CM, potted meat is a melange of mechanically separated meat parts of indeterminate origin; it has the consistency of apple butter or peanut butter. I tend to refer to it as 'meat butter'.

oh dear.... potted meat, might have been what I've eaten tonite at Disney!!.... Over priced.... %#$#@tty food!.....12 hour wait lines..... it's a nightmare!!! .... and the Florida powers that be wonder why Disney is loosing money???!!...... just go there one day as a Fla. resident and you'll see....

ok, this thread looks to turn into a food fight! I'll go back to the original question. In grade school we brought lunch from home; no cafeterias except I think we could buy milk. In middle school I think I usually brought lunch most of the time with a little money for a snack. (...or a 45rpm record from the record place on the way home. We walked to school, uphill, both ways.) No lunchboxes though; you could get beat up for that!
In high school, I loved the mashed potatoes. Working in an office with a school cafeteria in the same building, the mashed potatoes with gravy is still great! I was also a Suzy-Q junkie in high school. Nothing with sugar as the first ingredient is allowed to be sold in NJ schools anymore.Posted 3 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

I have to admit my favorite school lunches were pizza and fish sticks.
Joan I think that most schools have banned any food with sugar as the first ingredient.
As for you Spammers out there, I have eaten my share as a child but now you could not pay me enough to get me to eat it.

I just saw this thread. I always brought my lunches from kindergarden on up to eighth grade. It wasn't till I went to high school that I ate the cafeteria food. I do recall in grade school that we had a snack bar and I would go and buy either a hot dog or an eskimo pie on the days that I got my weekly $1 allowance.
