  1. Sam's Club is offering a really good deal on the Dell Inspiron Minis. I'm usually very against Dells, but I'm in need of a tiny laptop to carry with me to class for notes and the like and to take home with me when I travel. Taking the whole desktop just isn't an option for a weekend trip. ^_^

Does anyone have any opinions about these minis, and in particular, the Dell?

  2. I have a normal sized Inspiron. I really like it, I just wish I had taken better care of it (it's currently got a corrupted registry and won't boot up). I've had it for 4 years. I do want to get a new computer, and will continue with Dell. I would recommend it!

  3. They replaced all of our computers with Dell and they are total pieces of junk - everybody's computer has been corrupted at least once. I've had mine re-imaged 3 times and it's not 2 years old. As soon as the warranties are up we're going back to HPs. At least that's what the IT gurus tell me.

  4. Honestly I have a friend who bought one and I can't see a thing on the screen! I am not that OLD but my eyes could hardly read anything on the screen.

  5. I'm not so much worried about the size as about the fact that it's a Dell. Their desktops are notoriously awful and some of their laptops, too. I haven't read a bad review, but I just wanted some opinions on here. :D

  6. LibKat,
My Son (21) just got a mini, and loves it because he can take it to class, then download his notes, etc. to his regular lap top! He's very high-tech oriented, so it's one of his fav "new toys"...... as far as brands, we've had mostly toshibas because we had problems with our dells & hps. I will say, daughter (18) who is attending UCF in the summer quarter is ordering her new computer from Mac.... she's majoring in digital media, and apparently Mac is light years ahead in graphics and stuff she needs to be able to do! I love my toshibas, and have had those for the last 4 laptops. Very sturdy and reliable machines, but like any computer - they're obsolete in about 4 yrs anyway!

  7. AV, did he get a Dell mini or one of the other brands?

    Posted 2 years ago by libbykate09 #

  8. LibKat, I'll have to ask him and get back with you. He showed it to me, but I didn't look at the brand.

  9. I have an ASUS EEEpc and I absolutely love it. Because of the small screen, it doesn't work well for viewing videos from YouTube and things like that, but for school and taking notes it is perfect. The only problems with the EEEpc is that the tiny keyboard does not work well for touch-typing, and the battery only goes for about two hours or so before needing to be recharged. But other than that, it is perfect for what I need it for -- which is doing online research for essays when I am in class, taking notes during class, and checking email or surfing the net when I am away from home.

I chose the EEEpc when it was still the only one if its kind, but I would still choose it over a Dell or almost any other mini due to the fact that it uses Linux. It can also use Windows XP, but I prefer to avoid Windows whenever possible.

  10. OW, what do you think of the ASUS computers in general? I am looking to get a new laptop and was looking at an ASUS (regular size, the old lady here can't see the screen on the little ones!).

  11. Loretta has a new 17" laptop and she got it for what she thought was a reasonal
price until she went looking for a case for it and relized that the 17" cases are about twice as much as a 15" case.Just thought I would throw that info at you to think about

  12. The only ASUS computer I have used is the EEEpc and it appears to be well designed and well put together. I have heard both good and bad things about ASUS computers so it might be a good idea to read some reviews about the particular computer you are interested in.

  13. That's another thing I love about my EEEpc -- I can put it in my purse if I need to, or I can use a bible cover as a carrying case.

  14. *laughs* I would never have thought of a Bible cover! That's amazing!

  15. I have never used a mini, but I have had 2 Dell Laptops and they have both been great.

  16. I have a Dell laptop and I haven't had any problems with it. But, don't let them put VISTA on it. It keeps me constantly vacillating between being homicidal and being suicidal. I just hate, hate, hate VISTA.

  17. Wow! A bible cover, that is SMALL!

  18. That is so strange you are asking about the mini Dell. I have a friend who just told me today that he was looking at one. He was going to order it off the Dell website. The girl he talked to told him he didn't want it because you could not run Excel on it. So if you use the Excel program you might want to double check to see for sure. I just bought a Acer Aspire One and I love it. They are very reasonable in price. It does everything I need it to and more. Excel works great on it.

  19. ... Son just got back with me, his was an Acer too! ....

  20. I don't think it's the name brand, it's a pc. What can I say?
I am a dyed-in-the-wool mac user, and probably always will be.
PCs with windows, are still based on DOS which was outdated when it arrived.
    GO MAC GO!!!!!!

  21. I'm going with the Dell. It's a reasonable enough price, and I really only need it for PowerPoint (maybe) and Word files. And the internet, of course.

  22. Loretta looked at the Acer at Staples and it still was availabe in XP

Posted 2 years ago by Renee in Arkansas #

  23. I am a mostly Mac user too. I just use windows when I have to. I like the EEEpc because it is Linux.

  24. I've got a Dell Inspiron and I love it. But I asked for XP instead of Vista because I've heard bad things about Vista.
