I just wondered if anyone else liked the idea of a TDK book club? From our discussions it seems like a lot of us like to read. I know that there are probably a lot of good books that I don't read just because I kinda glance at and them pass by. Not for sure how the books are chosen but I think WWM is in a book club so maybe she could give some suggestions. I noticed Barnes and Nobles has suggestions on its website. We could set aside a certain amount of time to read it and then start a thread on that day to discuss it. This is just a thought and if anyone else might be interested then we could figure out all the details. Oh well, let me know what you think?

That sounds like fun. I might not read every book suggested and therefore not participate in discussions of any book I skip but as I like to read, I could see giving an online TDK book club a try. I'm apt to get exposed to some good books I might not otherwise think to read.

I love those too alicia! You should also check out Jill Churchill's Jane Jeffry mysteries...they all have names which are "take-offs" from something else...Farewll to Yarns, War and Peas, Grime and Punishment, A Groom with a View, etc. They are fairly short books and are not "heavy" if you know what I mean. Try and read them in order if you can!

I like the idea. I used to read at least one book a week but I have gotten away from the habit of reading when I go to bed now. It may give me the push I need to get back into it. I would have depend on someone else to figure out how you come up with a particular book or type of book since I have never been in a book club either. Are there particular authors we choose, or class/genre of book? I have no idea.

Here are some ideas on how to form the TDK Book Club!
Step 1
Members - TDK Group
Find a group of people that you're comfortable with, not necessarily people you agree with on every issue, but people you want to be around
Diversity is key. It helps keep the discussion going.Step 2
Finding books.
Contact a library in your area or local bookstores to see what the top popular books are on the reading lists. See if any of the books are of interest, and either check them out or purchase them.Step 3
Choosing books:
Simply take turns. Go alphabetically, by birthdays, or by whatever you decide. Whoever's turn it is selects the next book to be read.
Assign leaders for each book that the club decides to read. Let everyone have a chance to lead for those who would like to do so.
One place I read they voted by email. Book titles were submitted and then members voted in reply to the email.Step 4
Meeting Date
Many book clubs set once-a-month meeting times — enough time to read the book, usually, and frequent enough to keep the connection going.
NOTE: We can determine what works best for us since we will be discussing it online!Step 5
Benefits to Discussing Online
You can pose a question today and people will be able to interact with it days on end. You can participate in a book club 24 hours a day at your own convenience.Posted 2 years ago by ILoveMyCats #

I belong to a book group here that I adore. But I am always open to another. In my book group we read a book each month and then we come together to discuss it. We have read books that, on my own, I would never have chosen. Our sort of unwritten rule is that we don't read "fluff" but rather read books that will ignite discussion. For March we are reading the Confessions of Max Tivioli which CW recommended.

Petpntr...I think "Leader" is basically the one whose book was chosen to read and if that person wanted to be the one to start the discussion once we have finshed reading the book. (if they feel comfortable in doing that).

Awesome!! I have always wanted to do this but where I live they don't have book clubs! Would you mind to help me keep this bumped for a couple of days so everyone would have a chance to see it. Maybe we could have all the details in order so we could start by March 1st. (2 weeks)

Petpntr..I guess I didn't see the post..sorry! I decided on the recipe and needed a few things from the store so I would have all ingredients. I made a list out and hubby was going by the store on his way home from work. He came home with "pork chops" because he didn't want to take the time to look for the seasonings I needed. We put them on the grill. So the pork loin is on hold until I go to the store...lol!

I'm up for a book club! Count me in please :D I love to read and will read pretty much anything, including 'fluff' but I do prefer things witha bit more meat. Having said that, I'm a HUGE fan of the Discworld series, which isn't 'A class' literature by anyone's measure, and Dorothy Koomson always makes me cry, I do love her books.

I used to be an avid reader, but my time is more limited right now. I'm thinking about getting an ebook reader that would be easier to carry around and read, so that might spark my interest in a book club. I'm pretty much a leisure reader of mysteries, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying other genres.
(I, too, love the cat mystery books: The Cat Who...series, Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown, Shirley Murphy's cat series, etc.) I might try the book club, but I probably wouldn't be able to participate until after tax season.Posted 2 years ago by LadyKat of IA #

I'm in, but I may not be able to read everything suggested. If I can join in as and when I'm definitely up for it.

Good Morning! I'm glad so many are interested! I don't see a problem if someone can't or doesn't want to read every book. We all have priorities in our life and it is completely understandable. Hopefully, we will have enough people to have a discussion and choose a new book!!! Remember, audio books would be great for those with long commutes. Our local library has audio books to check out for free which helps since they are so expensive to buy! Somthing to keep in mind they come in abridged and unabridged. The unabridged is the full version of the book.
I'm so excited...I think this will be lots of fun!!!Posted 2 years ago by ILoveMyCats #

If you mark the thread with TDK book club and name of book, it will help those of us who aren't on so often. The book club idea is good even for those that don't want to participate if they would like some thoughts about a particular book they might want to read later.
