Three day old abandoned kitten:
Three days ago, I discovered three kittens on the porch of an home where the owner had left quickly. These three kittens were squalling, and flies were swarming around them. They had some disgusting and smelly mass attached to them, and they were all trying desperately to get away from it, but they were all still attached to it. It turns out, it was the placenta. It was probably the Mother cat's first litter, and she didn't know what to do. I rushed them over to a local animal care clinic, and Dr. Roberts got the kittens seperated, tied their umbilical cords, and even picked a few maggots off of one of the kittens. She got them to take a little formula, they all suckled. But sadly, two of them passed away yesterday, and I am trying valiently to keep the last little fighter alive. My problem is that he's not pooping. I have been giving him the powdered KMR that the Dr. gave me, and I was using a little bottle. I have since switched to a syringe, because the baby is fighting taking the bottle. Every couple of hours or so, I get a little bit of formula in him, and I rub him all over, including his little bottom. He finally got out the tiniest little ball of something, but I'm concerned because I thought he'd have more pee and poop. I don't want to lose this baby, too. He's a little squealer, and protests loudly when I try to feed him, and massage him.
I was grateful that the Vet didn't charge me a dime, I have been out of work since last October, and am in a bad way. The last little bit of formula that I gave him, I put two drops of olive oil in it...I'm sure the amount that he ingested was incredibly scant. Can anyone give me some advice as to how I can help this scrappy baby pull through? Thank you all very much!

I am giggling, because all of this talk about pooping reminds me of senior citizens who's daily concerns are about just this! lol! And I am so happy that I found The Daily Kitten when I googled about my constipated baby kitten.
Yay! Hooray for cat poop! *g*! And once my baby takes a goooood dumper, I'll be doing cartwheels, and will share my joy with you all! :D

I have a question...The baby that I have been bottle feeding usually starts crying for food every couple/few hours. Now, he's sleeping more. Is it alright
to wake him to feed him? It's after midnite here on the East coast, in NC, and his last feeding was around 8 pm. I'll be going to sleep soon. Should I wake him, and make him take some formula? And I weighed him on my little gram scale, and it read "341". He is five days old. And I will be weighing him every day for awhile to ensure that he is gaining weight. Thank you for all of your help!

I must have misread the scale...I just weighed him again and it said, "381". According to the gram to ounces calculater, that would make him approx 13 ounces, which can't be right. He's only 5 days old! Well, I erred on the "better safe than sorry", and woke the sleepy baby, and got a little bit of formula into him. Only about 1 teaspoons worth tho. And got a little pee out of him, but no poop. He did some poop earlier today. I guess he just wasn't all that hungry, right? I guess I just thought that all kittens had voracious appetites...sigh...what do I know? This is all so new to me. The neatest part is that he's purring now! I just LOVE that! I had no idea a baby could purr at such an early age! Funny, again, this little guy must "hear" me, because now he's crying a bit...I hope he wants to eat more!
