Yes, it is Clair. Hmm - I'm not sure who could play her. Have you seen the series, The Tudors? I could see the actress that played Anne Boleyn playing Claire, I think. Jamie has to have red hair so that sort of limits it. Although, there is always hair color!

Molly, the Outlander series is classified as fiction. I don't think that it's even under historical fiction. It involves time travel..... and very steamy relationships!

Sound like good reads.

Oh, 2P - you should rent The Tudors. It is an awesome series! We ended up buying seasons one and two because we like it so much. Sadly we don't get Showtime or HBO - I think that it is on Showtime. They will start showing season three on TV next month so it will be ages before it will be available on DVD :-(

I second the recommendation of the Brother Cadfael mysteries by Ellis Peters. Characters that you'll fall in love with over the course of the series and a final book that will (almost) break your heart. In a good way. I promise.
When a friend & I went to England to celebrate her finishing grad school, we had 3 places we had to go: London, because of Sherlock Holmes (that reminds me - read the Holmes mysteries, they're wonderful!), Oxford because of its connections with several mystery series we've loved (especially the Inspector Morse books by Colin Dexter, which were made into a series of TV shows that are almost as good as the books), and Shrewsbury because of Brother Cadfael.
Oh dear, don't get me started about books :) I would also recommend the Peter Wimsey mysteries by Dorothy Sayers (set in England after the First World War, Peter's the younger son of a duke and thoroughly charming).

If any of the Brits (or US PBS watchers) remember the show May to December. The Lawyer's son is a tall good looking redhead named Jaime. (Paul Venables is the actor) He is who I always picture when I read the Outlander books.

My best reading ever came from Jean Auel who wrote Clan of The Cave Bear and the series beyond that, Earth's Children. Ayla (main character)Rocks! A story of an orphaned girl taken in by a tribe who teach her to become a mighty female hunter. Being a WOMAN of course she develops and discovers many improvements in technique and tools for hunting and adapting to many situations. As she travels she becomes beloved by many foreign tribes which also leads to true love as well. Horse lovers will love this too as it includes her beloved horse who eventually bears a beautiful colt.Really cool stories. =) I'm also proud to say that Jean Auel is an Oregon resident. =D

I know the show you speak of. So I know of the Jaime of which you speak. My parents loved the show.

Whimpers, it's been so long since the last Auel book, am impatient for the next one! And it's "The Ghatti's Tale" for DancingCatHill. Book one: Finders Seekers. Loved that series! Am sometimes surprised when Molly doesn't speak to me like the Ghattis do! And as for Jamie! Sighs "oh my, be still my heart" Absolutely cannot think of any current actor who could be him, they just don't make MAN actors anymore. They seem to be all boys. Am currently re reading Dorothy Dunnett's 6 part series, The Lymond Chronicles. Has anyone ever read that? It's mid 1500's Scotland centered. Tudor times, the hero spends time protecting Mary Queen of Scotland as a young child. First book is "Game of Kings" WWM, it strikes me that this is a series you might enjoy.

Thanks, PJ! I've not heard of that series but have made a note to go and look for Game of Kings. I adore historical fiction.
Well, I am on page 77 and totally in love with Dewey.

Isn't Dewey great? Has anyone read "All Pets Go to Heaven?" by Sylvia Brown? borrowed it from a co-worker. She knew I would enjoy it since I am an animal lover and had a ten round fight with another co-worker who absolutely insists pets aren't worthy of going to heaven when they die. (Neither is my co-worker with comments like that!)

Molly, I have an old, old book called All Cats Go to Heaven. It is really a collection of short stories. I'm sure that it has long been out of print.

Mel Gibson. Looks good in a kilt, and can pull off a Colonial look too.

Mel Gibson does look good in a kilt! But he is too old, and not big enough, to play Jamie. It will take a special man!

I read most anything except romance. Right now I am in the middle of three book. "Sail" by James Patterson, "Corner Of His Eye" by Dean Koontz, and always the one I read over and over is "Tuesdays With Morrie" by Mitch Albom.
I usually have at least 3 or for going at the same time, reading is my relaxation and escape.

I just saw this thread, books are my special love....I'm like Mollycat posted above, a "read-a-holic" - I'll read anything. I love Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove, Terms of Endearment are two), Lee Smith (A southern woman writer), Ann Rivers Siddons, James Patterson, too many to mention. I usually find an author and then read whatever they have by them at the library. I'd usually rather read than watch TV.

I am re-reading a book, Chasing Francis: A Pilgrim's Tale, by Ian M. Cron. It is about a young man, a pastor of an American mega-church who is in spiritual free-fall and goes on a pilgrimage to Assisi. While on the pilgrimage, he examines St Francis' life and times, and his world, once again, is turned inside out.
Please read it. It is a small gem of wisdom literature, and it is brilliant.
However, it should come with a warning: "May change your life."

That sounds wonderful, Emma. I will recommend it to my book group here. We are always on the hunt for great books that will generate discussion.
Last month my group read Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. It is sad in that the event was true, but a wonderful book. My idea of a great book is one that you can't stop thinking about when you have finished reading it.

That's how the book Chasing Francis affected me. I started reading more about Francis of Assisi, and that caused the Wolf of Gubbio to become a figure at the Bridge. And now I am collecting stuff for a book with the working title of "The Bridge, the Meadow, and the Tree."
