  1. Tomorrow this massive grant proposal starts getting duplicated for shipment, to arrive on Thursday at whatever federal agency it's going to. Am on the third of four 15-page sections, just giving it a proofread now. Will do the fourth section tomorrow AM.

Mr. Leeny called and told me that Gabie is sitting by the door waiting for me. Aw.

  5. Finished at 12:45 pm. Now it goes to someone else to be submitted electronically. Forgot that we don't duplicate and ship this stuff any more.

  6. Time to relax Leeny!! Have a martini and head on over to the roller rink!

  7. I was just there, 2bp! But no martinis. I wouldn't want to end up in the ER on Mardi Gras a second time.

  9. Well, 2bp, it was like this. It was a case of my thinking, "If a regular dose of medicine works well, even more will work better." On Mardi Gras in 2003, I was nervous and had a stomach ache because I had realized that morning that Mr. Leeny and I were going to have to file Chapter 7. So, that afternoon at my office I took more than the prescribed amounts of the nervousness and stomach upset medicines I was on at the time.

About four hours later, the cleaning staff found me unconscious on my office floor. An ambulance was called, and the EMTs found my oxygen saturation to be at 74%. They took me to the hospital "Code 3," which means, in the ambulance driver's words, "lights, siren, and run the red lights." Mr. Leeny was at the hospital when I got there, and so was my retired former pastor--he had left the church Shrove Tuesday pancake supper for a while to come check on me (Mr. Leeny had called him). I had to drink activated charcoal and was kept 24 hours for observation.

My pastor came to see me in the afternoon, before I was released. It was, of course, Ash Wednesday, and I, of course, was in no condition to attend the service that night. I, jokingly, told him that I had already drunk my ashes last night. He was not amused.

So, I'd better stay away from alcohol/medication interactions this year.

  13. That night I developed a taste for ginger ale. The only way they could get me to drink the charcoal was to throw Mr. Leeny out of the room (he was getting agitated) and give me ginger ale to drink after every mouthful of charcoal. It's my favorite soft drink now.
