  1. Cut backs in my company will affect the customer! Now, tell me....how can this be good?

  2. lol, Kilroy. Sorry to hear about the scary news, but I'm enjoying the imagery of freaked-out Wall Street Journal reporters trying (and failing) to do research. It's a tough time to be in newspapers, which is why I'm getting out.

  3. I would LOVE to go to Japan, Joan...all that seafood and soba noodles and sake and the milk-tea Haagen-Dazs...that alone could get me there. Oh, and I would like to visit for non-food reasons, too...ha!

Posted 3 years ago by Dee #

  4. *tapping third eye* non-food, non-food... oh, you mean you want to see the kitties that live in Japan! Oh, and I suppose the architecture and culture would be nice to see too...

  5. Morning all! Well I braved the traffic mess here on Bayshore, and finished my shopping for the fresh stuff I need until Monday! We are now hunkered down for the big invasion tomorrow! Son & girl friend are arriving tonite, fraternity bros. are coming down on a bus tomorrow! All the street vendors are busy bees today, setting up their tents & stuff.... I can assure you by 8am tomorrow, this entire area will smell like one big hotdog!!!

Bye the way Dee - we will be on our front porch grilling brats & beer.... we are one block south exactly of the east end of Gorrie elementary school... you'll see two dark blue houses with white trim.... if you're going to the parade and can make your way to that area, just come on over, I'd love to meet you and give you a big TDK hug!!!

One of those mornings with the kids and chores. Still lots to do but don't want to..lol.
Kilroy, that stinks about the WSJ..wow, they will learn. Thank goodness that's not you.

  7. Jroc, AV is having brats and beer - drool!
AV, my first experience with brats was in Wisconsin. Hubby and I were at a car show and tried them. It was morning, and we weren't sure what to put on them, so we just followed what the people in front of us did. Can't remember what it was, but now most every family bbq has brats on the menu! I like 'em with cheese. Oh and a beer too!

  10. Hi CM!

Believe it or not, I have some good news. My boss just stopped by my desk in the newsroom and told me I got a raise :) I had noticed that my last few paychecks were slightly higher, but I didn't know if it was end-of-the-year accounting weirdness or what. But no, I got an actual raise, independent of my review, which will happen later this month when I'll probably get another increase (I always have).

We're not talking a huge amount of money here (it's about 1%), but hey, I'll take it :)

  11. Thanks so much for the offer, AV! It sounds like a big blowout at your place! And you have ringside seats for the festivities...sounds like lots of fun.

Joan...I swear, I think about food first when traveling and everything else later. I love watching Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations on the Travel Channel. (Plus I have a crush on him.)But when he starts deviating away from the topic of food, I yell, "Get back to the food!"

Posted 3 years ago by Dee #

  12. I don't get the Travel Channel since our cable company's latest "upgrade" :(
However, we do get the food network and love to watch "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". There are so many good places to eat in this great nation of ours. *drooling on keyboard*

Posted 3 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  13. I like watching that, too! I think Guy has the coolest job...eating his way through the country. I love good diner food...very comforting.

  14. AV, I am jumping on the next plane stat! Brats and beer..yummmmmmmmm!!! Kilroy we are all in scary times. Glad to hear you got a raise even it is a small one. Every little bit helps.

Had a very nice dinner with Rubia last night and spent around four hours talking and having dinner. We went to a place called The Melting Pot which is a fondue place and what did we have....drum roll please...cheese fondue. It was swiss cheese version with emmenthaler and gruyere cheese, white wine, lemon, a little garlic, a little nutmeg and kirschwasser (aka cherry water). It was delicious! We had bread, vegies and apples to dip it with. We shared the fondue and each had a nice green salad. We decided to pass on the chocolate fondue.

I am at work now sipping a Starbucks mocha in hopes of keeping awake. Boss mentioned yesterday that she was going to be leaving around 1pm and suggested I do the same. I said that was a very nice idea and would take her up on it. I so did not want to get up this morning.

  15. Hi everyone at the TDK cafe....getting a very late start this morning.....think I will just have to stick with juice and coffee as it will be lunchtime soon.

Posted 3 years ago by katthays #

  16. ... I'm actually making assorted brats...some just regular, some chipolte pepper, sun-dried tomatoe and apple smoked .....

as toppings have the traditional things --- sauerkraut, chopped pickles, assorted mustards, chopped jalopenas, and of course cheese!

My sides are: the crunchy coleslaw, chipolte pasta salad, baked beans, assorted chips..... and of course - BEER!!!!!

SMM - I love the Melting Pot restautants - we have them here in Tampa!!! I love the cheese ones, my kids like the chocolates ones! yummmmmm

  17. This chocolate cola cake sounds so easy and looks delicious! And you don't have to haul out the mixer.

  18. I have made that, and it is easy and good!..... I'm working on a receipe (one I'm making up) for a chocolate and fig cake.... I love figs and I think they combine well with dark chocolate..... once I've tested it, I'll post it (if it' good!)

I actually dream food.... I keep a pencil & paper by my bed because a lot of night's I'll have an idea and wake up and write it down..... cause if I don't.... well, let's just say I suffer from etch-a-sketch brain.... shake my head, and everything gets erased! LOL

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  19. AV...Have you tried Rabitos? The dark chocolate and fig candy from Spain? It is fantastic!!

  20. No I haven't, but I definitely will..... I also think I will use some honey it it too... that also marries well with dark chocolate and figs..... and thanks to MerD, I will probably pair it with a nice Prescco!!

  21. Good morning, Everyone! Yay - Friday = no gym tomorrow!!!

I see that you all were veerrryyy busy last night on the Why Oh Why thread :-)

SMM, isn't Rubia adorable? She had Mr. WWM and me in hysterics when we met in London. And Mr. WWM loves her hair!

Today my project is continuing to try and get my notebooks in order where I put recipes that I have clipped or printed out. They are a mess and I can never find anything so I decided that it was time!

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  22. WWM, I haven't met Mr. Rubia as he was in training and then out with some people he knows. It was nice as I got to spend time with Rubia. She is a gem of a person so it was such a nice treat.

AV, traditional bratwurst with lots of sauerkraut, spicy mustard and a side of red cabbage and coleslaw and a pint of your good german beer (Marsen or maybe a Heineken). Mmmmmm! I am hungry now. There is actually a decent german restaurant in my area. I might just have to make a visit there soon.

Check out this website for all things German: http://www.travelsthroughgermany.com/website2/beer.htm

  23. Yep, pretty much those flavors will be available.... I am making the coleslaw from my cabbage side inside of the hot red cabbage because it will be sitting out all day, and that coleslaw (with no mayo!) is best at room temp. I like the hot ones, and then put sauerkraut, spicy mustard, and chopped pickles on mine - I like those kind of garlic pickles that come in the jar as spears, and I chop them up.....

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  24. SMM, we didn't meet Mr. Rubia, either. She traveled into London alone the day that we all met.

I am so sad for our sweet friend, JF. I wish that I could think of something to do. I have wracked my pea brain and just come up with nothing other than a few words. :-(

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  25. I just checked in and all the talk about German food is making me hungry and wanting some Schnitzle with red cabbage and Spaetzel

    Posted 3 years ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  26. Where is CM??? She hasn't been here all day today :-(

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  27. She posted once on this thread about 6 hours ago and then disappeared; sounded like she was super busy.

    Yoo hoo, CM....

Posted 3 years ago by Kilroy #

  28. Oh, I missed seeing that, Kilroy! At least we know that she's up and about!

Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  29. You all are making me hungry!

Bobby was a sweetie and let me sleep all night. I really needed it after yesterday's wakeup call at 5:45. I slept til NINE!!!! I haven't done that in months. Met a friend for coffee at Panera at ten and then had to be at work at one. I'm glad we're closing at 8 tonight.

They're interviewing a new girl on Monday who hopefully will work out so I can be done working this much. I told EBL yesterday that I can do one more week of coming in early, but after that I've got the tournament and won't be able to.

    It's been a long week!

Posted 3 years ago by GreatDane #

  30. Going in that early is awful, GD. Hopefully Bobby will take pity on you and will settle down with his blankie and sleep all night!
