Susie, are you one of the three people in the world who actually listens to the pre-flight briefing? I have a feeling you are (or would be, if you haven't flown). In any event, they always say that if the ventilation masks come down and you are next to someone with special needs (disabled or small child), you are supposed to put your own mask on first, THEN help the person next to you who needs it. That's because if they struggle due to fear or lack of comprehension, you'll still be able to help no matter how long it takes.
What I'm trying to say is do not beat yourself up if you wind up having to leave your ferals behind to save yourself. If evil befalls you, then what service can you do? God knows, He understands, and remember, it is He who said "...what you do for the least of these, you do unto Me."
Stay safe so that you can still be there for the ferals--if not the ones where you are now, then God has somewhere else in mind where the kitties need you more. Of this, I'm certain. You get out of there, and let Him guide you to where He wants you to be.
When we all are in Heaven, Susie, I'll surely be able to recognize you right away by the vast array of crowns that adorn you--love the pawprint designs!
