in one week.

Morning. I know I'm still quite new here on the TDK forum and that I may be unfairly judging this OP and several others recently, but I'm inclined to agree your instincts of distrust are quite reasonable to have.
I can't help wondering if some kid finding the link to the daily kitten pictures and then to the forum read an earlier legitimate post about a small kitten with digestive and stool problems and started a craze of faking increasingly more terrible/elaborate tales of such, as many of you have openly suspected and suggested. I just find it hard to believe there is such a sudden spate of the same problem with this many kittens of newly posting people.
Obviously, I myself am so new here on the forum that I don't know the entire history of recent fake posts but I have noticed many comments that lead me to believe you all know for a fact this has happened.
When I occasionally watch the Kitten Cam 2, I've noticed some real trolls -- likely young kids not properly supervised on the internet -- posting rude comments about animal abuse on the comments there. Perhaps there is some way the word is making the rounds of kids to come over here and yank everyone's chain with an even more pathetic tale of woe about a dying kitten who can't poop? Or it even might be just one person posting under a series of aliases. Easy enough to create lots of email addresses to use for signing up on the board as different people and then spend time driving the forum crazy with such postings. Just a thought.
Hope I'm not out of line sticking my two cents in nor that I am unjustly accusing anyone of fake posts.

AB89, glad to hear you've made the switch to a different vet. Comprehensive lab bloodwork and feces smears, at minimum, are indicated; your new vet should be all over this, trying to figure out what's wrong. If the kitty can't keep enough fluids in her, she should be hospitalized for nutrition.
If she's well enough to remain at home, I'd recommend adding some plain, boiled white rice to the wet food diet she's getting (maybe 1 Tbsp per feeding). It can have the effect of slowing down the digestion a bit, and absorbing some of the nasties in the gut.
Please work closely with your vet on this, and don't hesitate to hospitalize your kitten if needed. Weight loss at this age is a clear symptom of illness. Your kitten may have a mal-absorption problem, or may not be producing enough of the right substances needed to digest food properly. Good luck.

I think some of you forgot about the TA understanding we decided on. I included it in my first post. Marmet brings up an interesting point about the young kids watching the kitty cam. One on there last night said she was 10 years old and it was around 1:00 a.m. not sure what time that would be in California but it sure seemed late for a 10 year old to be up and on the computer.

Well thanks. But I do have rather the bad habit of speaking first and thinking later all too often.
If it is true this person has a kitten with problems, I do hope the kitty gets the care needed with good outcome. It just seemed that the stories of woe w/ all these kits w/ such probs were getting more incredible w/ each new one. Makes it hard, without actually meeting the people involved, to sort out the real ones from the occasional troll yanking folks' chains.
But then when I read my posts about Tigger's old age health issues and Mandi's IBS, UTI, and litter tray issues, I can honestly say my arrival on this forum may have read over the top and false. So I'll try being more patient and less judgmental of others.

We have no real way of knowing whether a "cry for help" is genuine or a troll. I for one would far rather reach out and answer any and every such thread - so what if it's a troll? If they are, they'll get bored and not post again. No skin off my nose. In a few days I'll have forgotten them.
I would far rather do this, than wrongly identify someone in genuine need of help. I do feel that we can be too quick to judge on this site, and that may give the impression of some impenetrable "clique" to new posters.
And let's remember that this is an international site, and that most countries are now very cosmopolitan. Bad spelling / incorrect language are not necessarily signs of trollage. English may well not be that person's first language.
Tolerance guys. And keep it fluffy :-)

I am not a "troll" or a "liar". I am a nineteen yr old student about to attend CSU next year. I do not appreciate this rude behavior. Thank you to the real people for the real advice and help. My first kitten Mylie, was killed by an owl. I live in the country. The first vet basically was just scamming me for my money it was meant to say Giardia. And it is malnourishment was another thing. Lil bella is in the Douglas County emergency vets office tonight because when i got home from work she was stiff and barely breathing... I even had to have my sister drive my truck because I had her wrapped in a towel and kept rocking her to keep her coherent. Once there the techs rushed her back. She in a incubator and with an oxygen line going threw. Also they started fluids. They found old blood in her stool. So they figured out she has ulcers in her lower GI track. That is fixable. The CSU blood work came back with negative for leukemia and Kitty Aids. They are changing her meds from clavomax to Metronidaz and Enrofloxacin. Also they are running tests for FIP, and Tritichomonas PCR and culture. She will most likely going to be there for 24-72 hrs. I hope ya'll are gonna stop calling me names because i was really looking for help and advice. Also i found ya'll on google. It says to keep it clean and nice on here so please do that. Seriously, if i was a kid I would have better things to do in my life then talk to people online about Cat's. SO a few spelling error's turns ya'll into mean name calling narcissistic people. Thankyou.
