  2. Guess what? I bought it but do you think I have read it!!! Noooooo!!!!

  3. I think it would be purrfect if we started the TDK book club off with a book about a cat.

  4. It is a good book. Instinct reccommended it awhile ago so I went and got it. Even my hubby read this one. I am reading Dinesh D'Souza's What's So Great About Christianity. He is coming to our church next weekend. I look forward to meeting him. I probably read at least one book a week. I look forward to this because I think it will get me into other genres.

  5. It's not available in paperback but the hardback is only $12. Here's a link and there are reader reviews here, too.

  6. I'm off to Home Depot with Mr. WWM. Back in a while!

  7. I have seen "Dewey" at our library.

Posted 2 years ago by krazikat #

  8. That sure sounds like my kind of book. I vote for Dewey too. I just hope I can get it up here.

  9. If we send you a copy, is the tax expensive Petpntr?

Posted 2 years ago by krazikat #

  10. I would vote for Dewey since it is one I wanted to read anyway...

Could someone give me an idea of a book that is too "fluffy". I know that things like romance novels would be out but what about Nicholas Sparks books?

Posted 2 years ago by Alicia #

  11. Thanks so much for considering that KK. The tax isn't so expensive it is the shipping which is expensive and the time factor. I will check it out and let you know though. Again thanks KK.

  12. "Dewey" sounds great, but I have also read both "the DaVinchi Code" and "Angles & Demonds" and love them both!!
... My next question would be.... are we going to give say 2 weeks for everyone to read the whole book, or break it up into a few chapters a week, and then discuss say chpts. 1-4 the first week, (speculation is so much fun - (and we have to stay on the honor system for no one to cheat and read ahead!) or are we going to read the whole book, after a certain amount of time and discuss it as a whole? I've done book clubs both ways, and there are pros and cons to each......
... being on line, and not face to face, we might keep interest better if we make it a weekly basis.... just a thought!

  13. Ummm, because I already belong to a book group, it would truthfully be easier for me to read the entire book and then discuss it. I'm afraid that if we break it up into chapters that I will get my books confused!

And, depending on the size of the book, we might need more than 2 weeks to read it, especially if we are in other groups and are reading for those, too.

Alicia, my book group has read The Notebook by Nicolas Sparks. Beautiful book. And there was discussion. But we read James Patterson's Suzanne's Letters to Nicholas and there was absolutely nothing to discuss.

I personally don't like to read what my mother-in-law always called "bodice rippers". You know, the mass market ones with the pirate and half naked woman on the front?

Last month we read a fluff book called My Heart May be Broken but My Hair Still Looks Good. It was AWFUL!!! The reason that we picked it was because it was set in our part of West Texas. Actually, I voted against it. There wasn't one thing to talk about regarding the book.

So, the short answer is - if you feel like you'd want to talk about a book with someone else, then chances are it would be a good choice. If you read it and think "thank goodness I'm finished" and throw it out, then no.

Romance novels aren't out just because they are romance. We read Ahab's Wife and I adored that book.

  14. I can hardly wait for ILMC to post in the new forum our first book...so I can run down and see if they have it before I try and order from Amazon.

Posted 2 years ago by Alicia #

  15. WWM, even the title of that book is terrible!

Petpntr, are you in Totonto? Shall I run a copy of the current book over to Detroit and meet you in Windsor? :)

I've been meaning to read Dewey too, so I guess I would vote for that as well.

  16. I hope Dewey is selected. I recently bought it for myself and haven't started it yet. (Still slogging through James Michener's "Hawaii!")

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  17. Gosh, NNGM, it was written by some woman in Dallas who probably has big, blonde hair. I honestly didn't want to read it but I was outvoted and we are the kind of group where we try very hard to let everyone pick something. But it totally sucked! I think that some of my brain cells actually died in the time that it took me to read it. Either that or they just walked off the job!

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  18. Wow, KW - Michener is never an easy read. Although (not surprisingly), I loved Texas!

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  19. Gee NNGM what a great thought that is. I think I will pass for now though. At least until the weather is a little more condusive to driving. I am in Toronto but it is a long drive to Detroit. Thanks for the offer though.

Posted 2 years ago by petpntr #

  20. Come to think of it, the gas to drive to Detroit and back would probably be more expensive than shipping! Doesn't Amazon deliver to Canada? Or is it just really expensive? I should see how much our international UPS rates are at work.

Posted 2 years ago by NNGM #

  21. NNGM I really appreciate your thoughtfulness. Don't waste time on this just yet. I will find out tomorrow if I can get the book here. Even if Dewey isn't chosen as our first book club selection I want to read it anyway.

Posted 2 years ago by petpntr #

  22. Cool book clubs are great. I used to attend a bookclub but cause I have so much reading with uni and all I couldn't keep up with it so I quit. I'll probably pop in time to time - see what your thoughts are on books.

  23. ***bump*** for those who might have missed it over the weekend!!!
**Notice** New Forum...TDK Book Club...Announcing new selection!!
Hope everyone will join in the fun!!!

  24. Is the title there yet? I didn't see it :-(

Posted 2 years ago by WillowandWindismom #

  25. I don't have much time for books these days but will try to keep up with this...
any reason why this thread is not under the book club tag?? I looks as though this is going to be very popular but from the front page you can't tell...
Oh wait it looks like this thread was started before the category was listed...nevermind!!!

    Posted 2 years ago by 2bpurring #

  26. This thread lead to the tag being created. ILMC asked KM to create a new tag once it was decided that there was enough interest.

Posted 2 years ago by SoxsMom #

  27. I vote for Dewey also! When do we find out?

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  28. AB go and check out the message in the new category TDK Book Club. You will see there that ILMC will try to have a list today. Since she has set this whole concept up so quickly I will be surprised if she can manage to put together a list so fast but that's what she is attempting. I sure couldn't manage that.

We won't start the actual reading until March 1 so I think as long as we get the list sometime this week everyone will have enough time to get the books.

You need to email your selection to ILMC, not just post it on TDK. She gives her email address in her post.
