Uhm, Alice just threw up a massive amount of green colored clear liquid after drinking some water but refusing all food or broth.
Isn't green in the vomit an indication of bile being brought up?
That's what I've always thought, Marnet. How is she now after that?

Ok, just called the 24 hr emergency animal clinic....they said to remove all food and water for 4 to 6 hours, call my regular vet in the morning -- which I was going to do anyway -- and if Alice shows any decline or additional distress overnight to call them back and bring her in to the cat ER.
I can't believe this. She is always the healthy one!
I have no indoor plants anymore just because the cats eat them. I'm wondering if some of the ice melt pellets from the drive and sidewalk got tracked inside on my shoes and she licked some up or off her paws. The ER said that can cause gastric distress.
Alice seems okay other than obviously dragging from tummy trouble. Think I'll just stay awake and keep an eye on her. I can always sleep tomorrow after she's been to the vet.
Sending White Light to Alice, and hugs to her mommy. Hope she feels better in the morning. Her weight loss would alarm me too. Maybe liver problems of some kind?

Marnet here is a site which might help answer some of your questions. I did a search on for explanations on green bile from cats and a number of sites came up showing inflammatory bowel problems. This isn't one of those but it does have quite a bit of information on it.

If I find anything more which I think could help you I will email you.
Yeah, I'm wondering if the rapid weight loss from not eating much back in Sept when boarded for 8 days might have started a problem with her liver and I just haven't really clued in until now. I can't believe I've overlooked picking up on this sooner enough to haul her in for a check. Well, I certainly will in the morning!
Marnet - sending lots of healing white light for Alice. Don't feel guilty. {hugs}

Thanks. I'm working on calming down. Hysterics never helps any situation. I apologize for being a drama queen. Anyway, she is resting on the couch and just gave me a what is upsetting you look, bless her kitty heart.
I'm going to go curl up with her and be right there with her so I can know if she starts throwing up again.
Later. Thanks again.
Ow wow, just had a sudden thought I'll have to run past the vet. I started using clumping litter in several of the litter trays back about the time she started losing weight. I did it as a means of re-housebreaking Mandi, thinking she might prefer clumping to regular litter. As it is, Mandi seems more selective about having a tray upstairs in the hall bathroom than what type of litter. Now I'm wondering if Alice, who's been using the clumping litter mostly, has been ingesting a bunch of it from between her little toes and has the stomach problems from that which is more typical to kittens.
Hi, Marnet, sorry to hear this about little Alice. I think the emergency clinic told you to remove all food and water because if wee Alice does have a gastro-intestinal bug, easiest way to get rid of it is to starve the bug by not giving her anything for a few hours. If she keeps on vomiting though, she is at more risk of dehydration so you would want to watch that, and give them another ring. Poor little girl, I hope it's nothing serious. {{{Hugs}}} to Alice and her mum!
Poor baby, hope that Alice feels better soon {{{hugs to you both}}}

UPDATE: Just spoke w/ vet office. They're squeezing Alice in for an appointment early this afternoon.
Overnight I did what the animal ER clinic told me over the phone and picked up the food and water for 6 hours and have now allowed her access again to see how she does. Poor baby isn't interested in food but is very thirsty. She also obviously still feels rotten but hasn't gone back to throwing up, at least not yet. It's going to be a long 5 hours until the vet sees her.
I've been praying all night asking God to heal my kitty and let her be okay. She was Dad's special kitty and I couldn't bear to have anything happen to her.
Prayers for our sweet Alice! Please let us know after she has been seen, Marnet.

Marnet, I am wondering if you do any sewing in your house. I had a cat once who swallowed a sewing needle and thread and showed the same symptoms because her colon was pierced. Thankfully the vet was able to fix those problems and that was 8 years ago and she is still thriving, I just keep better track of sewing supplies. Which part of St. Louis do you live in? My husband was raised there and when we first married we lived in South City.

No, I don't do any sewing. I've been wracking my brain trying to think of anything she can have gotten into. I'm really wondering about the clumping litter and if there is a connection to that.
I live in South County, in the Oakville area. What part of MO do you live in now?
Poplar Bluff, still dealing with last week's ice storm.
