  1. I came home from work tonight, rushed in to use the bathroom (excuse the TMI!) and noticed on my way thru the bedroom that there was a gift-wrapped box on the end of the bed. When I came out of the bathroom I could hear MrKK and miniKK giggling in the bedroom and then I saw the box moving its way to the end of the bed - and a kitten fell out from underneath!

He is a gorgeous little tabby - looks a lot like my dear Spike - but without the bullseye on his side. That just makes me remember Spike more fondly, not miss him so much. I know some might think its too soon to get a new cat but I am pleased my dear husband and daughter went and got him. I will never forget Spike - I will chat to him whenever I hang out the washing as he is buried near the washing line and that was one of the times he used to be really friendly.

So what to call the new kitten? MiniKK wanted to call him Raccoon, MrKK then said Rocky. I said we can't call him Rocky - we have a new Rocky! So then I looked at the rings on his tail and we decided he will be Ringo. He was born in October and they got him from the SPCA - if I had gone with them we would have come home with all the kittens! There was a cute ginger one that MrKK was tempted by but miniKK put the kibosh on it - she thinks they grow into ugly cats (I'll try to raise her better).

So meet Ringo - he is my new gravatar (Press Ctrl F5 to refresh, folks!). Tomorrow I will create a Catster page for him. Dara is naturally less than impressed but Ringo is being kept in miniKK's room for now. Ringo is very laid back and purry - not nearly as scared as Spike was when we bought him home so here's hoping we will have a lapcat. He is the best birthday present they could have got me.

  3. What a little sweetie! How wonderful of MrKK and MiniKK to go and find him for you. I was so very sorry to hear of Spike's passing, and I'm glad that little Ringo will be there to comfort and love you.

  7. Woooooooo-hooooooooo!

Ringo is absolutely adorable! Awwww, bless him! The only person whose opinion matters on whether it's the right time to get another cat is YOU! And I think Ringo's love and antics will bring you a great deal of joy!

But did I hear you say that mini-KK vetoed adding another redhead to the family? Shock, horror!... ;-) But what a lovely thing for Mr KK and miniKK to do for you! Happy Birthday, Dara and Spike and Ringo's mum!

  8. First off, Happy Purrday KK and many more!! Ringo sounds like a very special little guy and Mr. KK and miniKK are sweeties for bringing him into the family. Spike will surely bring lil Ringo up to speed on the ins & outs with Dara plus enjoy your conversations whilst hanging the wash outside. The picture of Ringo is a keeper, he has that kitten zest in his eyes >^..^<

  11. KK, how wonderful that you have Ringo in your life. Spike is probably grinning at you from the bridge and proud that he paved the way for you to enjoy giving another a forever home.

  12. Happy Purrrday and congrats on Ringo....I LOVE the name!!! And no, I don't think it strange at all to get a new kitty so soon.....I do that because I can't stand the empty quiet of a house without a kitty in it! Spike would definitely approve! What a wonderful birthday present to you!

  14. Oh KK, I'm so happy for you. I love the name Ringo. I have a cheesy keyboard at work so I can't see him yet but I can't wait. Happy tears here. Happy Birthday indeed!

  15. I can't see him :(
Wonderful news! I always think that adopting another homeless kitty is the best way to honor our past loved one, that way the love goes on forever....may explain why I have 9 as I've lost 6 in the last 7 yrs!
May this be the best birthday ever.

  17. What a wonderful birthday present!!! And Ringo is the perfect name for a perfect little kitty with a ring around his tail. Now we each have a new kitty in the household--and who, hopefully, will be accepted by the current resident, right?

  18. Awwww, yay! Ringo looks like a sweetie, and what a nice thing for Mr. KK and miniKK to do. George would like to take polite exception to the comment about orangies, though :)

Happy Birthday, KK, and I hope you have years and years of purrs and snuggles and headbonks with Ringo.

  23. Congrats on the new addition! I love the story of how they "gift-wrapped" him for you.

  24. Happy Birthday, KK. What a great present. He looks, as my grandmother used to say, like he is "full of beans!" Mischevious and ready to pounce on everything. There's nothing like the kitten year. It's so much fun to watch their purrsonalities develop.

  27. What a wonderful birthday gift KK. Your hubby and daughter are so awesome! Well done family! Ringo is absolutely adorable! Such a sweet little innocent (for now..teehee) face. I'm sure it is delightful to have a kitten in the house again. They grow up so incredibly fast. Dear Spike is forever etched in all our hearts. Just a few minutes ago I happened to be checking Chuck's kitty friends on Catster (double checking I hadn't missed sending him an invite over time) and when I came to Spike's picture I stopped and immediately said "oh Spike". With all the similarities of the tabby furiends we have here...I find each face uniquely recognizable. Spike would definitely approve of Ringo, and Dara just needs time for her new little brother to acclimate. She has much to teach him. Con'cats' KK! *oh...and a early Happy Birthday*

  28. What a fantastic gift! That is so wonderful that MrKK and MiniKK knew to help you recover from the loss of Spike. We all know he retains a special place in your heart and you can talk to him anytime. Ringo is a cool name and hope you have many wonderful hours with him.

As others have said "Concats" on the new addition to your furr family!!

  30. What a marvelous early birthday present KK! He looks darling,Dara will come around. She can't be happy too soon or it will ruin her reputation as a siamese.
How wonderful of Mr KK and Mini KK,we will have to school her on orangies though ;)
