Hey all
I have a problem Chucky has ripped open his pad on his foot(I woke up to blood all over the kitchen, I was looking for a dead critter) He was limping the past 2 days and we couldn't see anything so my daughter took him to the vet yesterday and being true to his name bit the vet until blood showed(the vet will not see him now until he's sedated). The vet didn't see anything wrong and told her to just watch him. I think he had an abscess that ruptured. My vet doesn't open till 8:30am. I have him locked in his crate at this moment. We tried to wrap it but he bit me and also my daughter. He's bleeding and will not let us wrap it does anyone have any suggestions??

Oh, poor little Chucky. Dorie, is there a towel or something on the bottom of his crate? If so, I think I would be inclined just to leave him in there until you can get him to the vet. Do you think it's a dangerous amount of blood? is the only thing, but I shouldn't think it would be from a foot pad. I'm sorry, I'm not being much help here.

Morning or should I say evening Jcat! We have a towel in with him and I figured that would help with the bleeding! I think it's bleeding because he keeps walking on it, It's dripping when I look at it(or the best I can.) He is the worst patient!

Oh Dorie...I wish I could help you with that one. Obviously he is protecting himself since he is injured. I would have to say just leave him in there with the towel. since he won't let you help him, it's hard to suggest anything since he is biting. Please let us know how he is after the vets. ((hugs))

Oh, Dorie, ouch! You are a good meowmy to such a naughty boy. But I guess he is in pain.
Has he room to walk in the crate? Hopefully he will sit down soon and content himself with licking it. If it is an abcess, which sounds like a good guess to me, I think the blood will have helped clear it out and if he starts licking, that has an antibacterial action. If the blood is just dripping, I think it should be okay till you can get him to the vet. It is more important that you and especially your daughter, with the staph, don't get bitten (or at least don't get bitten again!)

Guy's we get bit by him on a weekly basis! Hence the name Chucky like the killer doll! It's just him! If he don't like it he bites it!

Ohmigosh, Dorie! No wonder you call him Chucky. I definitely wouldn't go near him at the moment then, if he bites when he isn't in pain, I don't like to think what he could do when he is.
I also think, when animals are stressed out like this, sometimes trying to intervene can just stress them out more, I would definitely let him calm down and let the vet deal with him.
-
Morning Dorie, do you think you would be able to peg him on the scruff to keep him quiet and calm and maybe less inclined to bite. Sorry I can't help with any other suggestions except to check just how much Chucky is bleeding.

Dorie, there is a video at expert village (http://www.expertvillage.com/video/5100_cat-bleeding.htm) on how to treat a cat that is bleeding. This is the script:
I imagine Chucky is just oozing/dripping blood, so I think I would let the towel in his crate do the work.
How to Treat a Cat that is Bleeding
Hi, this is Dr. Greg McDonald, and we are coming to you from Expert Village.com. We are talking about cats and first aid in cats. One of the things that is pretty common for people as well as cats and dogs is to start bleeding. They can bleed for all different kinds of reasons such as cuts, fractures, things like that, and it is very important to administer first aid in those circumstances. If your cat is losing a lot of blood, obviously you are going to need to get them to the veterinarian, but the things that you can do before you get to the veterinarian are very important. There are basically two types of bleeding that we see. The venus bleeding is kind of just oozing, slow blood that is coming out of your cat, and cats are never going to bleed to death from a slow bleeding oozing thing when the blood pressure gets low and an animal clots it is not going to be a problem. So even though it is important to stop the bleeding with pressure, and you can use any kind of cloth or something like that, even a wash rag would work well, wrap it up and put some pressure right over the area. The ones that we are more worried about that need immediate care from you and the veterinarian is the arterial bleeding, and if your cat gets a cut that is so bad that you see blood pumping out, which means that an artery has been cut, and you need to put pressure on that. Direct pressure even from your hand is okay. You know you don’t want to get your cat contaminated, but on the other hand, you are not going to have any animal to work with if you don’t stop the bleeding right away, so let your veterinary worry about any infections that are happening later. You’ve got to stop the bleeding right away. -
Thanks jcat! I just moved him into the bigger dog crate with a small litterbox with just newspaper in it and a clean towel! He's still oozing but not as bad. He's not happy being penned up and I'm not giving him his morning food until after the vet(as there going to have to sedate him!) Will let you all know what happens at the vets! he is one unhappy cat!
Peace

The only piece of advice I can offer is that cold packs or ice can help to stem bleeding, at least in linear cuts. I'm not sure if that'd work as well for a 'hole' like an abscess wound though. Poor you and poor Chucky! I've never had a cat bite bad enough to bleed much, but Sultie was very capable of slashing us with his claws. Let us know how the vet goes please!

Good luck Dorie with Chucky, poor baby he is probably scared besides being annoyed. Hope that your bites heal quickly, wish that his disposition would get better.

Poor Chucky, I hope the vet can get him fixed up. I have to tell you, Dorie, that Chucky looks exactly like my late great Jerrie - I noticed it before. Jerrie loved everybody... except the vet. Frankly, when he went to the vet he became demon-cat. I had to send an apology card once! Be sure to put plenty of peroxide on your bite (you probably already knew that).

I know there's a product that stops bleeding for animals, but I don't remember what it's called. I was at a friend's house once and she clipped the dog's nails and nicked him and I went to PetsMart to pick up whatever this product was called. It's probably too late now, but I'll go check and see if I can find it.

GD It's s septic stick! I didn't even think of that thanks!

Actually, I found it - it's called Quick Stop but I can't find a store that carries it.
Take a look at this, though - seems you can use wet flour:

Oh, they do carry it at PetsMart:

Ok Chucky is still at the vet! the vet looked at the foot and it started bleeding all over again! he needs to have several stitches put in it, it's a slice. I have no idea how he got it! So there going to sedate him and stitch it up! I'll be able to pick him up later this afternoon! It was very funny the tech who was there yesterday was there today and told the vet he was a terror! He came out of the crate and cuddled into my arms and let the vet examine it without a sound?? He is such a weird cat! Please keep him in your prayers
Peace

lol, Chucky isn't a dummy, he didn't want the vet tech to feel like he actually 'knows' him!! Don't they always want to surprise whomever is dealing with them, that way we are always on our toes :)

The vet said she will wrap it and he will have a satellite collar! I'm not worried about him taking it off. it will be the girls to his rescue!

Oh Chucky...you little devil you. Whatever did you get yourself into now? Jeff was just suggesting the use of a product called..NuSkin..not sure of the spelling. He says that surfers used it when they get cut on the reef and didn't want to stop surfing (never wasting the good waves). I'm glad you have an appt.with your fav. vet!
