Tuesday Morning Cafe

(51 posts)
  1. Good morning! There's hot coffee brewing, the smell wafting through the cafe. Calico kitties (it's Calico week, right?) are ready to take orders and offer heads to scritch.

Lots of num yummies from the CATerers :-) today: scrambled egg casserole, English muffins with jam, belgian waffles with real maple syrup, and an assortment of cold cereals and juices await....

  2. Hmmmm peeks in for a moment, busy as can be tonight with little chance of breathing....hope that all are safe, sound, and will be able to sleep well...see everyone later today....

  3. Morning, Siobhan and Deb, gosh, I just went off to feed the kitties supper, wash the dishes and write an email and I get back to find people are up and the morning cafe's open already! (Maybe I took a little longer than I intended, lol...)

Hope both of you two are feeling good this morning. Deb, I can see you're busy so have a great rest of shift/day if I'm gone by the time you get back.

Siobhan, I shall have some of those belgian waffles with real maple syrup, please, seeing as all those calories are virtual!

  4. Tee hee, they've left me all alone with the Belgian waffles, nom, nom, nom.

Posted 2 years ago by jcat #

  5. *Looks up guiltily, crumbs all over chin and maple syrup smears on blouse.* Nope, still no one here. *Eyes return to plate, stacked high with waffles and steam wafting gently skywards. The heap of waffles set out for all on the buffet is visibly dwindling....*

Agency kitties' eyes are widening but they are much too polite to say anything...

  6. Sneaks in an takes a waffle from jcat...

    Morning!!! Evening jcat :)
Deb, try not to work so hard.
Siobhan, how is your foot doing by the way?

Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

  7. Morning, CM, my, you're good at that sneaking in... Have a waffle... Oh, you have one. Well, have some more and save me from myself.... I hope you finally got some rest last night. How is poor wee Abbie's cold? I am hoping Maddie hasn't woken up with it :(

Siobhan, yes, how is your foot? I should have asked but my mind was full of waffles... (greed, pure greed...)

  8. Abbie seems to be okay with the cold..she didn't sleep at all yesterday and last night she didn't want to sleep either. So I had her sleep in her car seat so she was a bit propped up and gave her some tylenol to help with some aches. She finally fell asleep at midnight. Maddie woke up crying and coughing and sniffing at 2:30am so both Wayne and I were in her room and I gave her some Motrin for her aches and pains. I think she will be sick when she wakes up today. Poor babies.

  9. Oh, CM, poor little things. Bad enough being sick when you're a grown-up and know what's happening. (Although there is nothing quite like having Mum around when you're feeling grotty.) You and Wayne must both be exhausted.

  10. Yep we are...If Maddie had not woken up. I would have slept from 12-4am(when Abbie woke up for a feeding) then 4:30-7 but oh well. I still had some sleep. I just feel bad for my girls.
How are you this Wednesday morning in NZ :)

  11. Hi Sio, Deb, Jcat & CM!
I would love to snuggle with a little callie, since it's calico week!
Question that I've been meaning to ask: Has anyone ever had olive oil separate? Initially I thought it may have frozen, because it was in a really cold and drafty part of the kitchen, near the floor. However, it's still separated; looks like white crystals settled at the bottom. I've been using it anyway, but I wonder if I shook it up it would re-mix or perhaps it went bad, which I've never heard of.

  12. I'm fine, CM, a few hiccups over work, so today was a bit stressful, but we're getting them sorted out. It was pelting down with rain here a minute ago but it seems to have stopped just as suddenly. I am on my way to bed in slow motion, lol...

  13. Morning, Joan! I've had olive oil do that too, it is because it's too cold. I don't remember whether mine went back to normal or not when it warmed up but I think I just kept on using it, too.

I know that olive oil does go stale (which is why, in an ideal world, we should all drink it from the olive trees down the road, lol) but I don't think it actually goes bad.... someone else might know more...

  14. Hi Joan! I have never had olive oil do that. I guess it could.
Sorry work was a pain jcat, that's never good. :( I have to tell you, for Easter we are going to W. Virginia for the weekend and I plan to take one of those books you sent me and read!!! It's like if I have a free minute now, I use it to sleep or shower :) Since we will be with family, they will watch the girls and I can read and nap!! i am so excited. lol

Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

  15. Joan, I just looked up the "Olive Oil Encyclopedia" (the things you can find on line, tee hee):

"Olive oil can be put into the refrigerator or freezer without harm, which will greatly extend its shelf life. Waxes in the oil may crystallize out into needles or a slurry when the oil is chilled. Warming the oil back to room temperature will re-liquefy it."

Yay, CM, you will be getting some real r'n'r, rest and reading, brilliant. Hope that whichever one you take keeps you page-turning! I have heard that West Virginia is absolutely beautiful, but I guess it might still be a bit snowy and cold outside for sightseeing...

  16. West Virginia is beautiful. It should be not too bad since Spring will be here, maybe a bit chilly in the 50's or 60's but I am hoping only that and no snow!

  17. be back,..I am going to catch a shower before the girls wake up totally and my day is chaos.
jcat if you leave,..I bid you a good night if I miss you :)

Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

  18. Thank you CM, you have a lovely day too, despite the chaos!

I'm off to bed. Have a great day, all!

  19. Nighty-night, Jcat.
Thanks for the olive oil advice! I use it quite often but not so much when the house was in such dissaray. It's slowly coming back together and there's not as much dust every time they show up. It's such a pain to make a good home cooked dinner when I have to wipe down the kitchen first. We've had way too much take out food and it sure gets expensive.
CM, your Easter weekend trip sounds great! West Va is beautiful; we cruised thru parts many years ago. Some of the mountain views are breathtaking.

  20. Morning/Evening to Sio, JCat, CM and Joan! Sure sounds like your household is at full-germ staff, CM!!!! Hope you all feel better soon! With yesterday's sun, some of the snow melted, but not enough! Looks to be a dreary day today and supposed to turn colder! Spring? Where? Certainly not here! Hope everyone has a good day:))

  21. Hi KH! The weather showed a lot of WI getting rain today, but it looks like a cold rain. To the northern part of the state, it looked like a band of pink (ice - lovely, just lovely), then snow north of that. Are you up thataway? Either way, stay warm!
Some of my spring stuff is starting to poke thru, however, gutters are (allegibly) going up today so I'm sure they will get stomped on. Hoping the plants are hearty enough to come back; that early spring stuff is pretty tough. Maybe they have gotten enough vibes from us and Leela to become fighters against those who stomp on us!

Posted 2 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  22. Joan, we have a wind advisory out for today and rain/snow mix....now it is 35, but when it gets colder, we will have ice, too, I'm sure!! Hip Hip Hooray! When the roofers put our new roof on last summer, they threw the old shingles right on top of 2 of our bushes...ruined them (plus dropping the satellite dish off the roof!!) That was a nightmare! Yes, you and Leela stand your ground and don't let them get away with stuff like that!!!

  23. A quick pop in to say hi! Sorry to hear some of you are still in such cold weather! My sore throat is still bad! Will fill my water bottle again with asprin/salt gargle, and be spitting in bushes all day! oh well, will try to check in later.... I need to read back threads to catch up with everyone!

Posted 2 years ago by AV #

  24. Hi AV! Have you tried apple juice? Seems like you've had that stubborn sore throat for a while now. I hope you shake it soon.

Posted 2 years ago by JoanfromNewJersey #

  25. Hi Katt, and AV.
Maddie is up and she seems to be okay, no cold yet. I think it might be a lets stay in our jammies today and cuddle. It's cold and rainy. She is wearing her jammies and a tutu. At least I got a shower in and got dressed. Now I have to do some laundry today.
Joan, when are they going to be done with your house. I would be throwing a party when they are done :)

Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

  26. AV, seems like you have had that sore throat for too long....I am wondering if antibiotics aren't in order. It's a shame you had to get it right before vacation! But, I bet you aren't letting it slow you down much...you'll probably crash when you get home! Yes, CM....isn't this midwest weather just the pits??!!!

Posted 2 years ago by katthays #

  27. I love the change of seasons but when it's too much cold/rain/snow then I wonder why I am here ..lol

Posted 2 years ago by cricketsmama #

  28. I don't really care about the seasons seeing how my ideal weather would be hot and sunny every single day :))))) Wahoo! Hope little Maddie can keep fighting off that darn cold. There seems to be alot of that going around here....the barfing with the respiratory thing....ugh....so far, so good for us staying well. I even think twice about going shopping and exposing myself to all those germs...lol.

  29. Good Morning CM, Kathhays, Joan, AV, Jcat, Azdeb and Siobhan. I'm hoping everybody is feeling ok today. Our weather is screwy too. It's been in the 80s for days now, but now it's going to get cold and rainy starting tomorrow. No wonder my ears always ache.

Before I go, last night Rocky was sitting on my lap. He usually has his tail curled around him but was sort of flicking it back and forth last night and then I found out why. To tease Huddy!!! It was the funniest thing. Rocky was sitting there purring and Huddy was on his hind legs attacking Rocky's tail. Rocky's a sly one :)

Posted 2 years ago by HuddysMama #

  30. Hi HM! awww I am so happy that Rocky is fitting right in. He has a happy loving home and seems to be loving it.

I used to live in California Katt and although the weather was nice most of the time, I really missed the change in seasons. I moved back here in 1992
