Is your cat a messy eater?

  1. Ringo is an incredibly messy eater! He likes to play with his food. He tosses his raw meat in the air and bats it around the kitchen. Cat biscuits are constantly underfoot - he has a feeding mat but nothing stays in his bowl. I thought Dara was bad - she also likes to drag food out of her bowl onto the mat - but at least she is not throwing it in the air!

I think I will have to feed Ringo in a box!
Anyone else have messy eaters? And how do you cope?

  2. LOL, just sweep up the mess afterwards, thought about putting a bib on a couple of mine but don't think that would go over well.

  3. Messy but cute. He'll grow out of it. Just remembering a wee girl who used to toss her food around too, mainly out the window. Wonder who that was KK. :-)

  4. It was a huge surprise to me to find that Leela is a very neat eater for the most part. For the better part of the last 17 years, the boys were total slobs; I called them "Messy Marvins"! I just dealt with it, and cleaned up after their royal heinies!

  5. My Windi is such a messy eater! She has decided not to eat food out of her dish any longer. Instead, she reaches into her dis with her paw, extracts a bit of food, places it on the floor to eat it. Repeat as necessary.

  7. Jiggs did that too WWM! I figured it was because Shaddo hogged the bowl of crunches. At suppertime, Shaddo would start his dinner, then seemed certain Jiggs' was better so he would bully his way to Jiggs' plate. So Jiggs would go and eat from Shaddo's plate, except when Shaddo was blocking it. Needless to say, this became a problem when one of them had meds in his food. It's funny, Jiggs was so much bigger than Shaddo, but was his subordinate his whole life, despite an occasional swipe or two!

  8. Joan, it wouldn't be so bad if Windi only did that with food in her bowl. But she has always had a spoonful of my yogurt in the mornings and I would just lay the spoon down for her. Lately she's even been dipping her paw into the yogurt so I had to stop giving it to her that way.

Bless her heart, but Windi definitely rides the short bus.

  9. Charlie roots in his bowl like a pig, pushing kibble out as he is snarfing up pieces of kibble.

  10. You know, there's just something about the word "snarf" that always makes me laugh! It's so descriptive!

  16. I used to clean up when the boys scattered food everywhere around the bowl. Now I started feeding them less (they're on a diet after the 2 bags of Meow Mix) so any morsel of food that's on the floor gets eaten as soon as they see it!

I'm so happy to have finally found a food they like, by the way! They now have Hill's Science Diet Light dry food to munch on and every night they get Hills SD Indoor seafood flavored wet food.
I was afraid the only wet food Bobby would eat was Nutro kitten food but he finally agreed to try the SD stuff. He only likes that one kind!
Last night was his first night in quite a while that he was quiet all night and didn't have to sleep in the bathroom. It was nice :)

  17. Yay Bobby! My girls aren't messy at all. They are the first cats I have ever had that weren't messy. They do sometimes shove their bowls across the kitchen floor if I come home late to let me know they are angry they didn't get fed on time.

  18. Mostly it's just Mi who's messy. I think because he was so sick and underweight as a kitten, he tends to eat too much now. Maybe one day I'll film him eating his wet food. It's a sight to been seen! So he won't eat Bobby's I feed him his half a can in the bathroom and Bobby his quarter of a can where their dry food is. Mi will suck up his and run out of the bathroom to get Bobby's. If Bobby is still there eating (he's a slow eater), he will just move aside and let Mi eat his food. It used to be he'd eat about half of his food, run out and eat Bobby's and then run back and finish his own! I now stop him before he gets to Bobby's bowl and make sure Bobby finishes what he wants to eat and then Mi gets to clean the bowl.

  19. That is a GREAT idea! Wilma does the same thing with Betty's food. Maybe if I fed them in different rooms that would solve that. Betty is such a pushover she let's Wilma eat her food and walks away.

  20. It's the funniest thing to watch, isn't it?
Mi gets so excited about his dinner, he starts purring as soon as he sees the can and purrs the whole time he eats.
