  1. Opens door, looks around calls to TDK agency kitties who have been yowling for their breakfast.

Hey where is everyone this morning?

Sets out a huge brunch buffet with breakfasty and lunchy sorts of things and turns on the open sign. Bacon and anything with bacon is the special of the day

  2. Hi, KK! I'm here just waiting for that worthless Hazel to arrive at my house. Why do I think that I'm going to need to get out that dust cloth after all? :-(

I think that lots of the others are snowed in and are huddling up with their kitties to stay warm!

  3. I wondered where the cafe was this morning, thanks for opening up, KYK.

I'm sleepy! <yawn> Had a great weekend at the crossword tournament, did slightly better than last year, but didn't sleep much :) I think I'll just help myself to coffee for now.

Stay warm and safe, everyone who's getting snowed on.

  4. Hi to KK, WWM and Kilroy! I, too, wondered where everyone was this morning! OK, bacon it is! I need to clean also, WWM, but think I will go to the school and have lunch with my granddaughter instead :))) Then when I get home, well I just may not feel like starting anything.....haha. Kilroy, so glad you enjoyed the tournament and that you did somewhat better than last year....

  5. WWM...this looks like a foolproof bread for you to bake...just in time for St Patrick's Day, too!

  9. ((Helen))

  10. No, I haven't heard anything from Joan....but with those storms out East, she may be stuck on the mountain...but Kilroy didn't say anything about the weather being bad where she is, so I don't know.....

  11. I have set up the coffee IV bags for anyone that needs a direct infusion! Kilroy, I am glad you had a good time and improved your standing from last year. WWM, Hazel didn't show up at my house this weekend either. She must be on vacation.

CM, sorry you are wonky. I am sure it is part hormones, part exhaustion and part the weather. It is ok to hang out in lurkland if you want. We'll keep the light on for ya...as they say. Hi SOM, DEE and KATT!

  12. Ok, FOX news had a camera at Mt.Something NJ this morning and it got me going, Thanks Katt.

  13. {{{CM}}} What's wrong? Anything I help with?

Thanks for the nice comments about the tournament. I came in 283rd out of 684 (there were only 15 fewer competitors than last year, which was pretty good considering it's not an inexpensive event). Last year I came in 320th out of 699.

This year there was a camera crew there from the Food Network, filming an episode of "Dinner Impossible". They brought in a chef and told him he had 8 hours to prepare a luncheon for 500 people, and on top of that, each dish had to illustrate a particular cliche ("cream of the crop", "ducks in a row", "out of the frying pan and into the fire" etc.). During the lunch the top contestants in the tournament had a contest to see who could figure out what cliche each dish represented. It was fun, and the food was good :) I'll be interested to see the show when it's on, to see what went on in the kitchen.

Oh, and I'm in the New York Times' slideshow of photos from the tournament (for the second year in a row). If you look at the slideshow here:
http://wordplay.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/02/28/the-tournament-begins/ and go to picture #6, I'm near the top of the picture wearing a gray sweatshirt, directly behind the dark-haired woman who is looking to the side.

  16. Oh, and on Saturday night they had a Family-Feud type game and people had to form teams that had at least one person over the age of 50 and one under the age of 30. I had 4 teams try to recruit me to fill the "under 30" slot!!!

Posted 2 years ago by Kilroy #

  17. I found you kilroy!! It took me a minute :)
Under 30..good for you!! You are only 21 anyway right :D

  21. Wow, it is quiet this morning in the cafe. CM, I understand your "wonkiness" feeling. I am feeling that way too. Not interested in being at work today and the weather is rain which makes it not fun to drive in. I was watching the kitty cam this weekend and I am a bit mad at the LA Shelter. On Sunday they didn't come to feed the kittens till 12:30pm and then they didn't feed them anymore. That is a long time for 7 1/2 week old kittens to not have food and then to go a whole night with no more food as the wet food was gone with 20 minutes or less. I don't know if they had any dry food but this morning when I started watching them at 8am, they were miaowing a lot like they were very hungry. When the singing helper guy came in, OMG, they miaowed so loud and it was the long whiney miaows too so they were definitely hungry then. They guy said he was going to have work 7 days a week for them. I would if I worked there. They are too young to not have food all night long. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the chat area when I am at work for strange reason so I can't let them know how unhappy I am. I will when I get home from work tonight.

Kilroy sounds like you had a banging time at the Crossword Tournament this weekend. Hope Joan is okay on her mountain. Thanks for opening the cafe Kykat.

Property manager had a get together to meet-your-neighbors party on Sat. It was okay but hardly anyone came so I didn't meet anyone I didn't already know. I did find out that some of my neighbors are getting their rent raised and that one of them said in announcement to those that were there (I missed it) to leave voice messages on the property manager's voice msg machine so they can be forwarded to the owner stating that it is unreasonable to raise rents in this horrible economy and that even the apartment complex next door is lowering their rents (probably write a letter too). The property owner of my apartment complex is a greedy landlord. She is going to have us paying for water, garbage and sewer starting next month, raised the fee on the washers, and now wants to raise rents in this bad economy. She is going to have more people moving out if she raises rents.

So am at work but would rather be working from home. I have "mondayitus" and am not in a good mood. I don't have much to work on at the moment but hopefully that will change this coming week with everyone back to work after being away last week at a week long conference.

  24. Guten Morgen Kyo & Haru´s Mom! Wie gehts? Sorry that is all I know and I am sure it is the familar version and not the formal version that I should be using.

Okay, so now the Senior Director's admin goes straight to my manager to discuss issues and things but when I have things to discuss with the Senior Director, I am suppose to go directly to her. What is annoying me is that not only she is doing this and not including me but that the admin goes and sits in the office and they whisper. Why doesn't she just close the door for privacy. I feel like the admin is thumbing her nose at me so to speak. Growl!!! I hate to say it but I am feeling more and more like they do not need me.

  25. I hat that SMM, but in this economy, keep your shoulder to the wheel and get every paycheck you can!

My sister lost her job 2 days before Christmas and her husband was laid off right after. She is temping at a distribution center where they are working 10 hour shifts 6 days a week. It is hard, but they do pay overtime and she is trying to get in every hour she can because it is just a temp thing. It's tough out there. (Extra prayers for those on the list seeking jobs.)

    Posted 2 years ago by KYKAT 12 23 #

  26. Hallo SMM, Mir geht es gut, und dir?? I know this economical crisis is killing everyone, it is even taking its toll here in Deutschland. the only ones that are not suffering are the kitties :) we still spoil them no matter.

  27. I spoke with my manager on Friday about the restructuring going on at my company's parent company and she said that she didn't think we would have any layoffs as we were the only division to post a tiny profit these past couple of quarters and we have been running lean already. I am still concerned of course and will find out in the coming weeks with performance reviews and end of fiscal year ending at the end of March. I know that unemployment reached 10.1% here in Calif and they had on the news how a normal job fair might have say around 1500 people but a recent one had 5600 people come.

KHM, your kitties are beautiful by the way. Alles gut.

Posted 2 years ago by SylMiaFelixMomma #

  28. vielen dank! I know with the unemployment rate rising people are beginning to wonder whats gonna happen, my outlook is that things always get worse before they get better. maybe Obama is the breath of fresh air the US needs to break out of this slump.

  29. That stupid Hazel!!! If she would just show up I think that I would fire her!

K&H - I know that you will be impressed with my German, all of which I learned from watching one of my favorite movies, Das Boot, about 50 times! I can say -

    Angriff beginnend.

    Gut Männer. Ist alles klar?

Needless to say, there is very little reason for me to use those two phrases!!!
