miso, now 5 months, adorable, affectionate, hyperactive, has been obsessed with food since coming to us as a rescued 7 week old, but in the past 2 weeks, her interest in food has diminished significantly. Today she had to be persuaded to eat about a 3rd of her normal intake. She is as active, alert and playful as ever, but seems more interested in licking the jelly off the nuggets of meat and then using the dry bit of meat as a toy, blatting them all round the kitchen. She has shown more interest in her dry food, but just nothing like as much as before. I would estimate she has lost some weight in the past few days. I am very worried, but hoping it's just a passing phase, or a dip in her growth spurt, which has been huge up to now. She's a slender build of cat anyway, but has anyone experienced this pattern in a kitten of this age? I seem to remember something similar with Lolita, my old lady who passed away in May, when she was exactly the same age, but I put it down to a particularly hot summer at that long ago time.

change in eating pattern

Hi Elenki,as long as Miso is still playful, bright eyed and active I wouldn't worry too much but definitely take her to the vet if she continues to lose weight. I've had some rescue kitties that never really slowed down their eating but after they were fixed they also gained a lot of weight.

Hi, Eleniki, Miso sounds adorable. I think, to be on the safe side, if she goes off her food altogether, for more than a day or two, I would take her to the vet.
But perhaps she's feeling full and content for the first time in her little life and just not hungry... Keep an eye on your little one and give her scritches from me!

Thanks jcat and buttercup. She is indeed bright eyed and as highly active (and bold) as usual. Between last night and this morning, she ate about half her normal intake, which is an improvement. She is very thin, and I think I'll bring her to the vet anyway, tomorrow. We were away for 3 nights last weekend, and our neighbours, who she'd not met really, came in to feed her for one day, then a friend, who had met her and who loves cats, stayed for 2 nights and found her to be playful and friendly, but not that interested in her food. I'm wondering if the change of personnel upset miso and caused a little worry in her kitten brain that we had gone, making her stop eating. Apologies for going on about something relatively small, as I know there are people on purrs who have far more heart-breaking issues.

No, no! Don't ever think ANYTHING IS TOO SMALL! That's why we are all here, a community to help each other out! Ask away, we may have had the same experience and know what to do! So glad Miso is better! Hugs to Miso!

I also have a five month baby male who is active, slender (but fuzzy), bold, and mischevious. Mickey is still eating is normal intake though. Yes, very good! Taking her to the vet tomorrow will be insuring! :)
