As you all know, I lost my Molly about 3 weeks ago to liver failure. Max and I are doing well, though we really miss her. I thought right away about getting another kitty, but then I decided that when it was time, somehow one would be there for me. Today, a co-worker told me about a friend of hers who has moved out of town and decided not to return. She had left her adult black/white female kitty with her mother, thinking she would come back, or at the very least, come back and get the kitty. Now the friend has decided she doesn't want the kitty, nor does her mother. I told my co-worker I'd like to at least meet this kitty, so she said she'd work it out. What do you think? Maybe this is supposed to be?

"...but then I decided that when it was time, somehow one would be there for me." Guess what? You were right! Kismet my dear! I suggest you go for it!

My thought was the same as you, GD, let Maxie meet the new kitty. I don't even know the sweet little one's name!! Tina said she is an adult female, black and white, good with kids, other dogs and cats, is neutered, declawed (I know, I know--but Max is, too) and has had all her shots. I am looking foward to a meeting! But Max will have his say, too.

"a kitty will find me"...there are many ways that kitties find us; sometimes they show up on our property, sometimes they give us their paw at a shelter, sometimes it's "a look", other times a person tells us just at that very right moment that a kitty needs a home! Would have to agree with the above, this kitty found you!

MMM that's what I was thinking when I lost Bijou. Problem was nothing showed up for me so I went looking. As you know I picked Amelia up last week. I think it was meant to be. I had envisioned a kitten but when I saw what a terrible life Amelia had I knew I had to help her. I didn't think anyone else would. Somehow you will just know. I would plan on a visit and see how the cat reacts to you and how you react to the cat. You will know when you see her. Good luck. I think it is really admirable that you are considering a cat other than a cute little kitten. Kittens will always have an easy time finding a home. The adult cats won't.

I don't think a "one time meeting" will get it. Go for it MMM.
BTW: so sorry for the loss of Molly.

I just popped in to lurk, but I couldn't resist posting here ~ MMM, this sounds like it is all good ~ both of them are declawed, and it's a he and she "thing" (no 'sexual' tension) ~ once they get to "know" each other there shouldn't be competition for territory; just give them enough of a chance to 'meet and greet', maybe several days, and then enjoy the love!

Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure if I was ready, but if this kitty needs me and we hit it off, she'll have a furrever home with Max and me. I get all tingly thinking about it.
Might be a really good thing, too, because Max is becoming a little impish!
He has taken to emptying the waste paper baskets of tissues during the night (I hear him throwing them around), knocking things off tables, walking all over me and the computer. And if he comes to bed, he jumps up on the dresser then "dive bombs" me --quite a jolt in the middle of the night. I know it's just attention he wants, but I'm here most of the day!! Hopefully a new friend might keep him interested.Posted 3 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

Awww, MMM sounds like Max is bored maybe.

MMM, I hope you're able to meet the kitty. It sure sounds like Max could use a playmate, even with the inevitable adjustment period.

Sounds like the tuxie has found you, or Molly sent her to you (there is always that possibility) and/or Max as a companion.
Gotta love when they are looking for attention, even if its getting after them for doing or getting into things they know they shouldn't....thats my Kitty, he is such a 'boy' and mischievous as can be :D

Just talked to Tina-she has left messages for her friend to call her and set up a meeting. The friend works mornings, so perhaps I'll hear something this afternoon. Tina said we could probably go to her house on Sunday--can't wait.
AZDEB--what is it with the boys?? I've had two females, both of whom were sweet little ladies. Max is my first male and I adore him-so different from the girls. You guys are probably right--his michief is probably because he's bored and looking for attention.

lol, I know Kitty is bored because if I get after him (and he knows I will) his danged tail starts a twitching like crazy....and if I pick his hefty stocky body up, he just melts in for the hug!! Just like a little boy who gets into trouble just because he gets more attention that way.

Awww MMM...that's how Cricket "found" me. It was right after I lost Bastian that Cricket was born and needed a home. So we waited till she was weaned and the rest is history!!! I think you have a new kitty :) I think Max is bored too and needs a new playmate.

Tina just called--things have changed a bit, well, quite a bit!! Turns out "she" kitty is a "he", and his name is Cooter (we might have to change that if he comes to live with us). He's 9 years old, and a large cat due to the fact that he will eat anything he can get his teeth on. He will have to be fed differently from Max, because Max has his dry food out for whenever he wants to nibble.
I'm not too sure about this, but I'm still going to go out to see him on Sunday. Will keep you informed.

Maybe he's just (large-boned). MMM,I'm glad your being open-minded about the changes & still going to see 'Cooter'. I think it's a great name tho. I'm a bit partial since my best friend that recently moved had a cat named Cooter. Can't wait to hear details of your visit.

MMM, see how it feels this weekend and if it feels right, you need to change his name to something that starts with an M! So sad that someone would walk away after 9 years. When Pooh rescued Oliver he and Tigger (boy kitty) got along like they were littermates. It was so sad that Tigger succumed to diabetes complications just a few weeks later, but Oliver has stepped up to the plate to be the little man of the house. I can't wait to hear on Monday.

MMM - having had many cats over the years both male and female, I have found males (neutered that is) to be much more accomodating and friendly to other cats..... Buc & Winston were both males, and life long friends.... Milo , male was a lover of whomever would give him attention.... I truly believe this might be the one for you and Max, I hope you give him a chance..... as far as names, anything that "sounds" like his name, he'll likely respond to you.... patience and love will pretty win anyone over... I'm praying for you, Max and "#3".... hoping it works well.... keep us posted on Sunday!
