  1. The tournament's kicking my butt!

I've been getting up around 5:15, picking up people for the airport at 6:15, been back to open at the tournament site at 7:00, working til 4:15, going to work at the gym 4:30 - 9:00 while on call for the tournament and then going back to the tournament again from 9:30 to midnight and getting home and in bed around 12:30-12:45.

Until today, everything has been going well but I'm getting more and more tired and my brain is fried. Today was chaos. I lost a couple of drivers who drove so badly the people complained and the tournament director told me to not let them drive anymore. a couple didn't show up and I was very short on drivers. I ended up having to run from my desk, get someone who doesn't know the procedures to cover for me and stay in phone contact while I had to go pick up people. We were late on a few pick-ups and one French player had a fit and swore at me in French.
    Tough day!

I'm at the gym 1-8 today and caught myself thinking that it was nice coming here for an afternoon to relax a bit!!!! Yes- that's exactly what I thought - and about the stupid gym!!! But that's how stressful it's been.
Co-coordinator is fine when he's there. He's been coming in around three and staying til around 11pm or midnight. However, all he does is the basic stuff and I can't count on him to help me organize or arrange anything.
He was stumped by how we were going to get the lines people and umpires to all their flights on Monday and just called me about it. He's not offering to help, so I told him I will make a pickup at the hotel at 4:00am (yes, 4:00 am!), run to West Palm Beach airport, come back for a 5:30am airport run to Ft. lauderdale and return for a 7:00am airport run back to West Palm Beach. Arrrrgh! I told him to let the woman in charge of lines people and umpires let them know the schedule and sign up for whatever ride they want.

Yawn! Can't wait til it's over on Monday night!!!

  5. GD, does the hotel have any shuttle service? Maybe you could enlist their help to shuttle folks to the airport as a goodwill gesture.... or, maybe, a limo/shuttle service in town would 'volunteer' some drivers and vehicles to assist if you could provide some kind of publicity (local TV, radio and/or newspaper mention) and/or tax deduction to the company for their help? I know these are 'last minute' suggestions, but, maybe worth a try? Hang in there, sweetie, it will be over soon {{{GD}}}

  6. Good grief GD, have they any idea how difficult it has been for you. I bet they don't. You've been a real trooper by the sounds of it.

  9. I'm driving the tournament cars, Marsha - Porsche SUVs. THey may be gone by Sunday night, though, in which case I'll have to take one of the two vans we rented from Enterprise.
Speaking of Enterprise. Saturday was really busy and I didn't have enough cars and then one of the vans got a problem with a belt or something and the noise just got worse and worse to the point where we couldn't drive it. I called Enterprise on Sunday 4 times and each time my message got a bit more urgent and less nice. Well, turns out Enterprise is closed on Sunday. Ooops - no wonder they didn't call back!
I called them Monday morning and one of the representatives shot right over with a replacement and took the broken van with him.

I finally got to watch tennis last night - but only by taking time off from the gym! It was a fiasco!!! :(

  10. GD I hope you took Tuesday off from the gym so you can either sleep all day or spend the day cuddling and relaxing with the boys.

  11. PORSCHE-WHOO HOO

    Posted 1 year ago by mollycat71 #

  12. SM, no, no time off Tuesday, but I don't have to be at the gym til 4:30, so that helps.

Molly, the Porsches are nice, but I liked the Mercedes better that we had all the other years.

Who wants to hear about my attempt at a date last night?

Posted 1 year ago by GreatDane #

  13. Spill it GD ! LOL

  14. Wow, I got tired just reading about what you are doing GD! You are amazing and I hope the Tennis people appreciate you. I say they should give you a spa day at a very upscale SPA place.

A date, GD! Whoo hoo! Please tell us all about it.

Porsches or Mercedes, either one must be nice. I have been in a Mercedes CLS550 when I worked at a small software firm and the new CFO decided to take the admin staff (myself, the executive assistant, and a receptionsist) to lunch. It was a nice car and was very powerful. They cost around $80k! Ouch! The CFO had gotten a nice bonus from his last employer before leaving them.

  18. ahem......fingers tapping waiting on date attempt info....

Posted 1 year ago by Buttercup #

  19. Yep, they're prety expensive and brand new. It's kind of scary!

Okay, so here's what happened last night - not exactly a date, but an attemped one - I think?
First of all - XBF has been really down lately and I felt bad, so I told him to come out to the tournament one night and I'd take the evening off and watch tennis with him. I set that up for Thursday night.
At the same time, I thought the tournament would be a good opportunity to maybe get the guy I like from the gym to go watch some tennis with me. I told him I had tickets if he'd like to go and so he and his brother went on Tuesday night. Unfortunately I was too busy to join them, but they had a good time. Anyway, at least he got my phone number and we've been chatting quite a few times on the phone by now.I told him if he wanted to go watch more tennis, I would get him more tickets and he called me yesterday and said he'd like to come watch more tennis. We chatted for half an hour while I drove Lleyton Hewitt's luggage to the airport and I told him I was planning on watching tennis myself. I was wishing I wouldn't be watching with XBF the night the guy was coming out there!
Anyway, I got delayed with the emergency trip with the luggage and called the guy and told him I'd meet them at the gate with the tickets at seven. XBF calls and tells me he'll see me at six. Arrrrrgh!

So I get back and rush out to meet with XBF. He was there an hour before the matches started at seven, so we had dinner in the food court. I haven't had a chance to talk to him, so last night he's telling me the whole reason why he's depressed. He just went with his wife to the court house to file their divorce papers that day. Also, they're sharing the house right now and not getting along. He was seing someone for a while who got upset he was still married and dumped him a month or so ago. He's looking for a new place to live as well as a job and is just having a tough time :(
After I listened for a while, we went to watch the match and ten minutes later, gym guy calls and tells me he'll meet me at the gate. I had to tell XBF that two friends from the gym were meeting me at the gate to get tickets and I would be right back.
I run to the gate and find - only the guy I like, and not his brother!!! He told me his brother would be out a bit later and let's go watch the match. My plan had been to give him the tickets and return to XBF and hope the two brothers wouldn't see me with XBF and get the wrong impression. Instead he was alone, so I had to take him up to where I had left XBF!!!!

The brother finally showed up half an hour late, but the four of us ended up watching the matches together. I sat next to XBF and gym guy and his brother right behing us on the bleachers. XBF kept rubbing my legs because I was cold and sort of touching my arm and stuff. I kept sort of backing up so that gym guy wouldn't think we were a couple, but not enough to upset XBF by being stand-offish. Gym guy sat directly behind me and kept touching my shoulder to talk to me.
It was horrible and I couldn't wait for the matches to end! XBF got up between sets in the lastmatch and told me he was going home. I was trying to get him to stay and not be upset or anything, but he left anyway. I spent another 30 minutes or so sitting with the brothers and watching the match til the end.

Anyway, I hope I didn't hurt XBF and that he didn't feel ignored and I hope gym guy doesn't think XBF and I are an item! Arrrrrgh!

  20. Sorry it was late - gym guy walked in :)

  21. Well that had to be a bit akward, poor GD! of all the darn luck...... I bet gym guy will call you again!

  22. Whoo hoo! GYM gUY!

    Posted 1 year ago by mollycat71 #

  23. OMG!! But I think you handled the situation very well. XBF shouldn't be miffed-after all, he is the one who is still married, living at home, and dating somebody else (no wonder he got dumped!)--why should you care????
I know, you don't like to hurt anybody's feelings. BUT, if you want a whiff of a chance with "gym guy", you're gonna have to be straight with him (gym guy). Good Luck!

    Posted 1 year ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

  24. Yeah, but now I have no idea what to do next!!!!!

I thought I had planned this out really well - guess not :(

Gym guy walked in and I told him about my sucky day today and he was sympathetic and told me I can only do so much.

As for the transport to the airport, Kittymom, I feel like I should do whatever I can to help after the way I screwed up today. I had the old coordinator come in to help a bit while I was driving and she messed up a few things herself, but it was my fault since I created the mess to begin with by not preparing sufficiently :(

  25. oh jeez,GD,that's better than I'm doing though,I don't think I've even been around any guys less that 70 here in Vero.

  26. Are you serious? Sounds to me like you are doing an outstanding job! You have been working your butt off all week for this tourney. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself, GD. My goodness, you can't DO IT ALL for heaven's sakes, you are just one person! I think you need to be gentle to you! Hang in there.

  28. Thanks!
XBF is a good guy who's always there for me when I need him. He fixes my computer, fixes my car, came and picked me up from work at night when my car didn't work, he's going to work on my tennis partner and my doubles game, etc. He's done a lot for me and been there for me and I want to be there for him, too, when he needs me.

There are a few local tournaments coming up here and I was thinking of trying to go with Gym Guy. I may be able to swing that. I can't tell if he's interested just as a friend or what, but it did seem a bit competitive last night between XBF and him last night and both of them are usually people (hmmm?) people/persons. OMG - I'm tired - can't think! One people person - two people people?

Posted 1 year ago by GreatDane #

  29. Never mind me - I'm blabbering at this point!

  30. People persons?
