  1. Evening jcat :) A swifter is a mop like device that uses a disposable pad (sometimes pads that can be washed) to clean your floors, and they have ones that dust the floors too....use instead of broom and mop...

  2. Hi, Deb, thank you, that sounds like what we call a kitchen mop here, so yes, that would work!

    How are the allergies tonight?

  3. Evening Jcat, I think they are a bit like the Pledge Grab-it that you could buy here. It uses a heavy duty paper with cleaning product impregnated in it that just attaches into holes on the top of a flat rubber head. I have one and it's great for a quick zoom over your floor to keep it clean but not great at cleaning a well used floor. More of a maintenance cleaner.

  4. The allergies aren't too bad tonight, eyes still burn and stuffy head but not too sucky. The swifter reminds me of the European mop heads, rectangles on a mop/broomstick using towels to clean the floors. Just not disposable like the swifters normally are.

  5. Evening Jan, yep they are better for maintenance if you are using the cleaning products they provide. Think using the vinegar/water solution that AV is going to use, it could be used as a cleaner too.

  6. Yep, Deb, I think the European ones are exactly what we have too. I use it in the kitchen and bathroom but didn't think of using it on my wooden floors (mainly because they're always so dusty -- can you tell I don't like vacuuming?)

MS, I was going to try the Pledge grab-it things but then I saw you had to buy a special mop just for them.

Deb, I'm glad to hear the allergies aren't getting you down tonight. I hope the local honey works for you -- I guess it works like a vaccination, seeing as it's made of the local pollens...

Isn't today the day MC goes to the neurologist? We have too many ill TDKers at the moment, it's a little worrying!

  7. I sometimes use white vinegar in place of fabric softener in the washing machine, especially on the towels. Leaves them lovely and soft and you don't get the vinegar odour either. Also the vinegar will give your machine a clean at the same time.

  8. I think I read somewhere that you can use it in the dishwasher as well, instead of the rinse aid, MS. And my dishwasher could certainly use a clean (but those purpose-made dishwasher cleansers are SO expensive!)

I have always used vinegar in handwashing, especially with silks -- a teaspoonful in the last rinse water. I didn't know that about washing machines, I will try it there too. I can see I will have to get one of those ginormous bottles of vinegar...

  9. She does have her appt today with the neurologist. Vinegar would take all the excess fabric softener out of the towels too, too much build-up stops the towels from working as well as they should.

  10. Tee hee, Deb, I don't use fabric softener, I love the smell but if it ain't totally necessary, it's not in my budget. (Then there's more money for the luxuries I REALLY don't need...)

  11. Morning all! Yep today is the BIG DAY! NEUROLOGIST DAY! Whoo hoo! The girls and I whipped up a list of questions and I am ready to go! Hopefully I will get good news but if I don't I will deal with it and do what I have to do. Off to work, hopefully will keep busy, then to the doc at 345. Betty is meowing like crazy here must be wanting to say Hello to all!

  12. When Meegz bought a washing machine earlier in the year it hadn't been used for some time and was crusted with excess washing powder, she brushed off what she could then filled the machine to the top with hot water only and adding 1-2 cups of white vinegar and letting it sit for 30 minutes then put the machine through an entire cycle. This should be done regularly. It certainly cleaned her machine out.

  13. Meowy Monday, Betty, how are you today? Good to hear you sounding so bright and ready for action, MC. We are all pulling for you and will be thinking about you, please let us know as soon as you know anything. {{{Hugs for today}}}

Good tip, MS. My washing machine dates from when Methuselah was a lad...

  14. jcat, look @ this link http://www.vinegartips.com/ and see all the things that vinegar can be used for :) I love the smell of fabric softener too but once I found out it could clog up the dryer lint vent/filter I stopped using it as much...

  15. My doors are all locked, Shadz is asleep in the bean bag and I hear my bed gently calling my name. Time for me to trudge upstairs, read a few pages of my book and then sleep. Goodnight Deb,Jcat and MC. May your day ahead be kind to you.

  16. What a cool site, Deb, thank you, I've seen something I can use already -- didn't know you could use it to give acid-loving plants, like my rhodos and magnolias, a bit of a boost. And the thing I like about it best is that it's safe! I do hate chucking strong chemicals around.

  17. Same to you, MS, may you have sunshine, laughs and love tomorrow... and so may all of us... Sleep well!

  18. G'night Jan, sleep well and wake rested, scritches to HRH in the morn :)

  19. Plain old white distilled vinegar.... and the mix..... about a cup vinegar to a gallon of water.... but you don't have to be exact.... but I will say, the more vinegar, the stronger the smell!

Posted 3 years ago by AV #

  20. Thanks, AV, I'm definitely going to try that!
