  1. Anyway, I'm going to keep giving Alice lots of gentle love w/o too much handling and try to wait patiently until time to take her to the vet. "Lord I need patience, please, and I want it RIGHT NOW."

  2. We need to have a new fence installed because of trees coming down on it. Right now it is a pain to take the dogs out because of no fence. I have huge piles of debris in my front yard waiting for FEMA to come by and pick up. I have been through tornadoes that have left less destruction in their wake than this ice storm. There are several communities down here that will be another week or two before they get power restored. Over 6000 utility poles were snapped like match sticks and are on the ground. I had 3 huge dead trees removed from my back yard this past summer and now boy am I glad I had that done because they probably would have hit the house.

  4. Best wishes for baby Alice. My Meow Meow was very sick a few months back with bilious vomiting , he also stopped eating. He recovered after being treated for constipation. He has had two terrible episodes of this, and completely recovered both times. It did give me a terrible scare.
So happy that the vet will seeher today. Praying that it is nothing serious.

  5. Oh SM, you have my sympathy. That's rough. We got off with just a light glazing of freezing rain and sleet covered by snow up here in St. Louis but no damage.

    We did endure almost a week of no power after an ice storm a couple of years ago, after having had no power for almost two weeks earlier in the summer after a terrible wind storm. I can't imagine dealing w/ no power for two to three weeks in this kind of cold. {{{hugs}}}

  6. Thank you TL.

  7. Me either, luckily our power lines are underground and we only lost power for about 15 minutes. We did lose internet and telephone for 24 hours but I know people who work with my husband who did not have power for a week. The schools here were closed for a week due to the storm and several in the bootheel in towns without power have announced that they were closed until further notice.

I too am praying for Alice and that the vet can figure out quickly what is causing her problem. Have you noticed if she is using the litter box since the vomiting? I know the vet will be asking you that question. When my Tigger had the problem with the needle it took a couple of days in intensive care before the vet found it.

  8. The only time she's been to the tray I know of in the past 24 hours for more than peeing was to have first a small regular stool and then later a small amount of totally liquid stool that was more mucus than anything. That was along about the time she was throwing up the worst.

I thought at first she just has a big hairball so I gave her hairball rememdy laxative for that. I think I must have given too much and that may have created the diarrhea. But she has had no other stools since then, about 13 or 14 hours ago, nor has she eaten.

I do know she has had absolutely nasty breath in recent weeks but I've thought it because she badly needs her teeth cleaned. Now I'm wondering if there is more to it than that, given the weight loss over the past 5 months.

  9. Will be waiting anxiously for when you get back from the vet. Good vibes for Alice coming your way.

  10. Has this vet seen her about the weight loss? If not make sure to mention it.

Posted 3 years ago by Stubbys Momma in MO #

  11. No, haven't been in about weight loss previously because we wanted her to lose some and until just a few days ago when I realized she is getting too thin I hadn't worried because I knew she'd get a complete going over next week prior to the teeth cleaning. But I will mention that the weight loss started noticeably the week she was kept there being boarded, along with the other 3 cats, when I was out of town in early Sept. and that it has continued since. Like I finally thought back to connect in my mind during the night is that is about the same time I began using clumping litter in a couple of the litter trays. Alice seems to prefer using the clumping litter and always seems to track more of it out on her paws than the other cats ever do. So I'm quite concerned she may have been ingesting clumping litter when grooming her feet and now has a blockage from litter turned to intestinal concrete. I actually need to change the trays today in a little bit and am going to put ALL of them back to regular litter just in case.

  12. Next question have any of the other cats had weight loss? If they have make sure to mention that also. We have FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) in our house and some of the symptoms are weight loss, foul smelling breathe, and vomiting. I truly pray that is not what you are dealing with. I have to run some errands but will check back later to see how your visit with the vet went.

  13. Only other cat with weight loss is Tigger but the vet is sure that is from his very old age. My cats are all strictly indoor cats and I'm careful to wash my hands after handling anyone else's cats elsewhere but of course it is always possible to bring home some contamination without realizing it.

Posted 3 years ago by Marnet #

  14. Oh Lord, just looked up info on FIP. It sounds exactly like ALL her symptoms. I just pray it is something else.

  15. >>>>{{{{Alice and Marnet}}}}<<<< Light and Hugs to you both for a good outcome!

Posted 3 years ago by DancingCatHill #

  16. Marnet don't think about FIP right now. When I was trying to search last night there were a number of things that came up which could be attributed to the signs Alice is showing. You will make yourself sick if you think of them. There will be time enough for that if it turns out to be something serious. In the meantime don't upset yourself any more than you are by thinking the worse. I have a feeling it doesn't have anything to do with the litter and more to do with a stomach bug. Let us know as soon as you get back home.

  17. Thank you. I'll try to quit thinking the worst and just concentrate on prayers and loving my little girl gently. I'll check back in later in the day to let you know what the vet says. For now, I think I need to just get off the computer and quit obsessing over this if I can.

Thanks again everyone. I'll update y'all later in the day/evening.

  18. So any news on the vet visit?

Posted 3 years ago by Stubbys Momma in MO #

  19. Quick update: Alice is diabetic. It's early, not severe, and treatable.

I've got to run again to another personal appointment this evening. I'll post details later.

Thanks for all the support. And thanks for the prayers for Alice. It wasn't something fatal like an obstructed bowel, cancer, or FIP. It's diabetes, which isn't a happy outcome but is manageable and she can still live a long life.

    Later folks.
