Hi all, I posted the following under "Purrs", but hope no one minds if I post it here too:
Hi All,
Need some advise. My very, loving, but disabled vet hubby is having a problem with the Veterans Administration in two areas: first, he is only classified right now as 10% disabled, but he has neurological deterioration(sp?)and so is loosing his balance system and falls all the time. He applied to the VA for an increase in disability (right now only gets $100 mo. from the VA, about 900 from S.S.disability)and the VA has denied his increase request. This is on top of the fact that they are taking $8.00 per prescription, and he takes 20 meds a day, out of his disability check.
Does anyone from the TDK family know of anyone he can contact to help him fight to get an increase? We are at our wits end, especially since they have for the last 2 months held his VA check, without any notice and have given no specific reason for it either. We are in the Richmond,VA area so if anyone has any connnections whatsoever all help and advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kathy & David

Hi, Kathy,
Have you already filed an appeal? There's an official appeals process. If you can, get your federal Congresscritter (representatives are usually easier to engage than senators) on board--they have a LOT of clout. Vets can also (since this summer) hire attorneys to assist them.

HI Kathy,
I was going to suggest just what Ann F did--check with your local State Representative. Or is there a local VA Administration office in Richmond who would be willing to help mediate your case?
Of course, you can always resort to an attorney. God bless you,David, and all our vets! I sincerely hope you get this worked out.Posted 2 years ago by MaxandCali'sMom #

Ditto from me, too.
"Appeal" was the 1st thing that popped into my mind.
Will send you positive energy that things start working in your hubbys favor - and soon.Posted 2 years ago by artistabobbi TX 1/17 #

Kathy, my husband is a vet and is a member of the DAV--Disabled American Veterans. The DAV advocates for disabled veterans and can help your husband pursue his claim for an increase in his disability rating. The website for this organization is www.dav.org
Here is the specific page on the website that explains the services provided by the DAV's National Service Office: http://www.dav.org/veterans/claim_representation.html
Tell your husband good luck from me and by husband for a better result on appeal. (Remember, an appeal has to be filed within certain time limits so don't wait to contact the DAV!)

Thank you all for all the advise. David says that he has contacted those he could here on the state level, and that his next step is to contact someone on the federal level. He says that he filed his appeal the same day he got the denial and hasn't heard anything since. So it's now onto higher authority.
Again, thank you all,
