Opened the front door for Cato this morning and he ran face to face into a domestic black rabbit. He sat there for several minutes (as did the rabbit) and contemplated his options. I thought sure he would attack and eat it, but instead the rabbit wanted to put its nose right up to his. When it did this, he backed away (the rabbit is about the same size as he is). The instinct to kill must leave them after age 4 as he used to kill everything that wasn't a kitty in the past (this was before we moved to town). The rabbit hopped right up on the step next to him and he jumped up on the trellis and hit the roof flying (that's Cato not the rabbit). The rabbit did not like the look of me with my camera and took off as well

You never know what's going to be outside that door when you open it! Since I've moved to the mountains, I can't say as I've had a domestic bunny, but so far I've had deer, a groundhog, a red fox, a raccoon, a greyhound (escaped from the vet here in town, a blue heeler, and a baby opossum.
Good thing that bunny wasn't a baby. Then Cato might not have been so friendly!

Whose bunny? Did it get home okay? Somebody's pet bunny ran across the road in front of me and straight under the tires of an oncoming caddy the other day. Poor little thing.

I made the mistake feeding two ducks one morning, and now they are there right outside my door every mornng, with a friend of theirs. Bob met them the first day when he was going to run out and stopped right away. He sort of "Ducked" (ho!) and sat and watched them and sniffed at the air. One is a little bigger than him, but the other has got to be twice his size. Anyway, every morning now, I open the door to give them a bit of bread and Bobsky sits in my arms watching. It's the only time I can hold him for minutes - he wants to watch the ducks, but has no desire to get close to them!

Well, Cato contends with opossum (he seems to sit around with them a lot), a skunk, he rolls on his back and asks this little buddy to take a sniff of his claws :) -- the skunk takes off, and several raccoon -- but apparently not a rabbit.
About that duck, I have a horse (we compete in dressage) and he's a sensitive guy and cannot take ducks. He dumped me one day when a pinto horse and a duck came by walking side-by-side -- he couldn't take the friendship I guess (he can't handle loud-colored horses either). No ducks for Teddy :)
