  1. I read the breeder's site. This group likes "training" cats but is short on teaching them affectionate interaction with humans, or socialization, which is vital to breeding Siamese.

Jackson was roughly handled and it will take him a while to thaw out completely. At the rate you're going, honey, Jackson is well on his way to becoming the "baby cat" you always wanted!

And by the way, Siamese really are very vocal. Any thought that goes through the head somes out of the mouth. He will stop crying when he starts purring, although my Daisy actually did both for a while.

  2. Yes EMMA..I agree. Last night I went back and re-read the whole site and realized that there were some red flags in there that I didn't catch. ABBIGALEVIOLET...how do I teach Jackson to scratch on the post? I don't have one yet...but I will get one soon. But once I do and place it properly...how do I get Jackson to use it? When I was growing up, we had a blue point male Siamese named Higgins. He was the best cat ever. He was very vocal...always talking to us and letting us know his thoughts on various matters. I am really looking forward to when Jackson stops the constant crying and gets to the more 'conversational' meows! I will continue talking to him...I've already been trained by a fabulous Siamese from my childhood...but I wonder...is it also ok if I talk to him in my normal speaking voice? Do I always have to speak very softly to him in this phase of things? Also...learn me the 'speak' what's IMHO and what is meezers? I've never heard those terms before?

  3. Oh and Abby is beautiful! I've got to find my camera charger so that I can get some pics up, but in the meantime I posted a link to the breeders website where Jackson came from. The woman has pics on the front page of Jackson. He should be on the top row and I think it says male blue point and the price...but there are three pics on there of him.

  4. Meezers, simonizers = Siamese cats
IMHO = in my humble opinion
KSTN281 = meowmy (human female currently owned/loved/motivated by cat of any age)

  5. LOL! The meezers thing is hilarious. I had no idea! Thanks!

  6. KSTN...what a wonderful meowmy you're going to be!!! Looking forward to when your camera is charged up so we can see more picture of handsome Jackson!

  7. KSTN, if you can hold him, try gently putting his paws on the scratcher... it is a natural instinct to scratch, and i would buy one of the "basket weave" kind because they seem to like that kind....

  8. Yeah. And Rotley and Ruggles love my wicker furniture.

Posted 11 months ago by Emma #

  9. And they used to love my cane-backed dining chairs! If he's purring that's great!

  10. Wow! Jackson's made fantastic progress in 24 hours! Well done KST!

Has anyone suggested the beanie baby thing? Sometimes very young cats cry because they're missing their siblings, so a little soft toy to snuggle up with can be very calming.

  11. I think you are coming into your own "meowmy". Your baby loves you and will soon trust you with all his heart. You will catch the kitten slang here quickly. AV will have great advice, she has her Abby who is gorgeous as you can see! I know she knows a lot about Siamese kitties. I have never had a Siamese but hope one day to be owned by one. They are beautiful and seem so graceful. Come to think of it, I always am owned by the down on their luck cats, the special needs cats, cats who need extra TLC. A girl can always wish........

  12. Hope that you can get the scratcher ASAP.... they need to be trained early to their scratching posts!!! I'm very glad that he at least wants to curl up and sleep next to you... that is a BIG step in trust.... cats (meezers especially) are so funny, they want *trust* to be on their terms, but it will take time for them to "gift" you with the pleasure of being a lap cat!!!(4 yrs later,, she has finally "gifted" me with that)... and don't I love it!!

  14. Just wanted to update really quick. I finally got a decent night's sleep last night! The crying persists, but it is less. Also...Jackson is POOPING. I woke up to quite a stink this morning! I will be happy to be able to move his litterbox to somewhere other than my bedroom! Jackson will now sleep next to me and most of the affection that he accepts is when I'm laying down as opposed to sitting on the floor and especially standing up. He is making one royal mess out of his litter...is there anything I can do about that? Suggestions anyone? Also...I went to Petco on my lunch break today and got him a scratching post and some catnip to put on it. Also...I do not have a big enough stuft animal to be like a pretend mommy kitty...but I do have lot's of smaller stuffed animals...and some of them just happened to be under my bed and I've noticed that Jackson likes to play with them...so hopefully those are giving him some comfort.

  15. I don't know how I have missed this thread! KST, you've gotten so much great advice but I did want to say welcome to TDK! Thank goodness you rescued little Jackson from that "breeder".

I don't have anything to offer about the litter, but I'll bet that others will!

  16. I don't know if you want to invest in another litter box, but this top entry litter box has really helped me with one of my messy play with litter kitties:

BTW, you are doing a great job!

  17. Even the regular covered litter box may give you some relief, him a bit of "privacy", and help you move the stinky out of the bedroom a bit at a time. You are doing great! Keep up the good work!

  18. It sounds like things are progressing rather quickly and I am SO pleased for you and Jackson! You have gotten excellent advice and I just know you will and Jackson will be fast friends, sooner than you think :)

  19. Congratulations - it sounds like Jackson is accepting you as his new mommy. Any type of enclosed litter box should help keep the litter where you want it. Just be careful that you don't get one that's too tall for him to get into. You can also put the entire litter box into a bigger cardboard box and cut one side lower. It won't keep him from flinging litter all over, but it will catch it and make it easier to clean up.

Don't just move the litter box from your bedroom to some other room in one day. Now that he's use to the box where it is, he's just as likely to use the same spot as he is to go looking for the box. Either move it just a few feet a day until you get it where you want it OR get a second box and put it where you want it. Then show him the second box. Let him have both boxes until he's using both of them.

Some kitties never become "pick-them-up-and-cuddle-them" kitties. They come sit in your lap on their terms, and sleep on the bed, but don't like to be picked up. It's too soon to tell which way Jackson will be, but it sounds like he's on his way to being a friendly boy.

Some cats don't respond to catnip. Very few kittens respond to it at all; they usually need to mature a bit first. Some cats don't like the upright scratching posts. Mine have both an upright post and one of those corrugated ones that lie flat on the ground. The important thing is that Jackson learns early where he can and can't scratch.

I hope you get batteries for your camera soon - I'm anxious to see the little apple head.

  20. Trust me, you will probably always have a problem with flinging litter. Almost 4 years later my Wilma flings litter. I ask her if she is digging to China?!?! I would also recommend a covered box but might wait til Jackson is full grown so it "fits" him. Other then that I am so excited he is starting to trust you and bond with you. That is fabulous!

  21. How are you and the baby doing today?

  22. OMG...I can see Jacksons picture!

  23. He's beautiful. You've come a very long way in a very short time. Well done. My two beauties are still at the "hiding most of the time" stage, although they are becoming slowly more sociable and will allow themsleves to be stroked occasionally.

  27. Jackson is adorable! The fact that you could get a cute picture of him is a good sign!!! Have a good weekend!

  28. I am so happy that you have a new kitty! Welcome! I'm sure with the good care and love he will trust you soon. I don't have any experience with meezers but I do know that they are "talkers". I am an advocate of Royal Canin's "Baby Cat" dry. It is in very small pieces. My orphaned ferals seem to really like it. As far as scratching posts, my boys Wilbur and T-Do have both the pillar type and the horizontal (cardboard). I only have 2 inside kitties and live in a 2 story house. There are 2 litter boxes upstairs and 2 downstairs. With that many I don't have any worries. They are both covered. Thanks so much for taking this baby. We all try to do our best for the kits. Some of these "breeders" are pretty crafty. You are lucky that he is healthy and ready to be loved. I'm sure you will get wonderful advice and lots of care from this TDK family. They are the best!

  29. A belated welcome to TDK KST!!! I don't get to hang out here as much as I would like anymore, but IMHO, you came to the very best place for kitten advice.

If you click on the picture of my Penny you can see all the kitties who own me.

  30. All fantastic advice here, and so heart-warming to read of your progress with lucky little Jackson. Sounds like he's not used to kind contact from humans, and I always think it must be the worst thing can happen to be suddenly removed from your mother and littermates, and find yourself in a strange, big place with entirely different smells and sounds, alone for the first time in your short life. How are you both doing now?
