(Ten o’clock Tuesday night) The disco ball spins, sprinkling rainbow sparkles on the walls of the rink. The DJ turns off the music, picks up the microphone, and walks to the center of the floor.... The rink crackles with anticipation as he holds his hand up for silence. All eyes are watching him intently as he begins. “Ladies, gentlemen, and gentlekitties, thank you all for making the first annual TDK Mardi Gras skating party a rollicking success! It is my great pleasure to announce this year’s recipient of the “kitty baby” hidden in one of the king cakes is none other than our own ....... CUDDLES!!! As you all know, this means that Cuddles and her furrfamily have earned the honor of hosting next year’s Mardi Gras party right here in the TDK skate rink!
The rink explodes with the clapping of floofy paws and whoops and hollers of joy! Mac and Fred scoop Cuddles up on their shoulders and skate her around the rink for a kitty victory lap while the audience goes wild with joy! “YEA!!! HIP, HIP, HOORAY! CUDDLES! CUDDLES! CUDDLES! YOU DID IT! YOU ROCK! Cuddles, still somewhat sleepy from all the king cake she consumed during the party, is trying to grasp the significance of her achievement... Slowly it dawns on her, and she starts waving both her paws at the audience as she circles the rink on the boys shoulders! As she gets into her roll as the “Queen of the Mardi Gras” she starts doing a “kitty paw beauty queen wave” and scoops up strands of beads to toss to her adoring kitty fans! After about three laps of the rink the crowd is quieting down somewhat, but the excitement lingers. The DJ then continues, “Thank you all for coming this evening. I hope you had a memorable time. Since the hour is late and kitties need to be home to snuggle with their furrfamiles, we will have one last skate dance and then bid you all a gentle good night..... And we hope to see everyone here again next year for the second annual TDK Mardi Gras party, hosted by none other than our own Cuddles and her furrramily!!
Mac and Fred skate towards the snack bar and gently lower Cuddles to the ground. Her tummy is getting a little “grumbly” from all the king cake now, but she is very happy and so proud of herself. The music begins and the kitties head out for the last skate of the evening, chatting gaily to each other.
As the last song ends, everyone gathers their empty snack trays and dishes, packs up their skates, and purrs their ‘good-byes’ before heading home thru the wormhole. Happy and content, they will sleep very well tonight, and most probably all day Wednesday!
Mac and Grommie find Willow and Windi (who, much to her mommy’s relief, is still fully clothed) and head home for their sleep over. Kittymom has their beds ready and the food and water laid out -she knows they will all sleep soundly with sweet kitty dreams of the fun they had at the Mardi Gras this year. There will be time tomorrow for the girls to have a little “salon party” painting their nails and fluffing their fur before they head home to snuggle with their mommy when she gets home from her own ‘spa’ visit ;-)
