Although we don't have our own cat, we do have a semi stray, spayed female who sometimes comes in for food, tickles and a warm bed. She was left on the street when her original family moved away, and she is mainly looked after by a couple a few doors down from us, but she won't let them collar her, she won't just come back to them and seems to enjoy having the option of many homes.
Anyway, we live on the second floor in our block. When Chippie follows us up, or comes looking for us, she always seems to get confused and stop in front of the door on the first floor, and we have to call and encourage her up. The flat below has two young neutered, soppy male cats, who don't like to go out much. A few days ago we noticed that the flat owner had spread 'Get off' animal repellant over the door step area, and when we were chatting to him he mentioned that a cat had been spraying by his door. It's not his boys, because they don't go out much and are supervised when they do.
Our first thought was that it couldn't be Chippie because she's a girl and spayed; however looking online it might well be. And I can imagine her doing it if she thinks that's our place and then smells the other cats in it and wants to try and reclaim the place. Dereck and I feel responsible for this and want to encourage Chippie to stop spraying there; any suggestions?

Hi Metsa,it could be Chippie but most likely it is a visiting unneutered male or even other neutered males will spray around another male cats home. I haven't had that problem but in pet stores they have that pet scent cleaner that's usually good at removing all odors.

It's probably a stray male.
