I love both and both are close!! However if I could choose a specific spot it would be the beaches of St.Thomas in the Carribean!! My very favorite spot!!!
WWM, I grew up in central Illinois (small towns) we didn't even have a highway overpasses.
We sort of have a beach here. We have the sand part but I think something is lacking......

LOL.....(WWM thinking her desert sand is a beach!!!)....there are NO TUMBLEWEEDS on the beach!.....
2B, I love St. Thomas too!.... and they have mountains as well as the beach!.....still, for peace and quiet, the Blue Ridge Mts. call me..... other than that, the Highlands of Scotland in the summer is georgous!... actually reminds me a lot of NC.....although I know the winters can be brutal there.....but those mountains and lakes around Inverness are breath taking!!!
It would be a hard choice for me, too. I love both - I think it's because both are nature at it's best.
Most every place has it's allure, but beaches and mountains are special.

The mountains are beautiful but I am scared to death of heights and I seem to have a problem with my equilbrium (SP?) so I always feel like I am floating and falling...strange I know. So I prefer the beach... but it really doesn't matter as long as my fur babies could go!!
**envisions kitties lounging in little chairs with sunglasses on and a long straw leading to a giant catnip drink...pure bliss**

This is Abby in the mountains with me, looking out the window at the bird feeder. Her favorite napping spot is on the back of the couch by the window, so I hung bird feeder right outside, and every day, there's at least 8-10 birds fighting over the feeder at all times! She's in heaven!.....
It is 2B! We are just 30 min. North of Ashville. I believe Waynesville is about 30 min. due west of Ashville......I think we're probably about an hour apart!!!!! Do you ever go up there? I'm going up there two long weekends in May - from 4/30 to 5/3, and then again from 5/21 to 5/24. That's why I hope the Orlando meet falls in the middle of May!.... and then, this summer if everything works out, we want to be up there as much as possible! I'd love to meet you in Ashville for lunch, it's such a great town!
I was up there 2 or 3 years ago! I remember going thru Ashville. Just about every town up there is charming as can be! I hope to go back maybe next year! This year the Orlando trip will be all we can afford! My fathers Birthday is 5/5 so I will be in Central Florida something around that date..
WWM...guess you could go surf the sands of Monahans! My husband was born in Pecos and grew up there. As kids they would go to Monahans and surf in the sand dunes!
To this day, he still thinks West Texas is as close to heaven as you can get!

Beaches! Been to the Mtns in another life but not with my soulmate. Mtns to me was a camp with no running water, only access was a raft up the lake at 2:00 am with 3 little girls, a potty chair, etc. I absolutely hated that place! And the June fly season. Sorry group. It is the beaches for me! There's nothing like driving down A1A in Florida in your old convt. with the ocean on the left for miles and miles and then an ocassional 20 or 30 freaking hi rises called condos. I think sometimes people stay in them but I am not quite sure! There's a lot boarded up too! Don't get me going! *deep breath* ahhhhhh. The birds down here are spectacular! And the fish camps.... and the outdoor concerts, and, and, ......

I sure wish that I had known before that beaches don't have tumbleweeds :-(
*continues to pick burrs out of butt*
Well, we're off to Monahans - Hang Ten!!!

ILMC, my best friend in college was from Pecos. Did your husband know any of the Eisenwine's?
Posted 3 years ago by WillowandWindismom #
WWM..I will ask him when he gets home from work and let you know. He probably does. He is always talking about people from his Pecos days!!

Where exactly is Pecos? is it a small town?.... I guess part of what I find so appealing about Burnsville (the town in NC) is that it's a population of about 2500. Reminds me of Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show..... people rock on porches, and the barber shop is the "hang out"!.....I can see how a small town in Texas could be heaven too!....*sighs* happily....
Every one knows that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.I have been to the top of Pike's Peak and the depths of Carlsbad Caverns.Beauty is where you find it

As you said Ron, it is. I prefer the beach. I am happiest and most mellow by the ocean. There is something I can't explain about how I feel walking the beach. I cry when I leave. I have not been there for alot of years and I miss it. I favored Rehoboth Beach in my later years and have wonderful memories of my time spent there. Kay prefers the moutains, the quiet lakes and trees. We had the opportunity to travel to New England and spent time on Lake Champlain, which I will admit was wonderful and have many memories of that wonderful vacation. Still a beach girl!

I remember the time I took Cindy to Disney Land and I gave her the window seat so she could see out .I kidded her that she was like a dog hanging her head out of the window, [lol] but the cloud formations at that height was like a farie land and was very beautful and she enjoyed it in spite of the fact that she was afraid of heights.

I love your story of that Ron, only a man who was so in love with his woman could have given her a trip of a lifetime and knew that although she was afraid of heights would have enjoyed the beauty of it all. thanks for sharing.

It may seem funny that she got on a plane that went thousands of feet up in the air but refused to get on the sub that was only a few feet below the surface of the water
Posted 3 years ago by Renee in Arkansas #
Sometimes we are more afraid of things that make no sense to others. I too have a fear of heights and don't fly, but the sub would have terrifed me more as it seems to have scared her. Can't explain it.

...no wait... I can totally relate to that Ron!.... I can't even be under water for 5 seconds before I become closterphobic (sp?) but.... I have riden in a small (2 seater) plane that my son took me up in when he first got his pilot's license......we actually took off on a runway over water (I closed my eyes!)..... but we up, up, up, and I really trusted my Son..... it was exhilirating!.......
It was also interesting on the way back when we flew through the thunder storm and all the lightning . It was beautful too but she kelpt looking out the window and commenting about the gremling on the wing like in the twilite zone movie

The second time we went was just as entertaining ,we was on the eighth floor of the hotel when the quake hit. It really scared me because when the bed started shaking ,I thought that Cindy was haveing one of her reactions only to find out that she had got up a few minutes earlier to get ready for the park
