Need good thoughts for Alice kitty

(14 posts)
  1. Well, usually Alice is the healthy one of my four but now she's being a bit of a sick kitty. She's been losing weight, although I thought because I'd managed to limit her hogging Tigger's food w/ meds in it, and neither I nor the vet were worried because she was pudgy and needed to shed a couple of pounds.

Well, she's really been off her feed today and been busy throwing up a lot. As it has all been liquid, I assume it's a nasty hairball she needs to get rid of one end or the other. So I gave her a good dose of hairball remedy laxative. Darn it, I gave her too much and now she has had a really nasty liquid stool that's more mucus than anything else. And shortly afterwards threw up again.

Poor baby acts miserable, won't eat, but is still drinking water. I cleaned her nasty backside and will call the vet first thing in the morning. I'm wondering if she managed to ingest something she shouldn't like a stray rubber band (although I'm pretty vigilant about keeping such dangers away from cats) or an insect that got in across some of the bug poison sprayed outside the house. sigh.... Not sure I'll sleep much tonight keeping an eye and ear on her.

And there she was happily skating at the Gasparilla party yesterday. :-) Guess with four cats one of them will just about always find a way to keep me on my toes.

  5. Thank you all. Gotta admit, I'm really surprised she is not well, as she has always been the one who has been utterly healthy and doesn't even hack up furballs at the rate the others do.

Funny thing is, she lost a ton of weight when all four were boarded at the vet for a week back in September and has continued to lose weight since then. I'd assumed she didn't eat much while there because she was "in jail" and because I quit letting her have Tigger's leftovers. But for the past 3 weeks I've let her have Tig's leftovers again in hopes of putting a touch of weight back on her. It's always a juggling act with food when there are four cats, two with special dietary needs, as those of you with multi-cat households well know.

Anyway, thanks for the support. After I get ahold of the vet in the morning and see what happens from there, I'll post a follow-up sometime tomorrow or tomorrow evening.

  7. Prayers for you and Alice Marnet! I hope it is a fluke and she will see the vet and get it sorted quickly. I'll stay with the postive thought that we will hear good news tomorrow. Please try and get some sleep tonight.

  11. Oh poor Alice. Marnet if she is still throwing up through the night you might want to give her a little chicken broth if you have it. Even a teaspoon. It's true, it helps the tummy even a kitties tummy. Let us know as soon as you can.
I am sending you and Alice positive vibes and good wishes.

  12. Ah, hadn't thought of broth. I'd assume that might have too much salt in it. But I can offer her a little and see if she wants it. Thanks.

  13. yes and if you feel it is too salty you could water it down a little.
