  1. I have two five month old kittens. I adopted Sophie a little over a month ago, but in the last five days she's been sneezing and coughing. Not often and there's no runny nose, discharge, or runny eyes. She seems to still be eating and has plenty of energy.

Any and all advice would be much appreciated.

  2. Congratulations on your new kittens and welcome to the Daily Kitten!

I'm not experienced in dealing with a sneezing and coughing cat, but there are many very knowledgable folks who post here so keep checking back for more comments. I would be concerned if my cat was coughing. Is anything coming up? If Sophie isn't producing hair balls with her coughing, I'd want her to be seen by a vet. Has she and her sibling been to a vet? Gotten shots? Tested for feline aids and feline leukemia?

I hope this is nothing very serious. It is good that she is eating and has plenty of energy. Please let us know how she gets along over the next few days. :)

  3. No, nothing's coming up when she coughs. She and Nathaniel have both been to the vet, but she still has one more set of vaccines left to get.

  4. First of all, welcome to TDK, Libbykate ~ Have your kittens been to the vet for their exams and had any vaccinations yet? If not, that's a major priority; if so, maybe you can call your vet for a quick 'phone consult ~ just to see if your kitten needs to be checked or if it's just a slight reaction to the shots.... And, please check back here frequently because there are many TDK members much more knowledgable about these things than I am, and they will find this thread and post suggestions for you.

  5. Cool avatar! Which kitten is pictured?

Click on my avatar to see more pics of my two kits, Digit and Furl. :)

She sounds fine, but if it were me and Sophie continues to be coughing, I'd give the vet a call tomorrow.

  9. Yes, yes, Nathaniel is quite handsome! You can understand why I would instantly fall in love with him.

  10. He is a beauty! Is he a tuxie? He and Sophie must be great companions for you. My husband and I are wrapped around our kits' paws. There is no question as to who is in charge in our home! lol

  11. Sophie has been sneezing and coughing a little more this morning. Should I see about taking her to the vet tomorrow or just call them today?

  12. I think best to play it safe and take her in today.

  13. Hi, LK, Welcome to TDK,
I would suggest taking Sophie in. Kittens get upper respiratory illnesses and they can be quite hard on them. Better to find out if it is a little cold or a virus of some kind. They are very cute. Feel better Sophie.

  15. Sophie's been on antibiotics for almost 48 hours now, and she seems to be doing better already. Keep your fingers crossed for her please. If the coughing doesn't stop, I have to take her in for chest x-rays.

  16. I'm glad you took Sophie to the vet and got her started on antiobiotics. That is good news that she is improving!!! I hope this stops the coughing. :)
