We ran out of the yummy Meow Mix yesterday and poor Bobby was beside himself because I didn't get a chance to go get more dry food. I gave him wet and a bunch of treats, but the poor guy kept wandering to his dry food bowl looking for food.
I just went to Petco and got the dry food TL recommended (Wellness). Milo was hungry and ate. Bobby is hungry and seriously upset about the food. He won't even try it! TL, just a warning - I think you're on Bobby's bad list!

When Bosley came to me, he had been eating Meow Mix. All I can say is that he'd use the kitty box (in the other room), and it would wake me from a deep sleep. Since we changed to Cat Chow, that hasn't been an issue. I guess he has a 'sensitive tummy' because I also learned the hard way to not feed him canned food. ;)

Oh no, Bobby.... How can I make it up to you? Maybe I can try to make it up to you on our trip to England.
*adds MeowMix to packing list*
BTW GD, like any food change, I had to mix old food and new food for a while until mine approved. I did try to tell them that it was a healthier kind, but that did not work until I did the gradual mixing.Posted 3 years ago by Tigerlilly #

Hmmmmm, it was an emergency grocery store run that got me the Meow Mix in the first place.... Now I'm not sure what to do. Since the switch he's had no howling at night at all. I've researched Nutro online and found some really bad reviews and stories so now I don't want to go back on it. It's the only food Bobby has ever had (other than Meow Mix, now). Little man is VERY picky. He was also VERY hungry and if he's not eating it now, I doubt he will in the future.
Any other recommendations for dry food? I want some good healthy stuff.

I feed mine Purina Cat Chow and sometimes Friskies (right now they are eating Friskies). I tried all the expensive (read: vet recommended) stuff and neither one would eat it and when they DID eat it, they both wound up with upset tummies. I figure as long as the vet keeps saying they're healthy there's no reason to switch back to the expensive stuff that they don't like.

GD, it's amazing how "they" communicate with us their likes and dislikes..... I fed my first two cats (Buc & Winston) for 16 yrs only meow mix... they loved it, and both lived long healthy, happy lives.... then I got Cuddles... she started out on that, but had a sensitive stomach, so switched to Iams, and eventually to perscription i/d from the vet. Abby, started out on i/d because that's what Cuddles ate, but when I brought her up to NC and it was just her, I found she really loved the fancy feast seafood flavor...... after numerous discussions with the vet, and reading much on line, I've found that protein should be the #1 ingredient in dry food. Since both my girls won't touch wet food (and I've tried it all) with a ten foot pole, I try and get them to eat the dry food with the highest % of protein that I can find, and that they will eat (it's a guessing game sometimes).... currently, Cuddles is still eating the vet's i/d because of her stomach, and Abby's food is 34% protein, which is one of the higher ones, many have only 30% or 32%.... that being said, read the lables on the side of the package (like you would on a food lable) and see if you can get Bobby to eat one of the higher protein foods..... I don't know what Meow mix has in it as far as protein, but if it's at least 34%, then, it's one of the best on the "grocery" market, and probably fine....... I'm not sure if this is helpful, or a bunch of rambling, but that's my story anyway!

I guess Milo will have to finish the bag (it was $13 for less than 3 lbs. so he'd better finish it!). I'm going to hope Bobby will change his mind, but I'm fairly sure he won't.
I want to get good food because Bobby's already had a kidney problem and the pheno is bound to take a toll on his liver so I really want something healthy for him. I'm certain Mi won't care what I bring home as he'll eat anything. -
I fed my first cat, Whiskers mostly Friskie's Dry food and fancy feast wet food. I think she might have had Meow Mix at one time. Amazingly enough, she never weighed more than 10 lbs and lived to almost 17 years of age. I feed Sylvester and Mia light Science Diet dry food (but it is expensive) and a mix of Science Diet, ProPlan and one other type of wet food. Sylvester is very finicky and Mia is now starting to become a little finicky of her wet food. I give them what I give them and if they do not eat it, they fill up on the dry food. I don't give them more than a half a cup of dry food each twice a day at the most.
Bobby don't be mad just ask your Mama to mix in the Meow Mix with the new food. What is is it 2/3rds Meow Mix to 1/3rd new food for one week and then 1/3rd Meow Mix and 2/3rd new food and slowly decrease the amount of Meow Mix or how ever others suggest. Sounds like the Meow Mix is like eating Fruit Loops cereal and then trying to switch to Cheerios.

Bobby and Redford are alike-Redford will eat ONLY dry (Newman's Own) and turn his nose up at anything else. Mitzi will eat anything-that girl loves her food!

Bobby loves his frequent visits to the dry food bowl. He only eats a tiny bit at a time, but he'll go over and over again for his little snacks! That's another reason I won't stick with Meow Mix - he needs a weight management type food.
Karin, I may try that, but I'm pretty sure he's not going to go for it. He's done this a lot in the past with new food and once he's decided he doesn't want to eat something, he's never changed his mind. He's so finicky he refused to eat his usual tuna wet food when they changed the label on the can. They swore it was the exact same stuff, but I doubt it - he sniffed and walked away. I tried over several days with the same result. (Milo couldn't have cared less) The wet food he eats comes in several flavors and he'll only eat the tuna/oceanfish one. Little dummy!

Bobby stop being fussy and eat your dinner young man!
My cats will only eat the Iams wet food--no other wet food will do. I only feed wet food 2-3 times a week. Teaser is very finnicky. Deuter however likes everything. When I feed the dogs can, normal Saturday breakfast, Deuter is trying to climb in the can of dog food. Neither of mine will eat tuna. Do you think Bob has sensetive tummy issues?

My horde tend to like Kit and Kabodle but I have been mixing can with it lately

SM, I discovered once I switched to Meow Mix that he stopped crying (and keeping me awake) at night. I then read up on Nutro and discovered that it's been giving a lot of both cats and dogs stomach trouble, so I figured that's what Bobby's problem was. He doesn't generally have a sensitive stomach, but I guess the Nutro has been upsetting it. He's been throwing up about once, maybe twice a week also.
Since I switched over a week ago, he no longer cries and he hasn't thrown up.I want to switch their wet food, too, as that's Nutro as well.

I feed my guys Science Diet Light Hairball Control. They like it just fine as long as I put a little Friskies Ocean Fish on top of it! They get very upset if we run out of the Friskies and act like I'm trying to poison it with that "healthy" stuff!

GD, when you find a food that you think will be right for Bobby, try this:
I'm sure you already know about mixing new and old food together so that the change is gradual. What I found to work really well is to powder some of the cat's first choice (use a food processor, a mortar and pestle, or just put it in a baggie and smash it with a hammer). Sprinkle the powder over the mixed kibble. Even after you have switched over completely to the new kibble, take another week to slowly decrease the amount of pulverized kibble.
With Cheetah, I ended up spritzing the new kibble lightly with water before I sprinkled the powdered kibble on it. It took a little longer to switch him over, but he never just put up his nose and walked away.

I got NO SLEEP!!!!! :(
Bobby is still mad! I was gone yesterday from about 1:30 to about 8:30 and when I got home, neither of them had touched the dry food. This is unusual as they usually eat the majority of the dry food while I'm gone. Not even Mi is eating the stuff now :(
Bobby actually got hungry enough during the night to eat 3 or 4 pieces of the stuff, gave up and started howling for food! Arrrrrgh - and so it went ALL NIGHT! There was howling, poking me in the face, stepping around on me - and more howling.
I did not feel like getting up when the alarm went off at 6:30.Guess what my boys are getting for Valentine's Day?

With all the recent stories about tainted food, maybe Bobby and Milo are being picky for a reason. I wonder if there might have been peanut product in the dry food?
