  1. This may be graphic for some. I apologize ahead of time. He was vomiting earlier today. Nothing I was worried about. Shortly after that he went to the litter box and had loose bowels at the end. It seems like tonight after dinner he got sick again. There were what looked liked white pieces of plastic in the debris. They disinegrated, so they were not plastic, but pieces of white things. There is no white of anything in any of his food. Lady seems to be fine, he is very lethargic and sleeping. Can you give me any idea what this might be. I can't afford a vet visit right now but will if need be. If any of you out there have had this experience, I would appreciate any input. Thank you. Mama Lynn

  2. I have no idea, Lynn. Could they be worms?

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  3. Did they look like small pieces of rice? If so those are worms,I've been given cephex(not sure of name) by the vet,I don't know if there's something over the counter or not, hopefully some other people will answer tonight.
    Hope that helps.

  4. Could he have eaten paper or plastic? Or maybe little bits of fat? If it's something he ate, it seems to be passing.

Keep a close eye on him so that he doesn't get dehydrated.

  5. No KW, I don't think so. Just little piece of what looked like plastic, for lack of a better description. I saw the dark of the food he ate with this white stuff. I don't know what it could be.

  6. He is hyperthyroid. Fat deposits could be a factor, CBM. He is drinking water and peeing like a racehorse, although that is a factor with his disease. Is it possible for him to vomit fat up?

  7. Definetly not worms. There is nothing he got into. I have seen this before in his getting sick, but never paid close attention til today with everything else going on with him. Both of my babies have been sneezing and getting over colds, I guess. He is so thin and I am sure his hyperthyroid is getting the best of him. I think my boy may not be long for this world.

  8. Does he have access to anything like moth balls?

Posted 2 years ago by Kitten Whisperer #

  9. no way, won't even have them in my house, can't stand the smell.

  10. Glad that is not an issue. Does Lucky go outside at all? The only things I can think of would be something he ate that he shouldn't have or something like worms. I hope Anncetera finds this thread and gives you her thoughts on this subject.

  11. Lynn, I have no advice to offer, but I'm so sorry that Lucky is ill. How are you and Kay doing?

  12. ((((Lynn)))) I don't know what it could be but you have my prayers.

  13. It might be time to take him to the vet. If his meds need to be changed, you'll be happy you did it, even if it does strain the budget. If he's telling you that he's ready for the Bridge, you'll be able to help him pass with the least amount of distress. His Catster page says he's only 13, it may just be a simple change in his medication is all he needs.

  14. Thanks CBM, I appeciate you hanging with me. Thanks CTR, all prayers welcome. Thanks as well Catwoman, we are ok.

  15. Thanks KW, yes they go out on our porch in the summer, they've not been out for months. I hope to hear from Ann too. Just sent an email to my vet, should hear from her in the morning. Thank you all. Will check back later.

  16. Lynn, how awful, poor Lucky. Could they be bits of polystyrene beads/peanuts at all? I know my Libby chews them to bits if I don't get to her first. But if you have seen this when he's got sick before, then I don't know what to suggest. It couldn't be bits of vegetation he's eaten to make himself vomit?

    I'm glad you've asked your vet. {{{Lynn and Lucky}}}

  17. Thanks JCat but this doesn't apply either. Nothing different has happened in the household. I am as stumped as all of you. Hugs back to you and hope you are well. Thanks for the input. Much appreciated.

  18. Oh dear Lynn this is upsetting. Is there any way someone could have dropped a pill that Mr. Lucky injested? What about plant food or do you have real plants or even silk plants that he could have eaten. My sister used to have silk flowers with leaves and her cat used to eat them. It took a while to figure out that the reasons he did is because the flowers (made in the Orient) were put together with something called fish paste. They smelled like food to her cat so her cat ate them. You might want to go around on your knees so you are closer to the floor and see if there are any cords, an old crust (sorry, no reflection on your housekeeping but I am thinking of every thing possible) any bulbs from plants which haven't bloomed, onions, look in your kitchen for things which could have fallen when you were cooking and didn't notice.

That's all I can think of for now. I do hope you figure out what it is. In the meantime if you can get him to eat a little cooked rice in a little chicken soup or broth it will help settle his stomach. Also if you can get him to eat a spoon of yoghurt, cottage cheese or mashed potatoes it will help with the diarrhea.

  19. Thanks, Petpntr, no nothing in the house that you speak of. I will try to your suggestions with the rice and broth. Thanks so much for your suggestions. Much appreciated.

  21. Let us know how he gets through the night, Lynn. I hope most of whatever this was has now passed out of his system so he starts to feel better. Sweet dreams to you and Kay.

  22. Oh, gosh Lynn - I truly have no idea. But I just want you to know that your Lucky will be in my prayers. Please let us know how he is doing.

  23. Lynn, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner; was away from the computer all day yesterday. Definitely call your vet; the hyperthyroid condition could be the cause of this problem, or could be complicating something else, making diagnosis difficult (at best). If you have any fecal sample available of what Lucky passed, that will definitely help the vet. (Scoop it out of the litter box, if you can definitely ID the litter as something Lucky passed, not Lady.) In the meantime, keep a close eye on his eating, drinking, elimination, and energy levels.

Please let us know how he's doing today.
