http://www.ottawa.ca/residents/health/living/nutrition/factsheets/caffeine_en.pdf
GD, I found this site helpful in understanding caffine and how much different products contain.... even decaf coffee & tea have a little.... interesting to note, also very little in coco mix and in chocolate pudding (each less than 10 mg)..... because there is so very little in these products, you can probably eat a chco pudding or have a cup of coco mix, and be ok.....read your lables carefully! I know when I was recovering from my stomach things, the hosptial gave me chocolate pudding, the nurse told me it had very little caffine, and I found it satisfying!

You should just try it, GD. You never know unless you try. How long did they tell you to stay on the caffeine free, ulcer diet?

To bring you up to date on Mothering Sunday. Originally Mothering Sunday was the one day in the year when everyone returned to their Mother Church, rather than attending their local church. It was when people went to the cathedral or abbey church to which their local church was attached. It was also know as refreshment Sunday, and was a day when you could relax the fasting happening in lent and refresh yourself for the second half of lent. Mothering Sunday is always the 4th Sunday in lent.
Then in the 18th/19th centuries youngsters (particularly girls) who were "in service" were allowed to go home for the day to visit their mothers and they were often allowed to take a simnel cake with them - baked in the kitchen of the big house in which they were in service. Simnel cake is now more often eaten at Easter, but it used to be the traditional cake for Mothering Sunday.
Because Mothers' Day was started in the US fairly recently lots of people in the UK now refer to Mothering Sunday as Mothers' Day. It's not. Mothering Sunday has been going on in the UK for hundreds of years.Posted 3 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

We also celebrate Mothering Sunday in our church. We have quite a few in the congregation from England. Beryl laughed and said she made sure to call her Mum and have a good chat with her. I home that those in the UK, as your day draws to an end enjoyed a wonderful day!

I had to take them back to the Sanctuary on Tuesday for their second set of injections and to get their stitches removed. Catching them took about 20 minutes and was extremely stressful for all three of us. By the time we got to the Sanctuary they were sitting quietly on top of each other and submitted to the needle without a sound. They had already removed their own stitches by the time we got there.
Once I brought them back home I decided to let them have the run of the house, as I won't need to catch them again for the foreseeable future. I put their food bowls into the kitchen and their litter trays beside the back door and then let them out of the catbasket. Garbo shot straight behind the boiler in the kitchen and Hepburn just disappeared - I didn't see where she went. After an hour or so they came back into the lounge, but they still disappear much of the time. I really don't know where they go. I spent half of Saturday trying to find their hiding place (I had terrified them again by using the vacuum cleaner, not realising that they were close by), but I couldn't find them.
Anyway, the lounge now smells like a room again and not like a litter tray. The cats wander about the house quite confidently, until the "bump into" a human and then they run and hide.Posted 3 years ago by Pollys_Mum_in_UK_2605 #

Sounds like they are coming right along! Sorry they are such "scaredy cats". It is also traumatic for me when I have to catch my two to take them in for their shots. I sometimes think it is more traumatic for me then them!

They will take treats from my fingers, as long as I am lying on the floor and I don't look at them. Hepburn will let me stroke her while she is eating and sometimes Garbo just NEEDS a stroke so much that she will come up and headbonk my hand. But most of the time they stay away from contact.

LOL PM!... *they had removed their own stiches*.....
My Abby was a ferral kitten (born in the wild)... and it took a long time for her to trust and "come out of her shell".... to this day, it's really only me she has bonded with, but 4 yrs later - she's become a lap cat (but only for me)... she still usually hides when anyone strange comes over, and will only "tollerate" Hubbs or daughters presence if I am in the same room (or in Hubbs case, in the same bed at night!)....sounds like the "divas" are at least becoming used to their "home", and I bet will bond with you nicely!.... whomever they realize is the source of their care and love (you!).... hang in there, because these type of cats can become the most loyal friends ever!
...you snuck that post in while I was typing - see, they DO need affection, and are beginning to realize YOU are that source!..... you have made good progress!!!!
-
AV, I second that! That is exactly the behavior my girls give as well. Really they only "tolerate" my sister and no one else. They are total "mama's girls". They are really 'fraidy cats! But boy are they loyal to me and love ME. Does anyone else matter then???? LOL

Looking back to the beginning of this thread ........
To answer "What had the Irish won?" They won the Triple Crown, the 6 Nations Championship and best of all after last doing it in 1948 The Grand Slam. And yes, that's rugby. The 6 Nations are England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France and Italy. England finished second despite playing abysmally in some of their games, but Ireland finally did it. It was a really tight and thrilling match, literally decided on the last kick of the game. The last kick was a Welsh penalty attempt. If Stephen Jones had landed the penalty Wales would have won, luckily my screams at the tele must have worked and he missed........

Hi, all, just popping in. GD I used to eat quite a lot of carob stuff years ago when I was flatting with some ultra-healthy flatmates and eating at vege/wholefood restaurants; it's not as good as chocolate but if you can't have ANY chocolate, then it's a WHOLE lot better than nothing. Carob cake, carob truffles, quite nommy! I would try to get 'the good stuff' from healthfood stores.
And I was going to ask if you're allowed decaff coffee? Try to get the stuff that's decaffeinated by water (probably most of it these days), chemically decaffeinated coffee is not good for you. I also used to drink a lot of hot fruit drinks (hot blackcurrant, hot lemon, honey and ginger) when I wasn't drinking coffee as I hate herbal teas (sorry, folks) and it satisfied the need for a soothing hot mug in my hand! But not sure how acid-y that fruit is...

Carob truffles? Carob cake? Now that would be interesting!

I agree, if it has the calories, it better be worth it! I had a stab at carob when I had ulcers and carob and I didn't become fast friends!
