  1. "The banks need another bailout and countless homeowners cannot handle their mortgage payments, but one group is paying its bills: the dead."

This is a NYT article that is rather unbelievable. No only is the American taxpayer bailing them out, now they're double dipping from grieving relatives!

  3. Wow, that is really sad. Goes to show that those people will do anything for a buck, including exploiting the dead. Very sad!!

  4. When I was a collector we were forbidden to collect any debt from a "deceased account." As long as the family sent us a copy of the death certificate, that person's account was off limits and was closed.

  5. If this happens, just reply in a deeply weird voice:

"He's been in that box for a couple of days now and he doesn't talk anymore, and I can't hear anything. But if you reeeeeeeeeeely want to talk with him, I'll put the phone in the box."

Then, make some sharp, banging noises, and if the idiot is still on the line, tell him:

    "Heeeere's Daddy!"

I promise, they will never, ever call again.

  6. *giggles hysterically at Emma* Now that is funny!!!

I think I will make sure to let everybody who might have to deal with debt collectors when I move on know that I DO NOT WANT them to give any of the debt collectors anything! They aren't getting a dime from me while I am alive and I certainly don't want them getting anything after I have died.

  7. A friend of mine who had been in a very bad marriage got a call from one credit card company. The sweet young thing on the other end of the phone said, "But even though he's dead, don't you want to clear up his credit? Wouldn't that be the honorable thing to do?"

Elisa giggled, and said, "The most honorable thing Jack ever did was croak. However, if you want to call his girlfriend, the one who GOT that diamond bracelet he charged to his card, here's her number."

Sad to pass and yet be so unlamented!

  8. Hahaha...good one Emma! This story is truly a testimony to the depths these people will go to get the money they've lost. Too pathetic!! Grrrr!

  10. I agree, 2BP! We need to have a TDK meet-up somewhere in my neighborhood. I live in Greensburg, PA, so maybe sometime this coming summer? I will be happy to host it at my place, and I can promise some really good stuff!

And of course Rotley and Ruggles will co-host.

  11. How sad, I have forwarded this to my kids and told them if debt collectors call after I have died to give them the contact address of the cemetary and let them try to collect from that addy.

  12. My co-worker answered a call from MCI asking for her deceased mother--the guy insisted on speaking to her--she told him "Since you say you can reach anyone anywhere I hope you have a direct line to heaven, 'cause that's where my mother is!" He never called back. I don't know how these people can look themselves in the mirror. I pray I never get that desperate for a job that I need to do something like this.
