I am not one to ask for help so this is difficult for me. I would like to ask for your prayers. I have been having problems with my left leg that have been getting increasingly worse over the past week. To bring you up to date, I fell off a ladder hanging curtains last March and broke my neck and back. While being scanned after the accident I was also found to have what is called a Chiari Malformation. In a nutshell a Chiaria Malformation is a herniation of the brain thru my skull (part of my brain is just hanging out and is NOT protected by bone). The CM is a rare birth defect that was NOT a result of the fall but did get aggrevated by it. Some people with a CM go their whole life with no effects, others have to have brain surgery and can become paralyzed. Due to the high level of the break in my neck they watched my CM VERY CLOSELY. Any swelling would cause the brain to possibly get pinched off causing all sorts of problems. I have started having tingling in my left leg as well as my foot "clawing" up into a tight ball. I can't stop my foot from doing this. My foot is doing this with increasing frequency and the skin is being rubbed off my toes and foot to the point it is raw and bleeding. I have also had many more headaches which have been quite intense. One of my Physical Therapist employee's did neurological testing on me and found that some of my common reflexes were "missing" which is NOT a good sign. I also have been unsteady on my feet and getting all twisted over my own two feet. I called my neurologist who has followed me for 8 years and she was very disturbed by the sudden onset of these symptoms. They have gotten me in for an appointment on Monday. I re-read parts of my book on the CM and this is a sign of a change in the CM. I am just so scared that I might have to have brain surgery or spinal surgery and that is just not a road I want to go down. Could you please say a prayer for me and keep me in your thoughts as I try to figure out what is going on? Thanks to my wonderful friends/family here on TDK, you guys are truly the bestest anywhere!

Good God Mollycat, what a trauma to have gone through, no wonder you're scared now. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry until you know what there is to worry about - hopefully they'll sort you out on Monday, and there'll be some medication that will help. If you DO have to go down the surgery route, then you know we're all here, rooting for you. {{{hugs}}} and prayers.

hi mollycat !! yes i know a nurse who has chairia mailformation. she is doing well aand had the surgery. She was off work for 6 weeks and came back , it does seem to still bother her once in awhile. i send you many prayers and lots of hugs. do you get those headaches? lydia said when she says her prayers with me tonight she will send a purr to heaven for you. betty and wilma allready contacted her on the cat hotline about you, and she was right on the case for you. betty and wilma are contacting the TDK gang about you. they are very cool kitties !!

Molly, I am sending lots of prayers and good thoughts to you. I know it is hard not to be scared. I had extensive spinal surgery almost 3 years ago and all is well. I was concerned and a bit afraid but technology is so advanced these days that so much can be done to ease your pain. Granted, my x-rays look like something out of science fiction (lots of rods, screws, bolts and cages) but it all works. Please don't be too afraid. I will be praying like crazy for you. I do think that good thoughts prayers and a positive outlook help so much. As rainingwolf says...wait until all the info is available. Hugs, healing white light, prayers, thoughts, prayers and purrs are already on the way to you from Wilbur, T-do and me.

Oh Molly, I'm so sorry to hear this! I have hydrocephalus, which is sometimes accompanied by CM, and I know I get scared anytime I get so much as my foot falling asleep.

lydia told me wilma and betty are her very best kitty girl friends and they keep her posted on your every move. they called lydia up worried about you and lydia must of talk to them for a half hour. they said for us to keep a prayer in our hearts for you all the time. betty and wilma purr and heal you as we speak , lydia send purrwaves of healing through the air for you, she said " they look like musical notes and go to molly cats house to heal her" they even called on angel kitties from the rainbow bridge for you, bastian and kizzy and sammie and all the angel kitties.
do you have medication for the muscle spasms in your feet? i am worried about you . please keep us posted on how you are ... (((( MC ))))

I have nothing, the spasms are really bad, especially at night when I try to sleep. I get the worst calve cramps from my foot and toes contracting so hard. I try to undo them and flatten out my foot but it doesn't work. I just hate that my toes are rubbing together and rubbing each other raw! I think Betty and Wilma might come "visit" Lydia for a sleepover cause they don't like meowmy waking them up at night massaging her calve and foot!

Your muscle cramping sounds very painful, MC. Would your MD be willing to prescribe something like a muscle relaxant prior to seeing you Monday? I hope the cramping eases and you are able to sleep. You are in my prayers. All of us will keep watch with you to make sure you are alright! {{{hugs}}}

betty and wilma want to knead your feet and legs to make you feel better. i do think you should call your dr and get a muscle relaxer. have you tried muscle rub like ben gay or a maybe a warm pack or heating pad on your legs? i hope you can get some rest tonight. betty and wilma can sleep over with lydia anytime they want.

Oh, Amy, how painful this must be for you! My doctor has prescribed potassium for leg cramps ~ but I don't know if it would help with your symptoms... you might try eating lots of bananas and/or potatoes for the potassium to see if that might ease your night cramps until your appointment; I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with calf and foot cramps too. The only thing that works for me is to 'walk them off' up and down the hallway.
