2B'S SON NEED HELP WITH ABANDONED KITTENS

  1. I have 4 abandoned baby kittens I found at work. I have had them for a week and have been feeding them formula and some watered-down milk (when I run out of the kitten formula). They have been ok for the most part the past week but I haven’t been able to get them to stop crying. One of them has gotten diarrhea and is crying the most out of the 4. I’m in a little over my head, and I need guidance on how to help them quiet down and adjust to not having a mom.
They are about 3-4 weeks old, their eyes are open but haven’t gotten their permanent coloring yet, and they just got their teeth. They are in exploring mode, and they occasionally purr, although they usually cry while purring. Help, anyone?

  2. Hi Robert, are you feeding them KMR(kitten milk replacement)? I don't remember how old the kittens are but they might not be getting enough to eat. It's hard keeping up with them I know,I only hand raised two of them and they kept me busy. If at all possible please don't give them cows milk because they can't digest it and will get digestive upsets such as diarrhea. Is there any way you can take them to the vet in the morning,or at least the one who is crying the most? The vet will be able to tell how old they are and give you better feeding instructions. Thanks for rescuing these babies.

  3. The only other advice I can offer is if they have their teeth try offering them a bit of kitten food. Wet food mixed with formula, or dry food soaked in formula or either by itself. My bottle kitten had diarrhea until he started eating kitten food, it really helped regulate his little tummy.

    Good luck :)

  4. The 3 week old kitten I found also didn't stop having diarrhea until after she was eating kitten food and off the formula. However, they might also have worms or other problems and if you can, take them to see a vet.

  5. Wet kitten food mixed with KMR or Just Born kitten formula.. (No cow's milk).
Babies this tiny need lots of feedings...every few hours.
Put them in a nice warm box with a stuffed animal to snuggle with. Sometimes a ticking clock will sooth kittens.
    Good luck. :)

  6. Cow's milk is not good at all for kittens. They can't digest it and it makes their little tummies hurt.

You could try mixing up regular baby food* with kitten formula so it will go through the nipple. That would give them more nutrituion and get them ready for real food. ( *for human babies - buy chicken or turkey that's just meat and water, no spices, no vegetables.)

If you go to a PetCo or PetSmart you can buy Kitten Replacement Milk in a big can. With four mouths to feed, that's probably the least expensive way to go.

  10. Hi Robert and welcomed to TDK. You are obviously a lot like your mom, very loving, kind and giving, taking in them 4 abandoned babies. Good luck with them and thank you very much for caring for them. Hope you stay around. Can you get pictures of the babies for us? We would love to see them. Have you named them yet?

Here's the thread from Udgirl where she talks about buying a snuggiecat. She says it's a momma cat with a heart beat and a place to put warmers in it. Sounds great to me! I don't have her email, she's fairly new here, but you might start a thread like "UDgirl - where did you get a snuggie cat?" and maybe she'll be on soon and will post.

    Good luck!

  21. PetSmart should have them, thought that is what I saw about a week ago, or try entirelypets.com if they have it, the price should be a bit cheaper.

  22. Robert, if spare time is the major problem for you, I may be able to help. I'm in Laguna Beach and I'm home most of the time. I could take the babies for a week or two until they are weaned and ready for their furever homes. I can't keep them and I doubt I can pass anymore rescue kitties off an any of my neighbours, family or friends. But I can help you by fostering a pair, (or even all of them), as long as I don't have to keep them. If they need vet care, the TDK fund may be able to help.
